Why a trade with Cleveland might be the best option

floridagiantsfan : 3/18/2018 1:50 am
Say we get #4 and Clevelands 1& 3 in round 2

Cleve goes Darnold and Barkley at 1 & 2
Jets take the kid from Wyoming

Giants sitting at 4 have a choice of Rosen or Nelson. I'll go with Rosen and we have our QB

With the first three picks in round 2 the Giants take

Isaiah Wynn, Billy Price and Darius Guise if available . If he's gone you can still get Jones, Chubb or Michel.

This solves our OL with a quality guard and center prospect and still provides a good RB. Not to Barkley level but more than serviceable.

In round 3 we take Anthony Averett a cb from Alabama. Solves a definite need with a quality player.

In round 4 we go wr. How about Daesean Hamilton of Penn St.
He's 6'2 catches everything and runs great routes. If he's gone the 6'5 receiver from ND could be available.

Finally in round 5 we take Victor Azeem a lb from Washington.

We come out of this scenario solving a lot of priblems and still get a QB. Something to think about

Don't think the Giants

we got a 4th round comp pick that we traded. We own our 4th round pick this year
Does Cleveland wanna make that trade
GoBlue6599 : 3/18/2018 2:39 am : link
Who knows if Cleveland wants to trade up and give up all there high 2nd round picks
Why
djstat : 3/18/2018 5:34 am : link
Do people think Cleveland is so eager to trade up? I would want way ore then just their two second round picks
Browns can just sit at 4 and get Barkley now
jeff57 : 3/18/2018 5:59 am : link
Why would they want to trade up?

Trading down with Denver would make a lot more sense.
Browns Are Now Less Likely To Trade With The NYG
Jim in Tampa : 3/18/2018 5:59 am : link
Think about it.

The Jets are taking a QB at 3 and unless the Browns want to possibly have to settle for the 4th best QB, they have to take a QB at 1.

That means there is only one team standing in the way of the Browns taking Barkley at 4 (if that's the player they covet) and if I'm Kevin Costner, I'm gambling that the NYG are taking a QB at 2. That means the Browns can take their top QB and the top player at some other position with their first 2 picks.

And the Browns are never going to give up 33 and 35.
That scenario is best if we want Nelson....
Dry Lightning : 3/18/2018 7:03 am : link
I like it because you get extra picks AND you get a true blue chip talent in this draft. Even though Cleveland would be moving up only two spots they are coming up for a prime pick and a prime player. I would want there number one pick next year in addition to anything else we get. Didn't we pay a future number one to go up and get Eli. We moved up one spot less. This is fair. If they don't want it-fuck'em. But I think they will cave. What scares me is they may take Nelson-but our consolation prize would be pretty damn good-Barkely.
Why would Cleveland want to?
Matt M. : 3/18/2018 7:33 am : link
Uess something changes between now and draft day, they are sitting in the catbird seat after the Jets move. They can select thhteir top choicd at QB #1 a d then Barkley or Nelson (or Chubb) at 4.

The only other thing that may get thwm to trade js if they really want Barkley and they fear we will take him at 2. But, I don't think it's enough to trade up for with the other potential players available.
Best case is to trade with the Broncos
rasbutant : 3/18/2018 7:34 am : link
Broncos may be content staying at 5 though if they think Mayfield will be there and if they would be happy with that.

At 5 you are guaranteed one of the top 4 qbs or Barkley.

Imagine getting the bounty from trading down and still getting your qb of the future or Barkley.
That cluster on top of round 1
idiotsavant : 3/18/2018 7:34 am : link
Would be amazing. Basically 4 first roynders in all and a phenomenal way to focus the process.
Top of round 2 hypothetical stockpile

The Jets moving up changes everything.
youngd74 : 3/18/2018 7:37 am : link
Cleveland has no reason to move up. Denver does not need to move up. Even if QB's are taken the top three. Mayfield would be sitting there at 5. if we choose Barkley than Denver is still good. Or Cleveland would get him at 4.
Buffalo is the only real option now.
What others have said
TD : 3/18/2018 7:42 am : link
Cleveland is sitting pretty at 1 and 4. They’ll get the best player at 2 positions, including the QB of their choice. Cleveland isn’t moving.
If Denver wants mayfeild they should probably.move up
idiotsavant : 3/18/2018 7:44 am : link
We can take and force trade

Or Cleveland could take him.

