NFT: Handle questions....

Joey in VA : 3/16/2018 11:51 am
So I have been Joey in VA forever, never used a dupe and never changed handles. I'm moving to CT this Summer, and I am flummoxed. Do I keep a technically incorrect handle and live a lie or do I change it and people wonder who the mean jerk in CT is who showed up? I should be concerned with work or the economy or space rocks hitting Earth or beach erosion or something really important but right now I am solely focused on this and who the One Man Thrill Ride really is.

I mean I have seen guesses, I have heard some good and some bad theories on who precisely this witty caustic charming wonderful annoying person is. So BBI, two questions lay before you, neither important, neither will bring you joy or satisfaction. But seriously it's the FA period, you are going to hit refresh 834 times today hoping for a rumour or a nugget or a signing. While you do please ponder these two items. I thank you all and may God have mercy on your souls even if I technically don't believe in him.
People move TO Connecticut?

Randy and Joey in CT? That's going to be a tough combo.

Enjoy CT. I lived there for 10 years and got relocated to PA 2 years ago. Miss it. Nice state depending on where you live.

I moved to CT

You might want to change it to Joey in Hell
I actually lived in both CT and VA
pjcas18 : 3/16/2018 11:59 am : link
and if I still lived in VA I'd consider moving to CT. One of the few states I'd pick CT in a state battle, and to be fair I lived in Northern Virginia, Richmond, Charlottesville, and some of the more rural areas I really liked. Northern Virginia is as big a hell hole as I've been to (for a variety of reasons).

As for the handle keep it.

No matter where I move, I'll always be from LI. All these years on BBI and I've lived in Richmond, Charlottesville, Reseda, Long Beach, Pensacola, Yuma, Okinawa, Alabama, Pensacola again, and Richmond again, and I've never had to change. To sum up: I'm better than you all.

I hate a lot of this state but the good parts are fantastic.

My sister is in VA and where she lives in Clarendon where it’s really nice is as expensive as Greenwich. Wouldn’t really want to live anywhere in VA besides right outside DC.
Keep your handle and add your new location to your BBI profile

I say keep it as it is.

My handle is 12 years old now and basically irrelevant, but whatever.. I've already established my shitty identity here over a long period of time. Why change it now?

Maybe I'll put a space between the words so that I stop seeing people refer to me as "arcansel"

My two cents:

You will have a lot more hassle having to continually explain the change compared to the few times you might have to explain where you live. Plus our handles are our BBI names and nobody really cares where any of us live. Keep your original handle because at this point it makes little sense to change it.
You could go the FKA Route
jpennyva : 3/16/2018 2:39 pm : link
But I vote to keep the handle you have now. You're known as that, though you would become known again as Joey in CT but the plus side is, if any newbies want to try to hunt you down, they'd be looking for Joeys in the wrong state. My $0.02.

That's a big part of my decision. I hate this place. The location in CT isn't some great shakes but it's way less expensive, way less crowded and I already found a bomb ass pizza place and butcher shop with amazing food so I can get fat..er? I'm eventually going South to some place coastal for my sinus issues but until the little ones are older they need to be near their family up there.
If you were to use Joey from Virginia...

Heisenberg : 3/16/2018 3:31 pm : link
It was ok. I prefer CT so I moved back. Everybody I knew that lived in that area has just continued moving farther and farther away from NoVa as it continues to spread out.

And yeah, there's plenty of bomb ass pizza here in CT. I didn't realize how easy it was to find a good pizza place in CT until I moved to VA and found it near impossible.

this.

except slight adjustment and agreement with Uconn.
I lived in Arlington for a couple years very close to DC so we'd go out in DC or Old Town Alexandria and could easily get home. I enjoyed it. I didn't even mind Ballston or Clarendon when I worked there, nice happy hour bars, and convenient metro stops...

when I moved out to Fairfax is when I knew the end was near for me in NoVa.

so while I agree NoVa in general is one of the worst places on the planet and if Satan had a mailing address it would be in NoVa. the traffic, the weather, the food, the transient identity-less, soul-less people and plastic neighborhoods and communities made me hate everyone.

but I did like DC for the culture, the food, the night life, and the history.

CT sucks too, but food alone (New Haven pizza for one thing) makes it better than NoVa, proximity to NYC and Boston is huge, plus having 4 seasons and not having to suffer through July and August where your shirt is stuck to your back by the time you get to work even with the AC on max the whole 90 minute commute that sees you go 8 miles.

Plus, and this might be minor to some people, the men's hockey leagues in NoVa are terrible.

I fled southern California for that reason, and that place had a LOT more to recommend it than northern VA. It's always been expensive to live up there but it's obscene now - the only parts of the country with higher housing costs are Manhattan and the Bay Area.

I'm perfectly happy to stay in Richmond.
