I always believe it's helpful during the evaluation process to rank the current group of prospects among the players at the position from the previous two drafts. I recently looked up the grades I gave to the quarterbacks in the '16 and '17 draft classes and I slotted them in with this year's crop of talent. Here's the order I have them in based on their draft grade. - Daniel Jeremiah 1. Sam Darnold 2. Carson Wentz 3. Josh Rosen 4. Jared Goff 5. Baker Mayfield 6. Josh Allen 7. Deshaun Watson 8. Mitchell Trubisky 9. Deshone Kizer 10. Paxton Lynch |
Mahomes not on this list is not a good look for Jeremiah.
Darnold, although good numbers and mobile, threw a ton of picks and also did not win as much.
Mahomes not on this list is not a good look for Jeremiah.
That’s easy tk say in retrospect
Draft class: 2018
The skinny: Rosen is the best pure passer in this time frame (2016-2018). His motion, footwork and arm talent are off the charts.
This.
Mahomes not on this list is not a good look for Jeremiah.
Is it really that big of a knock? We've seen him in one game. It looks like he will be good, but we don't really know for sure.
Mahomes went after Trubisky in the draft. He had Watson higher. So as far as his ranking of those three...not really all that crazy thus far.
It really comes down to Kizer and Lynch being there and Mahomes not. But again, keep in mind, this is just a grade of where they were as prospects. We have the benefit of their time in the NFL. Not to mention, drop Mahomes in Cleveland last year and who knows how we feel about him.
Umm. Seriously? I've been reading BBI, as recently as today, where you can open any draft thread and find people arguing that the Giants would be fools to reach at QB for flawed QB prospects when there is a generational RB available.

Look, I despise the way they play football in the Big 12. It makes my physically ill. But Mahomes showed off an arm, mobility, and creativity that were considerably better than the attributes of Kizer and Lynch.
The Qb grades are there for selection of one in the top 5. Rosen, if his medical clears, is polished and certainly talented enough to be taken at #2.
The positional talent around the QB's is higher this year it seems with Barkley, CHubb, Nelson, and Fitzpatrick the notable names. This is giving us as fans ALOT of people to root for, which is understandable in that some serious picks could come our way in addition to adding the highly talented positional guys.
We are in a good spot. Enjoy it. Lot's of reasonable suggestions, to QB or not QB, with personal preferences making for lively discussion
Number 5 in your programs, number one in your hearts. The only people who have Webb as anything other than a clip board holder are a small contingent of Giants fans themselves and idiots like Paul Dottino. Probably the same fans who worshiped Jesse Palmer, Mike Cherry, Rhett Bhomar, and Ryan Nassib.
Agree about Wentz. Goff? I wasn't quite sure, and that was largely because he took a beating his last year at Cal. Sonny Dykes was just a total joke at providing adequate protection. He should have been fired for attempted manslaughter the way "organized" pass protection...
I think you're confusing my take on this crop of QBs with the take of those I was responding to. I posted that those who knock this class need to understand that there are a lot of folks out there who grade them very highly as compared to past classes. I know there are people who feel that way....you just seem to be under the impression that there are ONLY people that feel that way. If you've read BBI at all lately, you should know that's not the case.
Mahomes not on this list is not a good look for Jeremiah.
What has Mahomes done in the NFL so far?
Too early to say "its a bad grade" by him.

Well, he has convinced a head coach known as a QB guru to send a veteran packing. One place I'd be hard pressed to doubt Andy Reid is his feel for QBs.

Could I say the same thing about Darnold at #1?
As I mentioned earlier, Mahomes should be ahead of both Kizer and Lynch. His body of work at TT was tremendous compared to each of them - but Kizer in particular.
And just based on his physical attributes, Mahones would be in the conversation as one of the top guys in this draft class. His arm and ability to make plays on the move was extraordinary at TT. It's very hard to watch that arm talent and not be mesmerized...

Don't forget the Hefty Lefty and the Practice Squad Transactions Hall of Famer.

And what has Mahomes done in the NFL so far? Nothing

The same as Jeremiah’s top ranked QB - Darnold.
Your point?
Agreed... there is a lot of sentimentalality at Jints Central for Eli. I think there is a real desire to chase a fairytale ending for Eli versus transitioning to a new generation....

DJ's ratings here show the Giants would be morons to pass on a franchise quarterback.

Why do you keep saying ‘Jints Central’? Am I out of the loop on a catch phrase?

For a long time either the Daily News called the front office that. I liked it, so I sort of hijackec it. Come to think of it, I’ve used that term since the late ‘90s here at BBI...
And hijacked...
The top QB prospect in 2019 as of now is Drew Lock- he would've been the 5th or 6th best QB in this draft. Just goes to show you how this is a favorable year to be looking for a QB.
