Giants have a lot of cap space next year. I think I read it was around 70M before these deals, but even with these deals they should have enough for Odell and Collins, especially if they decide to go QB this year and go with said QB next year and move/cut Eli.
trade for Landry meant that they would be meeting with Cousins shortly.
Then the Browns traded for Tyrod Taylor without showing any interest in Cousins.

To be fair there were reliable reporters who were saying the same thing. This shit is fluid. The Browns could have wanted to meet with Cousins. Cousins could have told them no and then they went out to trade for Tyrod.
Every single reporter misses. I wouldn't put too much into it. For example Jason La Canfora constantly misses on other teams and has been spot on for the Giants ever since he reported the Gettleman hire.
With that said I would take this with a grain of salt. Just as you would with any rumor. The Mathieu signing does make a ton of sense. We have his former DC. The same guy who he had a DPOY type season under. We also have the need for a player like Mathieu. Also it would make sense why we cut DRC. They had to have some kind of idea who his replacement would be.
Yeah he will. Cap space isn't really a problem. The Eagles were 9 million over the cap. They went out and traded for Michael Bennett (Who is making good money). Gave Nigel Bradham 40 million a year. Plus signed LB Corey Nelson & Haloti Ngata.
not going to happen, unless they're OK with losing them.
Giants have cap space for 2019, and a ton more starting in 2020, this is really the only year they're going to be tight against the cap, ESPECIALLY if they go QB this draft.
how can you pay him with Collins on this team? If you do, that means you let Collins walk when his contract is up?
Omg, you guys will "seriously" bitch and whine about absolutely anything.
I dont think people are bitching, but he may get a big contract and I could be mistaken but his knee has been destroyed. And of course money is not endless. We have bad contracts on the team already why add more?

His knee was destroyed? He played the m per snaps of anyone in the NFL last year
Several NFL reporters (both National and NY) have said that the Giants are a legitimate fit for the Honey Badger. Bettcher's multiple scheme is predicated on having smaller, but highly athletic and physical back end playmakers. Matthieu was the straw that stirred the drink for the Top 5 AZ defense 3 years in a row.
Gettleman rounded up his personnel department a few weeks back for a presentation from Bettcher on precisely what kind of players he needs for his scheme to succeeed in New York. No doubt, the Honey Badger is at the very top of that list.
Not saying they couldnt move around money, but it would likely be irresponsible to pay him $8-10 million a year when you have to pay Landon Collins as well. We will see.
He'd be filling two needs. FS in base packages and slides down into the slot in Nickle. Two pretty huge needs, especially slot. Regarding Collins, you can pay both in the right scheme (Seattle) and I think Bettcher's fits the bill.
Grain of salt though, the source reporting is a nobody.
Oh yeah I've seen that. Ian Rapoport specifically pointing the Giants out when Mathieu first got cut was very interesting to me. I definitely think he's a legit option in NY, but this guy's track record is not good at all.

they will get him and the cap issues will be manageable... Bettcher knows this situation better than anyone in the NFL so have to believe that whatever they do it will be based on a well informed opinion of the player and his value.

speaking of the D Line, those 2 better perform this year because OV and even JPP can be cut next season with very minimual penalty (4M or so).

I mean he didnt really say anything breaking. Why wouldnt their be mutual interest? And many teams in the mix?

I took the trouble to google/look at Ortiz's background when the Cousins item was posted here. Just struck me as a guy with a keyboard.
Sure, this one "makes sense". If you predict enough things that make sense you will eventually be right.
Someone like La Canfora I give the benefit of the doubt when he's wrong. He has a real job and, at times, breaks real news (the Shurmer hiring).

Never mind.
He only signed a 1 year deal .... the Giants couldn't match or do better than that?
Maybe Matthieu didn't want to come here?