""
Or if Cleveland happens to like 3 of the QBs
TD : 3/18/2018 7:45 am : link
They take their non-QB at 1 (Barkley?) and sit back and take whoever is left of Darnold/Rosen/Allen/Mayfield at 4.
Sometimes there is a dark horse who wants to trade up for reasons
wgenesis123 : 3/18/2018 7:53 am : link
no one could see coming into the draft. I don't think its Cleveland if there is one. Cleveland would have to take Barkley at one to really covet the number two pick for a QB. Now if they want Barkley they don't really have to do that because its shaping up as QB at 2 and 3. There is still time for Cleveland to talk themselves into it as teams sometimes do ( see Chicago last year) but that does not seem likely.
Cleveland is NOT TRADING WITH THE GIANTS
ZogZerg : 3/18/2018 7:58 am : link
Why do people think this?

They know QB is going at 2 and 3 and they can get Barkley at 4 (if they even want him). The only way they won't is if the Giants are taking him at 2. If they were, they wouldn't trade with Cleveland. No one is trading to 2 to get Barkley.
Why does everybody assume Cleveland want Barkley?
robbieballs2003 : 3/18/2018 8:20 am : link
Their beat writers have mentioned that they'd probably pass on Barkley at 4 if he is still there. Cleveland is almost definitely not trading up. They will probably get their QB at 1 and either Chubb or Fitzpatrick at 4 and be very happy.
If Cleveland has no clear preference over the QBs
Jimmy Googs : 3/18/2018 8:32 am : link
they sit tight. Although I imagine they will have a preference but if its only marginal, they sit still at 1 and 4.

If Cleveland has a clear cut preference, they can clearly do something about with all that draft capital in the second round. They should give up those picks and next years #1 to us and we move back to #4.

Cleveland gets their #1 QB and Barkley, and we probably go non-QB...

Cleveland will ruin the best players at 2 positions.
The Jets trade yesterday completely pinched Cleveland.
Emlen'sGremlins : 3/18/2018 8:42 am : link
1) They must now take a QB at #1 or risk losing the one they want.
2) If they want Barkley with their second first round pick they must now trade with us or risk losing him too.
The only change I think is evident
Mike from Ohio : 3/18/2018 8:47 am : link
From the Jets trading up to #3 is that Cleveland has to take their QB at #1 because the chances of their guy falling to #4 just got much lower. If they covet Barkley and take him first, they likely see two QBs come off the board before they pick again. Sure maybe they have a similar grade on three QBs, but it is unlikely. I'm sure almost every team has a guy they prefer. If they take that guy, there is still a decent chance Barkley is there at #4.
Unless...
Zepp : 3/18/2018 8:50 am : link
they really want Barkley they will do that but considering this team has won 1 game the last two years I would figure they don't have draft picks to throw away on one guy no matter how good he is. They can stay where they are and get their QB and Chubb and thats a nice draft to start.

Or if the Giants trade down Barkley could still be there at 4.

Either way there is no reason for the Browns to trade down. Its just wait and see what the Giants do and no matter what they do they will get an excellent player at 4....and they'll have their QB.

PS. Giants better take Barkley.

That’s a huge if since they a,ready signed Carlos Hyde. I don’t see them wanting Barkley now. They could take Fitzpatrick or Chubb at 4 however. I do not see their need to trade up with us. There will be suitors for that #2, but I don’t think it’ll be Cleveland.
Cleveland might also be fine taking a RB with one of their

This "generational" thing on Barkley has gotten a bit out of control when its just as likely some other rookie RB(s) will have excellent 2018 seasons and pro careers.

This. The Barkley hype train is out of control on this site. I don't think he's that much better it will have that much better numbers than Guice next year.

Cleveland controls this draft and having passed on Wentz and Watson, they have no choice but to take a QB at #1. They can’t sit back and let a QB come to them. That’s the strategy they employed the past few years that got them to 1-31. They need to pick their QB and and go with it. If they have a non-QB on their board they feel is destined for Canton, odds are greater than 50-50 he will be there at #4. They can also beg the Giants to trade into #2. If the Giants don’t, odds are again they are taking a QB. They just can’t sit back and get the 3rd QB off the board.

I could easily see them
Tim in VA : 3/18/2018 10:32 am : link
Wanting Barkley and QB of choice. Trading for the top 2 picks to ensure they get what they want is well within possibility

Hell, we debate it everyday...
I don't really know what people are expecting from Saquon Barkley

when a 4th round pick ran for 1400 yards last year. I think his NFL parallel is lesean mccoy, who was really good. It's not like spending a 2nd overall pick on him means he's going to be a 2000 yard rusher.

Plenty of teams fall in love with exactly the type of prospect allen is. Wouldn't be shocked at all.

Unless he's an all time great RB, what ever production he puts up can be found later in the draft.

Accurate analysis IMO. The Browns would not trade a lot to make that move. Might give a little to assure the Giants do not trade #2 to someone who wants Barkley or take Barkley themselves. They would get a much better deal from someone who wants to jump the NYJ for a QB.
