NFT: Ronald Acuña...

M.S. : 3/15/2018 4:38 pm
...have seen several ABs for the #1 minor league baseball player and, if he doesn't start from Day One with the Braves this season, they are out of their f-ing minds.

Perhaps they'll have some rational for starting him in the minors when the Braves break camp, but all I've got to say is:

Make way for baseball's next mega-superstar.

This 20-year does it all.

That is all.
The Braves are starting him in the minors
Jay on the Island : 3/15/2018 4:45 pm : link
Is it the right thing to do? No he is clearly ready now but the Braves need to save a year of control since they are unlikely to compete for a playoff spot this year.

Acuna will be up mid April.

Ozzie Albies and Ronald Acuna are going to be the faces of the franchise as early as this season. This should be the final year of the rebuild for Atlanta.

Didn't take long...
Some rationale?
robbieballs2003 : 3/15/2018 5:11 pm : link
If he is as good as you say he is then it would be asinine to start him in the bigs from day one. Why sacrifice a full year of control for a few weeks or whatever the number is?

This. it sucks because fans want to see him play but it's just not smart.

Agreed it's the same thing that happened with Kris Bryant.
The Yanks are basically doing the same with Torres and Andujar.
robbieballs2003 : 3/15/2018 6:19 pm : link
Obviously it is different but the mindset is the same. They are keeping them in the minors to gain another year or possibly 2. Torres is overcoming an injury from last year so that makes sense. Andujar still needs to get better defensively but they could definitely help this year.

I just picked up Scott Kingery in my fantasy league and Philly is most likely going to do the same with him. He doesn't have a clear path but he will almost definitely be up very soon after he gets his 10+ (games in the minors).
agreed

he has to be the most talented kid his age in all of baseball.
Through 14 Games of Spring Training, Ronald Acuna...

At Bats 36
Runs 5
Hits 15

RBIs 8
SBs 4
AVG .417
OBP .523
OPS 1.217
I haven't been this excited about a Brave rookie since,
GiantFilthy : 3/16/2018 8:18 am : link
I don't know, probably Chipper.

You can NOT start him opening day though. For a rebuilding team that probably won't be competing in the postseason this year it is crucial to get that extra year of control when all you have to do is wait two weeks.

Also, this is seriously Mike Trout level ceiling we are watching.
GiantFilthy : 3/16/2018 8:21 am : link
But Acuna is an even bigger diamond find. Trout slipped past lots of teams but was still a high pick. With Acuna we are talking about a little 100k international signing.

My dynasty fantasy team is very excited about him

At least the Yankees have a legitimate excuse for keeping Torres and Andujar down. The Braves excuse is recent acquisition Preston Tucker is having a good spring.
I don't know if I have ever seen a prospect
Jay on the Island : 3/16/2018 9:25 am : link
have such a meteoric rise in such a short time frame. Less than a year ago he was a guy to keep an eye on as a potential top 100 prospect and now he is the top prospect in the game. What's most impressive is that Acuña's number improved noticeable at each level despite being the youngest at ever stop.

High A .287/.336/.478 243 AB's
AA .326/.374/.520 243 AB's
AAA .344/.393/.548 126 AB's
AFL .325/.414/.639 MVP

ugh

I don't think it's fair to compare him to Trout. He is a legitimate 5 tool player though and at this rate will be among the best players in baseball.
another homer

Quite a few Braves fans are pissed but I agree 100% that it is the right thing to do. Preston Tucker can hold down the fort for 2-3 weeks until Acuna is promoted. There is no sense in wasting a year of service time for 2-3 weeks of this season.

I looked at the schedule
Jay on the Island : 3/23/2018 9:18 pm : link
Acuna should make his debut on April 16th versus the Phillies. Or he could debut in the next series versus the Mets.
