What were the Rams thinking taking a Guard with the #2 pick

Emlen'sGremlins : 3/18/2018 8:13 pm
....in the 1966 NFL Draft?

Tom Mack, a Guard from the University of Michigan was selected by the Rams with the #2 overall pick. So, just how did that work out for them?

- Played 13 seasons (1966-1978)
- Never missed a game. 184 Consecutive Games Played (3rd most in Rams history behind Merlin Olsen and Jack Youngblood)
- 11x Pro Bowl (tied for all-time NFL lead with Bob Lilly and Ken Houston)
- 1st Team All Pro 4x
- 2nd Team All Pro 4x
- All NFC 8x
- Inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999
- Rams had a .720 Winning Percentage during his career
- Rams won their Division Championship 8x during his career
- Rams made the NFC Championship Game 4x during his career

I think this is precisely the kind of player that is available to us this year with Quenton Nelson from Norte Dame. Dave Gettleman will get his Gold Jacket Hog Mollie!

Dude - you had to go all the way back to 1966 for this?

That was over 50 years ago. You have been busy today.
Tom Mack
Archer : 3/18/2018 8:25 pm : link
First 1966 was a historically bad draft

Second Mack was drafted to play left tackle and did not make it
He was changed to a guard where he had his pro bowl seasons

There were no quaterbacks or running backs of any renown drafted in the first round

If I recall The Giants drafted Jerry Hildebrand in this draft
1966?

I thought the trade downers were stretching with their Herschel Walker trade comps. That was 1989.

Sorry I just looked it up the Giants selected Francis Peay

Hahahahaha!
BigBlueShock : 3/18/2018 8:33 pm : link
Did this ass clown really use an example from 1966, where a team drafted what they thought was a LT and failed as a reason to take a guard in today’s NFL? Jeezus, what has happened to this place? How long did this guy sit at his computer today to find sometuthat he thought fit his narrative?
It should make you nervous

The worst/most irrelevant piece of evidence that I have seen anyone actually research to support a draft pick this year. Impressive.

Very well done.

Teams Traded Up To 2 in The Last Two Drafts...
Jim in Tampa : 3/18/2018 8:39 pm : link
To take a QB.

No one has ever traded up to 2 to take a guard.

And even if you count Mack as "drafting a Guard" that was 52 years ago!

What does that tell you?

Barron wasn’t the second pick, he was 19th
Unfortunately Mack was never able to lead

To be a bit clearer here...

Ogden was not a G. He was a T at UCLA and in the pros.

Leonard Davis was T in at UT, btw. He did switch to G in the NFL.
LOL..

I keep thinking people will actually pause and think for a minute before making certain posts, and I'm continually wrong.

And to put the cherry on top, Emlen's might even have paused and still posted it.

Yes, he's that moronic.
