Ok Trade back talk

mdthedream : 3/17/2018 3:18 pm
anyone remember when the Chargers traded back with Atlanta? who took Mike Vick and the Chargers took Tomlinson and in the second extra pick they got in return took Drew Brees. How did that trade back workout? See I think the Giants have a great chance of doing something like this, its not about the one player if you can get a stud with the pick your getting say at 5 and than killing it after that. Early second round picks are huge. This is why they should consider every trade option.
If Cleveland
PaulN : 3/17/2018 3:23 pm : link
Takes a QB at 1, they may be the trade partner because they are dreaming of Barkley too. I they came away from this draft with Darnold and Barkley, I think they would give us the #4, both number 2's, and next seasons #1. That would be too good to pass up and at #4 we would still get a stud player. Unless the Giants love a QB and he is there, then all bets are off, you must take the franchise QB.

Buffalo is still at 11 and that is a pretty big difference. If we did trade with them, you have to get both first rounder's, both second rounder's, and next seasons first rounder.
Trust what we have

From everything I have read about Webb, he sounds like the consummate professional. He has the size, arm, dedication, smarts and he is learning from Eli. Shurmur and Shula are supposed to be QB Gurus who should be able to get him to the next level within the next year. Let's go with what we have, trade down and stock up. Everyone says that you must take advantage of #2 and get your QB of the future because you hopefully will not be drafting that high again. Well the same can be said of using the #2 to trade back, amass more picks and fill multiple holes, which is what we need to do. We may not get the chance to do this again.
Agree
mdthedream : 3/17/2018 3:28 pm : link
Also think Denver is a option as well. They would be adding picks for next year as well.
Trading back to #5
Reale01 : 3/17/2018 3:29 pm : link
The first 4 picks will likely be 3 QBs and Barkley.
that leaves
#4 QB
Nelson
Chubb
Fitz

Available at #5.

You would likely get Denver #2 pick, a #1 in 2019, and something else.

NO WAY you want to take Nelson, Chubb, or Fitz at #2 now. You trade back if that's who you want.
Even
mdthedream : 3/17/2018 3:30 pm : link
if we take Chubbs with pick 5 it would be a great get.
So simple
BleedBlue : 3/17/2018 3:31 pm : link
You want Barkley stay at 2 and take him. You want Nelson trade with Denver...
There is still a chance you get Barkley at 5 if browns trade #4 to bills although that would require the browns to be okay with passing on Barkley.

QBs go first 4 Barkley at five.

Imo though it's simple. Barkley stay put. Nelson trade back

In another thread but is it unrealistic to think the Jets get antsy someone jumps them for their QB and offers their #1 next year to the Giants to move up one spot?

Then the Giants are still sitting pretty and could listen to offers for the 3 from either Cleveland at 4 or Denver at 5. Especially Denver at 5 if they want a QB.

Giants could get a sweet haul and still one of Barkley,Chubb,Nelson or Fitzpatrick at 5.

Definitely don't want them trading back any farther than 5 though. If Buffalo wants #2, they need to move up from 12 somehow first for me.
Building a foundation
Bruner4329 : 3/17/2018 3:34 pm : link
you end up with 4 picks in the first 2 rounds and 6 in the first 4 rounds, if you draft properly you can come away with 4 to 5 starters or 20-25% of your starting lineup at a controlled cost the next few years. Hard to pass up. hard to argue you are not building for the future as well as potentially impacting the present.
agree
mdthedream : 3/17/2018 3:34 pm : link
the Giants need to get one start early Buff is to fair back.

Certainly a possibility. Giants would only do it if they don't like the QBs and Jets would only do it if they had a strong preference for one of the QBs. I wouldn't expect a haul like that though because the Jets trading now indicates that they probably have 3 grouped closely together. Maybe their 3rd and young player like Enunwu or something.
I wouldnt have
mdthedream : 3/17/2018 3:39 pm : link
a problem with that we get Barkley at three and extra picks.

If Cleveland trades #4 and two second round picks. The draft goes QB, Barkley, QB.

Sitting at 4

Take the #3 QB - Mayfield/Allen at worst

Trade with Denver who want the #3 QB and does not want the Bills to jump them, likely get a 2 and a 3.

Trade with Buffalo for 12, 22 and 2 second round picks.

The result if two trades:

Cleveland the Denver: Nelson/Chubb/Fitz/#4 QB, 4 picks in round two and 2 in round three

Cleveland then Buffalo: Picks 12, 22, 5 picks in round two, and possibly more. I think you would still get a real good player at 12.

Buffalo is still at 11 and that is a pretty big difference. If we did trade with them, you have to get both first rounder's, both second rounder's, and next seasons first rounder.
If you remember

SD also took the big LB as well Marion.

