who can be cut and how much they save. Several guys stand out - Harris, Armstrong, Marshall, Jerry.....
Unless the team needs cap space urgently, I assume Jerry and Armstrong will make it to camp to compete. since their roster money is earned week-by-week, not by surviving to mid-March. Jerry probably needs to win a starting job to avoid getting cut.
With Marshall and (to a lesser extent) Harris, doesn't the team need them to pass physicals to avoid a big termination payment? Marshall's injury was really bad, so the Giants might be on the hook there, especially considering his age and questionable desire.
Rhett Ellison's contract looks pretty bad one year in. But we already know Shurmur loves him, so maybe that situation turns around in 2018. Even if it does, he might need to take a pay cut in 2019.
...without mentioning the cap implications of a failed physical. Maybe I'm wrong about that aspect, or maybe Schwartz just kind of sucks at cap stuff.
Contrary to Schwartz's thesis, I'm also not sure Cody Latimer affects Marshall all that much, unless he suddenly blossoms. In four years with Denver, Latimer was basically Darius Powe. Schwartz: Marshall in danger after Latimer signing. - ( New Window )
Agreed. IMO Latimer was signed primarily for special teams prowess. I expect he replaces Harris as primary gunner.
He's getting 10mm in cash this year and next year as well, it's just in bonuses not salary. No offense to Eric, but that salary page is pretty meaningless in the cap era.

That tells you how much cash they save, not how much cap space they save.
Yes it does, bonus and guaranteed are paid and cannot be recouped. Salary is what you save on the cap.
Where does that page tell you what salaries are guaranteed? For example, Ogletree's 2018 salary of 3mm is guaranteed. If he got cut tomorrow, the Giants wouldn't save a penny of cash in 2018 and his cap hit would be 10mm. His cap hit being on the team in 2018 is only 4.75mm.
I really disagree. It clearly shows which players are immediately a cap issue for a particular year. The salary page is great in anticipating restructures and cuts.
For the full picture, I link to the two best cap profiles from that page that also show the bonus money.

Without the full picture, it doesn't tell you a whole lot.
Taking Ogletree again, he's got a 4mm salary next year so sounds likely he's here no matter how he plays this year. However, he has a 6mm roster bonus on top of that next year. That changes his outlook significantly if he plays poorly this year.

FWIW, I'm not worried about next year.
You are probably right on Marshall and Harris, but I doubt they are both not healed.

Marshall's pay compared to OBJ and SS? Good bye Marshall....

Right on cue, the guy that hates every player on the roster chimes in.
