One of the failures of the Reese era was its transparency of who they liked and what directions they were going with draft picks.
If I were in a position of leadership of an NFL team, I'd obviously gather info from scouts and all possible sources but my thought process would be shared with very few and any information I'd put "out there" (via anything I stated or indicated by action) would be misinformation. I hope Gettleman adheres to this strategy.
On another note, while I prefer a QB with this rare/premium pick, I am okay with a trade down IF AND ONLY IF they believe in Webb. To trade down under some notion that Eli will rebound to an acceptable rate of production is probably inaccurate and certainly a shortsighted notion.
Despite their talent (Nelson/Barkley), I'd rank a draft of a non QB at 2 a distant 3rd in my order of preference.
I hope the fighting continues about a QB, Barkley or trading down until the Goodell reads our selection. Having no one know what Gettleman is going to do is a huge advantage.

well said
The team, just like all of us, are going to hope for a big season from Manning while having a viable option waiting in the wings...whether thats Webb, a draft pick, or both.
but please don't be under some misapprehension that Eli has a meaningful amount of time left such that it would shape your decision making away from landing the next QB w/ this premium pick
Especially considering what he has meant to the franchise.
If Gettleman was sold on not taking a QB, then why didn't he trade with the Jets. They would have to have gave up much more, but I would think they would rather get up to 2 rather than 3.
This gives them much more comfort that no one will jump up in front of them.
This is business, this is not about emotion and feelings. He has been paid extremely well. But his production for quite some time now is not representative of his $ compensation or what I would regard as a QB I want to hitch my wagon to GOING FORWARD (not waxing poetic about past success i.e. SBs). You have to look forward in this and all businesses.

I agree with all except for the "Eli has two good years left". I just don't see it anymore.

not Eli. I love Eli, but he is 37 years old with two good years left. If they believe in Webb, pass on the QB. If they don't trust Webb, pull the trigger on the QB.

Big Eli guy here, but we also have to be realistic that he is not the quarterback he was in 2011. Re tool the offensive line and put him in a position to succeed, I think he has a couple more years left. He is not a West Coast quarterback. Play to his strengths, which is play action, and he can still bring us to the promise land. This should still not stop us from taking a franchise QB at 2.
I have a feeling they are very hot for at least one of these guys and are keeping any information vaulted shut.
If Not they draft QB at #2
Webb is today, and will be on draft day, a complete unknown.

It would base its assessments on:
1 his college career
2 Gettleman (and others) draft assessment last year
3 every team films every practice and NYG may evaluate that film
4 conversations/workouts prior to this draft
I still think we are going QB.
Happen to know that CAR has a stud QB in his prime?
I still think we are going QB.
Yeah, I'd say it is reasonable to think that having a star QB in his prime + a backup QB I trust would prevent a team from grabbing a QB in a premium round.
Oh and by the way, in the Super Bowl Era, quarterbacks have been taken with the first three pics exactly twice. If anyone is arguing that Darnold/Rosen/Allen/Mayfield are even remotely sure things, they are seriously misguided based on this showing...
1999 1. T. Couch, 2. D. McNabb, 3. Akili Smith
1971 1. J. Plunkett, 2. A. Manning, 3. D. Pastorini
Super Bowl Winners: 1. Plunkett (twice - 1980; 1983)
Hall of Famers: 0
Winning Percentage:
- Plunkett .500 (72-72)
- A. Manning .265 (25-101-3)
- D. Pastorini .479 (56-61)
- T. Couch .373 (22-37)
- D. McNabb .614 (98-62-1)
- Akili Smith .176 (3-14)

So Cam Newton, who was coming off major shoulder surgery, prevented them from taking Webb in one of their first 4 picks, despite Gettleman thinking Webb was a great value? Cmon now.

I disagree and I think it's a stretch to suggest. I think the fact that he passed on Webb a bunch of times tells me that he didn't value him as high as you are suggesting.