Yeah I should've said that was going on the assumption the Giants didn't like a QB at 2.

Not sure I would do it for less than next year's 1 but what you suggested isn't too bad considering the guy the Giants would want would still be there at 3, and they'd add a pick and a player.

Barkley or QB otherwise trade back.

This is the only logical move I would make. Unless I have a qb in mind myself at 2. The one w Cleveland makes sense but unless it’s mike ditka pulling the plug that deal for giants prob won’t happen.
Trading down sounds great in video game world
giantsFC : 3/17/2018 3:44 pm : link
But how often do added trades even work out. Heck I remeber most teams who do this wind up w crap players for the extra picks or busts with the later picks.

Trade down too far and it’s pointless. A spot or two or trade up,

Paul I think the only way we trade with the Bills is if we trade with Cleveland or Denver first. We would effectively have Buffalo 12 and 22 AND 4 second round picks including 33,34,36, 37 and a 2019 #1 for the 2nd pick. We would still get a very good player at 12 and be set for years to come.

Right there with ya md.

I like this idea but only if they're not sold on a QB, and don't trade back farther than 5. They could easily replicate what SD with Thomlinson/Brees if they listen to all offers and play their cards right.

I have much more confidence in them playing this right than I would've if Reese was still at the helm.

Maybe
mdthedream : 3/17/2018 4:11 pm : link
we add a Qb in second round if we get a boat load of picks and get a stud with the first pick say at 4 or 5. The Giants go with Eli,Webb and the 2nd round pick or third round QB. i Could live with that. The Washington got Cousins when they drafted the other QB.
I also
mdthedream : 3/17/2018 4:14 pm : link
think Denver had there mind on a QB and the Jets moving up most have them a little pissed off.
The chance to get a franchise quarterback
joeinpa : 3/17/2018 4:38 pm : link
Should not be compared to the chance to stock like picks.
Maybe
mdthedream : 3/17/2018 4:41 pm : link
they feel Webb is that guy. If the Giants want the QB yes I agree but if they are taking a guard than I think they should trade back and do a deal.
Also
mdthedream : 3/17/2018 4:42 pm : link
this is why a team like Denver would give up a boat load.
The Op reasoning is flawed
giantstock : 3/17/2018 5:20 pm : link
With that reasoning then it must have meant teams like the Broncos blew it when they drafted Elway.

Anyone who didn't trade down for a high QB pick must have really blown it?
No
mdthedream : 3/17/2018 5:33 pm : link
every team situation is different. If the Giants believe in Webb OK trade back if not I understand taking a Qb at two is smart. If the Giants are going to take Nelson they better trade back. Really depends on what the Giants are thinking. If they want Chubbs trade back to 5.
I keep seeing people reference Denver
djm : 3/17/2018 5:38 pm : link
As a team that would trade up for a qb. I don’t see this at all. Denver has their vet qb and a young qb in lynch. They will take a player not a qb.
The Giants
mdthedream : 3/17/2018 5:39 pm : link
are in the drivers seat. They know its QB,QB,QB if they trade out so if they don't want one then they know its smart to trade back to say pick 5.
nope
mdthedream : 3/17/2018 5:40 pm : link
Denver has been looking hard at all the QBs. They know Lynch is not the answer.
Not really
mdthedream : 3/17/2018 5:48 pm : link
a big issue seeing Eli would be gone. It really comes down to does the kid have it or not.

Right... and when Denver takes Chubb or Nelson or fitz I’ll say hi.

Every team is looking at qbs. Doesn’t mean they take one.
Well
mdthedream : 3/17/2018 5:53 pm : link
if they stay at 5 they might not. I agree with that esp seeing Jets moved up to get one.
If the broncos offer to trade up
giantsFC : 3/17/2018 6:28 pm : link
Then it’d be calling the jets to see if they want to give up something to trade up once spot to get their pick, then giants still get their non qb choice and get an added pick. They don’t have much to offer or this draft now but hey do have a 1st for the next draft. Or even two two third rounders.
Omg
LakeGeorgeGiant : 3/17/2018 6:30 pm : link
I can't wait for the draft to be over.

Why not do both? Let the Jets worry Denver will jump them and entice them to trade up one spot. Then do a trade back to 5 with Denver.

That's if the Giants aren't set on any one particular player at 2, whether that's a QB or whoever. They could definitely get one of Barkley,Chubb, Nelson or Fitzpatrick at 5 if QBs go 1-2-3.

Why would they need to? Jets are taking QB. Unless we tell them we are taking Barkley if you don't trade with us.
