or ross for that matter? i think most thought that mcadoo might be blackballed after what he showed here, but a number of posters were adamant that reese would have teams beating down his door to hire him. he did contribute key pieces to 2 championship teams, but in a what have you done for me lately league he's whiffed horrifically for at least half a decade.. does anyone see him getting a shake again, or will he go the way of fassel? seems he would've been scooped by now.
McAdoo will get another position coaching job but it will be a long time before he becomes a coordinator calling his own plays. McCarthy may hire him again.
Not sure Mac gets anything more then a position coach job but wouldn't that have to be QB coach since that was his skill set in GB, and how the Manning fiasco was handled I don't know if that will be received well.
Pretty sure JR will get another shot in the NFL if he wants one but he may want to take some time off or even try something else entirely. I think he’ll probably find success at whatever he winds up doing.
YIKES!
K'RUUUGGER!
I don't think you will see either for a couple of years and if they do come back it's going to be in much smaller roles. I think McAdoo ending up at some Div 3 college and Reese retiring is more likely
He had to explain to them he didn't know anything about soccer
Reese is an interest situation. Obviously, not many GMs can boast two SB rings. However, much of 07 could be attributed to EA and. His policies. After that, Reese allowed positions to deteriorate by with failing to scout properly or all together ignoring the position. He seemed to draft certain positions well, but seemed utterly clueless on others. For example, how often over the past 8 years have we seen the middle of the field wide open for opposing tight ends and slot receivers? Yet he never added much athleticism at linebacker. We all know about the oline struggles, which wasn't so much attributed to Reese ignoring the position as much as it was failure to properly scout an translate to the NFL. Too often, Reese believes he was the smartest person in the room when in reality he only outsmarted himself.
I think when an NFL exec or owner puts that all in perspective, they probably see him more as a position scout or overseeing a group of positions. He simply doesn't have the ability to run a personnel department such as is required by a GM. But, as others have suggested, it wouldn't be the least bit surprising to see him resurface in the NFL as a scout. However, if I was to venture a guess, I'd say his days a GM are done.
Handly: "Before we begin the interview I just have to say I like what you have done with your hair"
As for McAdoo, it would take an extraordinarily secure and brave GM, or one who didn't care whether he got fired, to even bring up his name to an owner as a possible hire.
These two are done.
it was 2011 when the drafts really started going downhill. 2011 was prince, austin + jernigan at 1-3, and 2012 it was wilson, randle + hosely at 1-3. ouch. in the drafts over the last 5 drafts (2013-2017), the only contributing players are beckham, collins, shepard, and (presumably) engram + tomlinson. (i am leaving guys like gallman, apple, flowers, and pugh off the list, as i'd say their futures with the team are a coin-flip at this point).
so yea, he definitely got worse over time, but torpedoed starting in 2011.

Another GM job? Just like Coughlin was supposed to get another head coach job?

Coughlin was 70 years old. It was dubious he was going to get another HC job.
