We have an above average LT. A Jaguars castoff at LG. A center who probably wouldn't start on any other team. Jerry who doesn't like to get his nose dirty. And a right tackle whose best position might be bagging groceries.

Seriously, Jerry needs to fill the backup role he was hired to do. The other starting guard may come from the draft if not from dumpster diving.

Gettleman tried to get a C (Sullivan) so that Jones would be depth. So I definitely don't see Jones as locked in as the starting center. He's all they have right now, that's all.

Solder is very good.

Losing out on Sullivan was a disappointment. He played very well for the Rams last year and would have been a big upgrade.

I love your optimism!!

I am not a fan of John Jerry, I will admit he played better at LG than at RG. I would prefer he be a back up or gone.
My hope is that Will Hernandez is the starting RG next year or Braden Smith.

Thank you. Would love Will Hernandez as well -- not sure he will be there in round two though.

I started a thread a few days ago asking why he was still on our roster. In my opinion, I think we can put his $2.5 Million cap space to better use. But others on this board politely disagreed with me.

With Sullivan/Jones/Greco, C would have been so much less of a need position.

Giants have a lot of needs. Sullivan offered the opportunity to hold off on drafting a C. We could have crossed C off the "needs" list.

as I appreciate the optimism, but this is right there with the thread that claimed Gettelman is the second best GM is NY Giants history..

Yup, and the focus would have shifted completely to the right side. Now the center position remains a huge question mark.

at left guard when he was switched there (small sample size I know), let him and the new Jags guy compete at LG.

I'm encouraged about is Gettleman recognizing the under-the-radar guys like Sullivan and Omameh.

With the FA moves and currently only 5 picks: Is either a starting caliber G/C or maybe one developmental OT enough or do we still need to cluster picks on OL?

from players that just aren't working out. In the case of the OL, we're talking about Pugh and Richburg.

Sometimes it is tough to let go of what you've got, due to fear of the unknown. But you've got to face facts and have the confidence to move on from what doesn't work.

Nothing against Pugh or Richburg. It just wasn't working here, and the Giants moved on, correctly in my view.

I think Jones is an average center. I mean he's the same if not slightly better than Richburg last year. Richburg got paid.

I saw a try-hard guy who got out-muscled a lot. Perhaps he will get better, but he's awfully small.

Aside from that, I think the effort to sign Sullivan tells us what Gettlman really thinks.

Granted, there isn't anything special out there right now. Everything comes with some risk, but the alternative is John Jerry.

Omama is a downgrade from Pugh and Jones a downgrade from Richburg. That is the league considers Pugh and Richburg > Omama and Jones. Maybe the league is wrong but it's still something to give you pause. Add in Flowers as a question mark at RT and you could say that so far we've upgraded exactly one position on the line from last year's starting group.

Just like the rest of this line the front office is building. Maybe Solder is above average.

Giants can easily win with serviceable IMO. You can't be elite in a year. I'll take serviceable with a running game, healthy ODB/Shepard/Engram, and a good defense.

With yet another handle? Jerry is a weak leak especially in the run game. He is soft and will hopefully be cut after the draft.

Depth player. If we miss out on a Guard in the draft and sign a big-time Center, then I would be more okay with Jerry starting.

Having said that, I hope that Jerry is not the starter and we are going into next season with a stud RG chosen in the first 2 rounds of this years draft.

Also, we are by no means stacked.

I do think with better talent around him, Jones will be jut fine. However, I don't think this line is anywhere near upgraded, except for Solder.

LOL. YES!

DG has improved the OL. But that doesn't mean it's "fixed," or that we are "stacked." That isn't to fault DG. How much more could have done? But we still need a lot of help.

no chance he beats out the younder guys like wheeler and dunker he was a dud when signed the fact they had several duds in more important positions doesnt detract from the fact he is still awful reese seamed to have rose colored glasses where he was concerned i doubt he will get the same from DG

But I am optimistic about LT and LG.

Solder had a bad start (3 sacks allowed in 3 games), but he only allowed 1 sack down the stretch.

I think Omameh can be really good. He did a fantastic job in the playoffs vs. PIT when Fournette ran wild in the first half.

Perhaps it's my rose-colored glasses, but I don't think we're going to be sitting here in a year saying the left side of the OL was an issue for the G-Men in 2018. I think we need more reinforcements for C, RG and RT though.

It's just you...he's an awful, awful football player.

Flat tires and pancakes maybe, that’s about it.

He's strictly a sub. I can't stand seeing him out there. To me, he's the poster boy for their ineffective OL. I can't wait till he's gone.
