Mathieu to Houston

Big Rick in FL : 3/16/2018 10:44 pm
1 year deal per Schefter.
Not even mad about this
Big Rick in FL : 3/16/2018 10:49 pm : link
Like I thought I would be. A 1 year deal is pointless. We aren't winning a SB in 2018. Now if he signed a 5 year deal with another team then I'd be pissed we missed out.
Pouncey should be

at this point the best use of cap room wasn't on 1 player
Eric on Li : 3/16/2018 10:57 pm : link
too many positions still need depth.

Would be nice to add another veteran interior lineman (Joe Berger would be great if he doesn't retire).

They don't just need 1 DB but probably 2. Mike Mitchell and Eric Reid are both out there. Maybe a DRC reunion isn't out of the question. Tramon Williams also out there and had a good year with Bettcher last year.

If they cut Marshall they need another WR. Jarius Wright was cut today. He's a solid player and knows Shurmur's offense even though he's more of a slot.

K/P still question marks.

Would have been great to sign Honey Badger, but probably just not realistic given the holes on the roster.
I kind of expected him to go there
illmatic : 3/16/2018 11:02 pm : link
Hopefully the Giants can get Sullivan signed. That would cap off a pretty solid free agency period.
1 year deal says a lot

Is he even healthy?
Contract number $$$

He should have been the priority BEFORE Mathieu....

He is a horrible locker room guy. On top of that he publicly supported Aaron’s hernandez.

Very cap friendly contract? Really surprised the Giants didn't make him a better offer?

They are my Vegas bet to win it all, btw, at 20/1.

Good for him

now lets shore up other positions,,
I would have liked the Splash
GMen23 : 3/17/2018 12:06 am : link
And he is a playmaker. But he's most effective in the box, and Collins flourished his 2nd year when he didn't have to play FS, and could come up to the line. Not a bad pass, especially if there is still an injury concern.
Would have really liked

him at 1 year 7 million
....
BleedBlue : 3/17/2018 12:35 am : link
5 mill free

Cut marshall Jerry Harris
Free up 10

15 total...

3 year deal...

Replacements...

Rookie money...

Could we not have made it happen?

How do you know that? Just like James Harrison was a lockerroom problem? He was sticking up for a college teammate with Hernandez. Thats a reason to write him off as a FA?

This fucking place....

Like I've said several times - I don't care that he played a billion snaps last year, he was not the same dynamic, all-pro talent he was in 2015 before he got hurt the following year.

This deal basically tells you that's the case.

Tyrann Mathieu at 100% and at the level he showed a few years ago does not sign a 1 year deal. I'm not even sure ARZ releases him if he's still playing at that level.

Reconstructive knee surgery, torn ACL, shoulder injury that ended his 2016 season..

Guy is 5'9" and under 190 lbs. Absolutely loved him as a player when he was at his best, but I think his best is clearly in the rear-view now.

Giants fans shouldn't be disappointed about this. It wouldn't have been a great signing for us.

Actually, I'm wrong above - the ACL tore at the end of the 2015 season and then the shoulder injury happened at the end of the 2016 season.

He tore his ACL and LCL in 2013.

This dude has been really banged up. We're better off.
Pouncey was horrible last year

Take Price or Daniels at 34.
Hard to believe that we wanted him that much
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 3/17/2018 7:24 am : link
if he went to Houston for $7 M on a one year deal. That is something we could have made work. Other priorities I suppose.
Cant pay a FA $7 mil

For a position we already have filled with an all pro talent

Perhaps Bettcher knows his value and if his injuries are more substantial than many like to think.

On NFLN this week they showed a list in which the Honey Bsdger was in the Top 3 players in the league last year in combined Tackles/INTs/QB Hits. You're very wrong. He had an amazing season in 2017.

Collins is a strong safety. Mathieu plays the slot corner and free safety

That OL though...not sure who they have at OT but it’s bad. Don’t think they have any picks in the first 2 rounds either

Yet his team released him and he's playing on a 1 year prove-it deal.

Makes sense.
