Looking to go there for the first time tomorrow.
First, where do you recommend I look for seats and where to avoid? Given the low attendance, does it make sense to purchase a cheap seat and 'move' down or is that not allowed? I don't want to overpay if I don't need.
Second, what are the food options like both in the arena and nearby? I have dietary restrictions (low fat, no dairy, low gluten) so I usually stick to chicken or seafood/sushi/bbq.
Thanks.
staff just wants their revenge because, well you know
There are a ton of options for food by the Barclay's Center. I would recommend McMahon's or Patsy's Pizza, which usually are not as crowded as Morgan's. I think the Smoke Joint just opened up near there as well and I heard people saying it was good (never been there myself).
+1
go to morgans, enjoy the game, and thank me the following day for the morgans rec.

Given the low attendance; would it make sense to just buy a cheap ticket and move down or do they monitor that stuff pretty tightly?

He is going to an islanders game clearly against his beloved penguins. The barclays for hockey absolutely sucks!

at the Barclays is that it is actually dangerous. The geniuses who built that building put the cup holders on the ground and the space between rows is extremely narrow up top; at least once a game someone upstairs takes a giant spill. Even though you could probably move down to the lower and middle level (I don't even think they have guards in front of the middle section), I would just splurge for the bottom if you can afford it and not worry about it. It is such a better experience.

They definitely check tickets in the lower level for Nets games; I am not sure about the middle level(100s), but I never see ushers for that level--since the entrance to lower level and middle level are together, it is usually jus one usher in front of the lower level. You just have to be careful of what you buy. I don't have the map in front of me at the moment, but you need to buy tickets on the side where the Islanders shoot twice (like Section 12, 15 etc), the other side of the ice, especially past the blue line has severely obstructed views. If you buy upstairs, buy in the first few rows on the side the islanders shoot twice and the seats will be totally fine and you would protect yourself if you can't move down. The Barclays is really steep and really high, I would not recommend seats above row 10 in upper tier. It also is not designed for hockey, I was at a Rangers game there recently in the upper tier and a high row and every time someone gets up, half the ice is covered. The place stinks for hockey. So in essence, my advice is low row, preferably 1-5 for upper tier (no more than ten), or just wait for lower level. I can't imagine you not being able to get a lower level ticket for an Isles game against anyone other than the Rangers on a weekday for under $40 bucks. If they are higher now, wait for tomorrow.
