If the Giants pass on Barkley and take Rosen.........

sxdxca : 3/20/2018 8:54 pm
They can still get a heck of a RB in Sony Michel in the 2nd round.

He is about 85-90% of what Barkley is , and reminds me a lot of David Wilson.

In fact I think he may be slightly better than Wilson.

Michel combined with Gallman will be a good duo , and make us forget about Barkley.

I also believe Rosen , combined with Michel , is a stronger unit , then just Barkley alone.

I provided a link of one of his games , take a look.

Michel isn't as good as Guice...
Torrag : 3/20/2018 8:59 pm : link
...and his turnover ratio is alarmingly bad. Also didn't run as fast as I'd like for a guy that is a height/weight tweener. I'd like Guice in a trade up or wait until Round 3 for our RB.
He's not an everydown back
Beer Man : 3/20/2018 9:00 pm : link
Plus I wouldn't write-off Perkins just yet as the change of pace back.
Rashaad Penny
Mark from Jersey : 3/20/2018 9:01 pm : link
would be nice...but early 2nd may be a little too early. Maybe early 3rd if he is still there. He ran REALLY well at the combine. Maybe his lack of career catches hurts him but has underrated hands IMO. Would be thrilled if we land him.
Guice probably goes late first IMO.

Hence the trade up scenario.
Michel vs Barkey stats.....
sxdxca : 3/20/2018 9:03 pm : link
Michel

2015 1100 YDS 5.2 AVG
2016 840 YDS 5.5 AVG
2017 1127 YDS 7.9 AVG

Barkley

2015 1076 YDS 5.9 AVG
2016 1496 YDS 5.5 AVG
2017 1271 YDS 5.9 AVG

Yeah I definitely believe Sony Michel combined with Rosen is 10 times stronger of a duo , then just Barkely alone.

This is what I would do if I was the GM. I would be maximizing the value of my draft...
I want Rosen too
Dmartin : 3/20/2018 9:03 pm : link
And then we can get a great RB in round 2. Would be fine with those two guys or Nick Chubb in the third.
I don't get

How any Giant fan can be comfortable going from Iron Man Eli to a guy who either didn't play in or didn't finish 12 of his last 20 games at UCLA.

I know for me even with a shitty O Line the last thing I ever think about when watching a game is Eli getting hurt, but I know I'd be holding my breath every time Rosen drops back to pass even with a better O Line.

Perkins was handed the starting role and rushed for 2.2 ypc compared to 4.3 for Gallman and 4.4 for Darkwa.

I don't like to write guys off, but that's an incredibly poor showing by Perkins.

(Note: Eli also rushed for 2.2 ypc.)

Comparing college stats can be misleading.

Looking at this, you'd think Sony Michel and Saquon Barkley were similar prospects, which is not even close to true.
Being a UGA alum I’m partial to Michel in second
big canoe jeff : 3/20/2018 9:13 pm : link
Would be happy with Guice Nick Chubb the Auburn back or Penny
As Pat Kirwin said today on Sirius rbs shelf life are 5-7 years QB’s 10-15 he and Jim Miller think Giants should take A QB
If Giants take Barkley they better run him hard for 5 years
I like Ronald Jones III
CromartiesKid21 : 3/20/2018 9:16 pm : link
the best of the 2nd tier backs and hoping hes there early 3rd

Mdgiantsfan : 3/20/2018 9:19 pm : link
Comparing Michel to Wilson is not a good selling point 😂. I do like Michel and would love to be able to get him in the 2nd round if they don’t snag an Olineman.
Chubb
cokeduplt : 3/20/2018 9:27 pm : link
Is the most underrated running back in the draft would love him in the third
Build the OL First
Samiam : 3/20/2018 9:33 pm : link
More important than RB plus the current group of RBs will look much better with decent blocking
Target G/T in the 2nd round
BigBlue1013 : 3/20/2018 9:38 pm : link
G- Isiah Wynn, Braden Smith, Will Hernandez.

T- Kolton Miller, Jamarco Jones, Desmond Harrison, Orlando Brown.
Guice is not special..

