I see a totally new OL being put together. We really, really need the starters to stay healthy in training camp so they have time to mesh.
We are putting together a new linebacking corps. The DL will change with the new scheme.
Apple must mature and finally become a solid, reliable corner.
Finally & most important, Eli must NOT turn it over too much and stay healthy. I see us trading down in this draft to get #1 & #2 (OL Allen) and a #1, #2 next year. Just speculation on my part given our vast needs. Trading down is predicated on how much they think Eli has left AND how much improvement Webb has shown, though that may be hard to judge given there is no mini-camp type setting to evaluate him better this year.
I think the Giants can be competitive if they can finally stay health like they did in 2016; if Eli is still a facsimile at least of himself; and, we get an "easy" early schedule and start 2 - 0 as we learn the new schemes.
My prediction is 9 - 7 if the above occurs (health, Eli, solid draft).
GMs and Coach do not get a pass. They are expected to win.
I remember how great it was for the Colt going from Peyton to Luck. Well, not too great for the coaches/GMs.
NFL stands for "Not For Long".
Not sure, the Giants are only trying to win now, but Shurmur does not have a "hall pass". Turn around is expected immediately.
I truly understand getting a franchise QB, but then you look at NE with a 40 year old QB trading Garapolo, and go wtf?
They just look at his negative and just dont appreciate a good QB. Its not their fault they know better.
Furthermore, when building for the future you want a functioning system within which to develop young players.
So you do what you can.
Rookies won't learn as well or have as good outcomes in chaos or when things break down. Then, injuries mount when things are out of sorts.
So, it's both.
Can't sell the shirts and other NYG items if you arent winning.
This offseason is a win now, set up the future wins offseason(part 1). Next offseason is the win more now(part 2) win a championship in the short future
