I’ve probably been in the minority here, but I would have seriously entertained trading with Buffalo when they held picks 21 and 22. Since Buffalo moved to pick 12 and 22, I’d pull the trigger. But I understand not wanting to drop out of the top ten.
With yesterday’s news you have to believe the Bills are desperate to move up. You don’t trade away your starting QB (even an avg one) and your starting LT to move up ten spots if you aren’t all in on getting a QB in the draft.
Still perhaps Buffalo doesn’t have enough to entice Gettleman out of the two slot. So what about a three way trade between the Giants-Bills-Colts. From the Buffalo rumblings website, what about this?
BUF gets 2 from NYG, 140 from IND
IND gets 12, 56, 121 from BUF
NYG gets 6 from IND, 22 and 65 BUF
Buffalo is left with 2, 53, 96, 140, 166, 187
In this scenario 4 of the top 5 picks will almost certainly be QBs, with Cleveland probably grabbing Barkley at 4. This gives the Giants the potential opportunity to select Nelson at 6, maybe a CB or edge rusher coat 22. Giants can use their second round pick on a player like Billy Price who can play OG and OC, or either one of the Georgia RBs, a 2nd tier QB or a 2nd tier OT. This also gives the Giants the top two picks in round 3, 65 and 66.
My logic simply boils down to the following:
-The Giants are trying to improve the team around the QB, regardless of who that QB is now or will be in the future. This team is full of holes created by a dismal draft record. We all know this. It does little good to draft a QB now only to hand a young QB the reigns to a shoddy and incomplete roster a year later. I think it’s a recipe for disaster. It’s potentially Derek Carr 2.0. Fix the roster first.
- The Giants currently don’t have enough assets to fix this team. They have decent cap space but not enough to go shopping at Whole Foods. Plus they have to plan ahead for Collins and OBJ contracts. They need to address the roster via the draft, but they currently only have 5 draft picks. A trade down is in order.
- I don’t expect the Giants to fall in love with any of the top QBs at pick 2. Darnold probably goes number 1 overall, and even he has question marks about release and decision making. Rosen is the superior talent, but I don’t see Gettleman taking a QB with his injury history at 2. I could see Allen being a fit but not at 2, his accuracy is a big question. Jackson and Mayfield just don’t seem to fit what the Giants look for at QB and both seem better off script than on.
The Buffalo Rumblings article also discusses possible triangle trades with the Browns and Broncos, but suggests the Colts are a better partner.

I’d be ok with just trading directly with the Bills, but I’d ask for picks 12, 21, and 65 this year and Buffalo’s first round pick next year.
Very true. Buffalo may have no choice. They want a QB. They’ve spent the last 11 months getting in position. I don’t think they will just let this opportunity slip through their fingers. I think they will be ready to offer quite a lot.
And NY wouldn't either.
I get this is a Giants' fan site and that people are going to be biased in the Giants' favor. However, some of the compensation packages people are talking about for the Giants to move out are outlandish.
If the Giants move to 12, here is what they can expect and what would likely be acceptable to both sides:
Buffalo's first rounders at 12 and 21, #53 OR #56, and a 2019 first rounder (THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PICK IN THE PACKAGE, AND MUST BE INCLUDED NO MATTER WHAT ELSE IS OFFERED). Then, you MIGHT, and I stress, MIGHT, be able to get a 2019 2nd or a third rounder this year on top (Bills have #'s 65 and 96 overall in the 3rd round this year).
That's it. And that is a really good package for the Giants. Not both 1's, both 2's, a three, a 1st and 2nd next year. That's fantasy land, and ain't happening, regardless of the trade announced yesterday.
In terms of the Broncos, you can expect #5, #40, #71, #99, and next year's 1st. It would be an acceptable deal even if both thirds weren't included this year (but the earlier third would have to be in the deal).
I would be fine with the Giants taking either deal or sitting tight and taking Saquon Barkley or a QB.
Yes it cost Glenn, but moved from 21 to 2 for Glen and 2 2s and gained lower end picks.
On this deal alone, they go 12>6>2 for a 12,22, an Indy pick, and gainpicks further down.
GM that signs up for that that's not from Buffalo should be executed.
But if there's a package that starts with the #4, #5 or #6 pick, I'm listening. But it better have some nice 2nd-rounders.
I don't see how Buffalo gets down to the top 6 with enough assets left to fill out the trade. The trade(s) would have to get nuts, with most of their premium 2019 and 2020 picks in play.
They have to go on the 53 they’re are salary cap ramifications and you can’t put high draft picks on the practice squad can you
We are not in the business to draft for other teams
I say stay at #2 and take Rosen or Barkley
5 picks is good enough this regime I think is better at spotting and developing talent
And furthermore this roster is better than a lot of people think
They are desperate, the Giants aren't.
The Browns at 4 could be the spot for the bills if the Browns take their QB at #1