I would agree, any of those would be a nice to help build the OL for the future.

Some have said that Rosen
Dave on the UWS : 3/20/2018 9:55 pm : link
ia the best pure thrower since Luck. I know about the concussions but he talent is so impressive I think you take the chance. IF he stays healthy, he can be great isn’t that what you want at #2?

YES TOTALLY

I want an OL in the 2nd and 3rd.
How did Perkins compare
Doomster : 3/20/2018 10:30 pm : link
in his first year to Gallman's first year?

There looked very similar, except Perkins had a little more wiggle to him.....neither was head and shoulders above the other....

Hard to understand what happened to Perkins last season....was it Perkins? Did Mac giving him the job have an effect on him? Or was it the OL that sucked out Perkins' confidence?

That's a BIG if,IMO.

He hasn't shown he can stay on the field in college. What makes anyone think he'll be able to in the pros where the guys are for the most part, bigger, stronger and faster?
I like the thought process behind looking at more than just one pick
ChaChing : 3/20/2018 10:44 pm : link
but you can't compare Rosen & Michel / 2 picks to just Barkley / 1. The total pkg of 2 early picks is typically greater than one especially without a trade down where #2 becomes several picks (in that case it's more meaningful to comp uneven #s of picks)

But if you add the Rnd 2 choice after Barkley and compare those duos you've got something. Would Barkley & Allen / Jackson / Rudolph (for example) be better? It also doesn't have to be QB - so what about Barkley & Hernandez? That's more useful being a more even comp
The scouts don't seem to like him
rasbutant : 3/20/2018 11:02 pm : link
but when i watch Jaylen Samuels, i think i'm watching a 1st round RB. They list him as WR or H-back or TE, but i think he is a RB.

So let me think about what your saying...

Really? Wilson was a 1st rd pick , who got injured. But if he stayed healthy , he was lethal on special teams , and a pretty dang good back.

Very fast straight line speed , with a good cut back. It was a shame he injured his neck. We coulda had something , imho...

No doubt...I'd think it's a tough exercise even for the scouts / coaches / GMs otherwise they'd always get it right

And I know 0 about the actual players so couldn't say. I'm just curious how Barkley and an OL, or even D-player like a solid CB, or a cover LB would look in comparison (obv you'd prefer an all-rounder, but just being realistic about later picks like w/ Michel in your OP)
Wilson
nyballa0891 : 3/21/2018 2:41 am : link
Is vastly overrated on here. Michel has ball security issues and is an unlikely everydown back

Because heres the sad reality. Most fans don't know what the hell they are talking about. They are playing fantasy football scenarios where you "draft for need" and stupid things like that. They just view Rosen and see his Madden stats and don't even blink at concussion issues, health issues, desire issues. They just see oh he should have 90 throwing power and 95 accuracy so TAKE HIM!!

Fact is DG and the Giants brass are going to be waging their careers/reputation based on that pick. It is downright risky and malpractice to take a guy as risky as Rosen or allen at that #2 spot when there is a home run RB or a ransom trade offer available. It just is.
Even if you don't like Michel
Big Rick in FL : 3/21/2018 7:03 am : link
There are plenty of RBs to choose from. It's maybe the deepest RB class ever. You got Guice, Chubb, Jones, Michel, Penny, Freeman, Kerryon Johnson, Nyheim Hines, Rodney Anderson. There is just too many good RBs to draft one in the top 5 when you need a QB.

Not to mention we have Wayne Gallman who looked pretty good behind a shitty OL last year.
When you are sitting in the 2nd slot..
EricJ : 3/21/2018 7:27 am : link
you don't need much misdirection. You can take anyone you want. The only time misdirection may matter is if you WANT to trade down and you are going to lead teams to believe that you may select the guy they want....forcing some kind of trade offer.
DG's decision will be made after you hear Goodell

I think Michel is a real good RB but fumbles too much for my liking. I'm with you on the other RBs you mentioned, and I'd put Jones from USC in that mix as well.
