Greg Cosell breaks down

I haven't seen this posted elsewhere. I love Greg Cosell's football insights, especially regarding QBs. Here he is on a Browns program going through the top 5 QBs in this class.

Cosell's insights are based on extensive film watching. I had heard an earlier take on the QBs where he seemed to favor Darnold and Mayfield. It seems his opinion has shifted a bit.

This is a great listen if you want more insight into these QBs but also his view on how NFL teams approach QB in general and the state of thinking about offense in the NFL.

So... factoring in my personal desire for a mobile QB, I am back to wanting mayfield over anyone else.

Certainly very complimentary about Mayfield. He does caveat it and say he does not evaluate personality just game tape, but interesting that he is very clear that his game is nothing like Manziel's in that most of his big plays happened on time and within the structure of the play called, not running around and heaving it down the field after the protection breaks down.

Sounded like he also thought Darnold needed quite a bit of work.

His prior thoughts were that he was surprised how most of Mayfield's plays were in structure. In that opinion - about 6 weeks ago I guess he seemed to prefer Mayfield to Rosen, slightly.

Now it seems he would go Rosen, for all the reasons we know. Rosen is pro ready. He is ready as a passer. etc etc. I guess he watched more film that solidified his opinion.

Personally I am hoping the Giants pick Rosen.. I'm not confident that they will though.. All the chatter is Darnold or Barkley. Though that may be a smoke screen.

He thinks a lot of all three. If you consider Barkley and those three as players you'd be happy with, then trading down to 4 with Cleveland makes sense - if they want to and if they offer enough.

He�s completely right. There isn�t a can�t miss prospect amongst the 4 top QB prospect. It depends what you are looking for. If you want a straight drop back QB ala Matt Ryan, Eli Manning, Tom Brady, you take Rosen. If you want the guy that extends plays ala Big Ben, you take Darnold. Just a preference on what the coaching staff prefers.
