Because we’re now offering the #2 qb in the draft before the 4th pick. If teams stand pat, they could be picking the 4th quarter back by pick 4. The first 3 picks are almost a lock to be qb qb qb right now.
The price can be meaningfully high to jump the jets and pick the best qb possible. I would expect that it’s likely to come down to draft day and which of the teams looking to trade up looking to take their #1 qb on their board based off Cleveland’s decision
Eg they will be motivated to trade up if Rosen goes #1, but Denver or bills have darnold as their #1 qb. Or vise Versa with any of the qbs available after Cleveland picks
I didn’t explain this well but I don’t think anyone is going to offer anything concrete until they see who Cleveland takes. If Cleveland takes a qb that is #1 on Denver’s or bills board, they would be far less motivated to trade up if they think there’s a gap in projection/talent/etc
Funny, I felt this trade by Jets lessens the possibility of a trade down
Gettleman is going quarterback, he s building for the long term, not just next two year s
What if the Browns take Allen at 1? What if we want Darnold?
The Bills are pretty obviously trying to claw their way up to one of the top QBs but they don't have the goods, IMO. We all know the other teams that probably could assemble a good enough haul of picks.
If I were running the Giants, I'd be in no hurry to make a move. Line up the offers in the run-up to the draft, pull the trigger later. It'll drive fans nuts but it's smart.

If we do want a QB it doesn't behoove us at all. In fact, it would be plain dumb to trade down.

Then we take Darnold at 2. Seems pretty obvious.
I know that trades happen because different teams are in different circumstances, but the #2 pick is not just valuable to trade, it is valuable as it is.
I think the G-men stay put and pick their QB.
