Defensive end Josh Mauro will visit the Giants, per source. He's set to arrive Sunday. Knows defensive coordinator James Bettcher from time with Cardinals. Fits the scheme. Good 5-technique DE with 26 career starts in four years. He had 22 tackles and a sack last season.

way OV and JPP are on the team after this season? Neither are a good fit for the 3-4 and both have huge contracts.
How is JPP not a good fit for 3-4 DE. He's a big man and stout against the run. He can hold the point of attack. OV is too small to be a DE and not nearly fast enough to be a OLB.
Vernon played some in Miami. He’s fast enough to play OLB.

I suppose he could be competent as a 3-4 DE but the scheme doesn't maximize his strengths IMO. It will be difficult for him to justify a $20M cap number.

I think it does maximize his strengths. He’s now a better run defender than pass rusher.
3-4 DE's do the dirty work. The ones that can also provide pass rush are rare and expensive.
When someone evaluates a 3-4 DE by the amount of asks he has it says all I need to know about the poster.
I guess the Giants shonly concentrate on bringing in 15 sack guys that will cost $15M per year, otherwise why bother...

26 starts and a grand total of 2 sacks. He better be great against the run.

Amount of SACKS obviously. Damn fat fingers
Did I quote you or address you? No I didn’t, stop being such an insecure bitch.
Could be useful.
Looks like we might add another true Harrison big type DT in draft. Cannot just have one on roster. W suggest sets w 2.

Complete lack of sacks says something. I know the difference between 3-4 and a 4-3

Well I can breathe easy knowing this guy trolls everyone with angry, instigating posts.
Josh Maruo visits - 55 tackles and 2 sacks in 4 seasons - and BBI turns its collective nose up.
Weird.
What is your problem?
I'm talking about the blue goose that can play any DT technique, bigs that can rush as opposed to the smaller large-4/3-de types (who are also useful and whom I advocated for often in those days.) We have two of those now more or less.
DL more rotation than OL also.
No longer the days of just roll out in the same technique all game long.

Correct, if they're looking to trim the fat next season and re-work some personnel, JPP figures the most logical odd man out among the big ticket contracts.
I actually think they are similar. They are both better at stuffing the run vs rushing the passer - regardless of how they were used. My assumption is they like Wynn more.
It is not a bad match for our personnel. Snacks is a better 3-4 NT. Tomlinson played in the 3-4 in college. Goodson is probably a better fit at ILB in a 3-4 also. Kareem Martin played in Bettcher's scheme already. Ogletree played in a 3-4 with the Rams. The only player that appears to be an odd fit is JPP.

Think it's a bad match for our personnel and a bad match for the pass happy NFL. Snacks and Tomlinson are a top 5 pair of 4-3 DTs and OV and JPP are better suited to a 4-3 as well. Even the Pats have basically given up on the 3-4.

Snacks went from a very good NT to al All Pro in the 4-3. Tomlinson is going to be an excellent 3 tech DT. Ogletree had his best season at WILL. And we have 4-3 DEs as backups with Okwara and Moss.
Because they think they know what they think they know, but they don't know!
DE, Fox signed yet?
It's a more complicated question than "3-4 DEs do ___".
A 5-tech 3-4 DE is the most traditional type of 3-4 DE. They set the edge against the run and engage blockers to free up linebackers to make plays, run or pass. They're not guys with big sack numbers. Considering how much more pass-happy the NFL is, you don't see them used the same way the 3-4 was played in 1986.
Should I? You seem to know a lot about Klan etiquette where as I don't have a clue.
nope. running full speed toward your racist assumptions that it was a racist post and laughing as I do. They say those who point fingers then turn around and finger themselves....ancient Chinese proverb.
oh wait or is saying that racist too?
