did anyone hire mcadoo or reese yet?

japanhead : 3/16/2018 12:34 am
or ross for that matter? i think most thought that mcadoo might be blackballed after what he showed here, but a number of posters were adamant that reese would have teams beating down his door to hire him. he did contribute key pieces to 2 championship teams, but in a what have you done for me lately league he's whiffed horrifically for at least half a decade.. does anyone see him getting a shake again, or will he go the way of fassel? seems he would've been scooped by now.
With all the bad press

it wouldn’t surprise me to see all of the Giants cast offs take a year off (ala Spags) and try to get back in it next year.
Reese is a good scout, just not a good GM as it turned out.

He will get good job offers and eventually may be a GM again. Hope he learned something about building a football team.

McAdoo will get another position coaching job but it will be a long time before he becomes a coordinator calling his own plays. McCarthy may hire him again.
I'm sure Reese will get

another GM chance based on being part of 2 championship runs, not sure if the Rooney rule applies to GM hires but if it does he could def be on a few teams short list next year. He's a excellent FA evaluator and he makes decent trades. Ross would probably follow with the drafting of OBJ & JPP on his resume

Not sure Mac gets anything more then a position coach job but wouldn't that have to be QB coach since that was his skill set in GB, and how the Manning fiasco was handled I don't know if that will be received well.
Who?

Why hire McAdoo?
trueblueinpw : 3/16/2018 8:28 am : link
He isn’t good at anything. His ruinous seasons as HC NYG showed he’s a zero at Xs and Os and less than zero at pretty much every other aspect of coaching and leadership. I think McAdoo demonstrated himself to be a loathsome arrogant fool without any character or apparent talent. I can’t imagine McAdoo doing anything worthwhile. More so I imagine him finding employment as some kind of bloviating lying shill. You know, the kind of job that requires a deficit of integrity, an ability to shamelessly deny the obvious truth and pays really well.

Pretty sure JR will get another shot in the NFL if he wants one but he may want to take some time off or even try something else entirely. I think he’ll probably find success at whatever he winds up doing.
Reese will definitely resurface as a No. 2 or Head of Scouting
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 3/16/2018 8:29 am : link
But his drafts and inability to get picks to second contracts will be an anchor for a few years. He will get another shot - worse GMs than him already have.
McAdoo is getting an interview next week.

I honestly think everyone in the NFL besides the Giants

Knew McAdoo was in way over his head and completely lost as an HC in every single way. That he was an unmitigated disaster compounded by horrible drafts for a multitude of years. As far as Reese goes IMO how the whole TC and Eli situation played out looks really bad for him.

I don't think you will see either for a couple of years and if they do come back it's going to be in much smaller roles. I think McAdoo ending up at some Div 3 college and Reese retiring is more likely

There were 10 football teams looking to hire him after he got fired

He had to explain to them he didn't know anything about soccer
I think mcadoo

Is likely done in the NFL in any kind of ranking position. I wouldn't be surprised to see him resurface as a position coach. However, he was such an unmitigated disaster as a head coach, I don't see anyone offering him hat opportunity again.

Reese is an interest situation. Obviously, not many GMs can boast two SB rings. However, much of 07 could be attributed to EA and. His policies. After that, Reese allowed positions to deteriorate by with failing to scout properly or all together ignoring the position. He seemed to draft certain positions well, but seemed utterly clueless on others. For example, how often over the past 8 years have we seen the middle of the field wide open for opposing tight ends and slot receivers? Yet he never added much athleticism at linebacker. We all know about the oline struggles, which wasn't so much attributed to Reese ignoring the position as much as it was failure to properly scout an translate to the NFL. Too often, Reese believes he was the smartest person in the room when in reality he only outsmarted himself.

I think when an NFL exec or owner puts that all in perspective, they probably see him more as a position scout or overseeing a group of positions. He simply doesn't have the ability to run a personnel department such as is required by a GM. But, as others have suggested, it wouldn't be the least bit surprising to see him resurface in the NFL as a scout. However, if I was to venture a guess, I'd say his days a GM are done.

If you were an owner
HomerJones45 : 3/16/2018 2:05 pm : link
would you think it was a swell idea to hire Jerry Reese? You know, the guy who piled together 10 years of bad drafts and bamboozled your fellow owners, dopes that they are, into firing nearly everyone at all competent in the organization? Didn't think so.

As for McAdoo, it would take an extraordinarily secure and brave GM, or one who didn't care whether he got fired, to even bring up his name to an owner as a possible hire.

These two are done.

RE: If you were an owner
japanhead : 3/16/2018 3:59 pm : link
10 years of bad drafts is an exaggeration. his 2007 draft was epic: ross, smith, deossie, boss, johnson, bradshaw. 2008 yielded: phillips, thomas, + manningham. not a bad haul, though all 3 had careers shortened by injury. 2009 yielded: nicks + beatty, who also had careers shortened by injury. 2010: yielded: JPP + linval at picks 1 + 2. so it was diminishing returns, esp in the later rounds, and exacerbated by injuries to key guys. but his first 4 drafts all yielded players that contributed significantly to the two SB runs. he also snatched up UDFA victor cruz during this time. so it wasn't all bad in the beginning, even accounting for epic whiffs like clint sintim and ramses barden.

it was 2011 when the drafts really started going downhill. 2011 was prince, austin + jernigan at 1-3, and 2012 it was wilson, randle + hosely at 1-3. ouch. in the drafts over the last 5 drafts (2013-2017), the only contributing players are beckham, collins, shepard, and (presumably) engram + tomlinson. (i am leaving guys like gallman, apple, flowers, and pugh off the list, as i'd say their futures with the team are a coin-flip at this point).

so yea, he definitely got worse over time, but torpedoed starting in 2011.

Another GM job? Just like Coughlin was supposed to get another head coach job?

Coughlin was 70 years old. It was dubious he was going to get another HC job.
