NFT: Small Engine Discussion - Honda vs Briggs

GP : 3/19/2018 11:33 am
Quick Question for Red Dog - and the rest of BBI ;) - is a Honda engine on a simple push mower worth the 50 extra bucks than the same model with a Briggs & Stratton engine? Asking for a friend (seriously)... I've had no issues with my Briggs & Stratton engine with regular yearly maintenance, yet I've heard that Honda is simply the way to go and I wonder if that's more myth than substance.

Thanks!
Honda by a mile IMO

Honda is the OBJ of motors -- flashy but will get you into trouble.
My Craftsman riding mower has a Briggs engine

Out on the floor at Sam's Club over the weekend. I'm not in the market for one, so I don't know what kind of savings you would receive.
worth $100 more.

Get the Honda and be done with it. B&S sucks

Mine is about the same age and still going strong!
Honda is grossly over-rated.

Not that Briggs is great, because it isn't. But the Honda simply is not worth an extra $50. They are fussier and more expensive to service than a Briggs. So given that choice, I take Briggs every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Briggs used to be bulletproof.

No more.

Simply NOT a serious, reliable engine. My son works at Lowes, MANY returns of malfunctioning Briggs engines.

Go with the Honda.
Absolutely

Briggs' work well enough, but Honda's are twice the engine from a maintenance standpoint and especially function.
Had a Honda walk-behind for 10 years and then gave it to my daughter

when she bought a house. She and my son-in-law have used it for another 9 years without a problem. So yes it is worth the extra cost. However, I have had pretty good success with a Briggs too
Briggs use to be the best

Not sure what happened. It’s complete shit now. Honda is way better
