“I have to say, I miss it more than I thought I would . . . There have been some [topics] that have gotten me. There’s no question. I don’t want to list them, but there’s been more than a few I would have loved to opine on.”
in manhasset. Francessa came in to pick up his medication. He stood there talking to the pharmacist about the ncaa tournament for a good 15 minutes. If everywhere he goes people are going to talk sports with him, he might as well get paid for it
and so does everyone else at WFAN. The station has been dead for 15+ years
Fair to feel anyway you’d like but Mike doesn’t suck. His interviews alone are worth listening to even if you hate the rest of him (I think he’s hilarious). Listening to all of these clowns try to do interviews is pathetic.

can he conduct an interview? Yes absolutely. My problem with him begins with his condescending attitude towards the callers. Then, he has a very good knowledge of baseball and after that it drops way off. His interviews would be better (sports other than baseball) if he know more about the X's and O's.
him being a condescending prick is not only warranted but it’s hilarious. He has his faults of course, but there was no one better for an afternoon ride home. He was must listen for anything major, local or nationally.
Still much better than anyone else on either station at any time of day. As for his condescending attitude towards callers, most every time was directed to someone who pretty much had it coming. UConn called it -lots of trolls called in to bust chops (like they do here).
I have a love hate relationship with The Sports Pope. Â
I remember him saying this over and over and yet here we are, almost April, and he's pining for WFAN? So safe to say he has nothing planned and that was all nonsense I guess.
Haven’t listened to the FAN regularly in a long time. But whenever there was big sports news or if I happened to be in the car I’d turn on Francessor. Also loved his Sunday morning NFL Now show. (Heard him a few days before he signed off the FAN and he was reminding everyone how the NFL asked him to change the name of his NFL Now, which he did).
I thought he said he was going to do something else. He should do a podcast or something.
He'd be right back at # 1 if he came back unnannounced tomorrow. Â
I think he's pretty arrogant and rude to callers, but after a big event, i.e Eli's benching, he's must listen radio.
Yes. I listened as a kid in the late 80's early 90's and then for a while in early 2000's. Hadn't listened in ages, but I tuned in for his rants on Eli's benching, which for me were his swan's song.
He was paid a kings ransom for at least 2 decades. The business doesn't support that salary anymore. He left WFAN over money.
Ownership changed and they offered him a new contract that was way less than what he making. He also had lost his TV money. When Carton was arrested he "offered" to stay on to help but "it didn't work out". He thought maybe without Carton he could get the offer increased. It didn't work.
I'm guessing he's realized that the staying at WFAN for less money was the best deal he could get at this point. I didn't listen as much the last few years as I had in the past but when I was in the mood he was always very entertaining. It will be interesting to see if he lowers his price and where if anywhere he winds up. If it's with Simmons that's a deal breaker for me.

Hopefully someone posts the Francessa video with Francessa as Ray Lewis. That was one of the great pieces of art ever created at BBI...
The new show talks about all sports, which is refreshing about it. Mike getting stuck in baseball wasn’t always so hot.
Sure. But the shows are unlikely to let him blather on and call the hosts idiots.

That wasn't created by a BBIer.
I mean Carlin covered football and Scott played it - I don't pay attention to either, but I'd imagine they have an easier time during football season.

It really is terrible. Anyone but them... please. I want to like them, but they are terrible.

My guess is he cuts a deal, Wed-Friday part-time gig.

He s the best listen, not even close, my opinion
Steve Somers at night.
Moved upstate, turned white-collar late 90's. Don't miss the shitty jobs, but definitely miss the radio.
Tell that to Sir Didi
