The offseason and free-agency decisions made by the Giants suggest to Phil Simms that the team is gearing up to make one more Super Bowl run behind quarterback Eli Manning in 2018. In that case, Simms thinks the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft is a no-brainer: Running back Saquon Barkley. But if that's not the case? Well, then things get interesting for general manager Dave Gettleman. "If you are looking anything into the future, if (Wyoming quarterback) Josh Allen is sitting there and they don't take him, I would think they will get a ransom for Josh Allen," Simms told Adam Schein on SiriusXM's Mad Dog Sports Radio. "If Cleveland takes (USC quarterback) Sam Darnold or Barkley, and Josh Allen is sitting there, that will be interesting. "I think Cleveland will take take a quarterback first. So the Giants are going to be sitting there, and if Josh Allen is there and Barkley is there, I think a lot of teams are going to come flying up there to try and get that pick and to get Josh Allen, I think." |
Much worse than even hiring McAdoo.
The talent level simply is not there. Eli is 37, he's not going to suddenly spring back to 2012 Eli. And I love Eli, but it's just time.
Hopefully Gettleman realizes that this team has been rotten for a while now and looks at 2016 as a fluke, which it was. How that team made the playoffs with the offense it had I have no idea.
Stop all the nonsense and pick the best QB available
Because people evaluate things differently.. Allen is more athletic.. and you dont know how intelligent Allen is unless you interviewed him and let him do some work on a whiteboard for you..

Why would anyone tale Allen over Rosen. Sure Allen has a bigger arm. But Rosen's arm is plenty strong. Plus Rosen has all the other stuff a QB needs in spades. He throws with accuracy, anticipation into tight windows and he is highly intelligent. I will take the intellectual Rosen over the aww shucks cowpoke Allen any day.

athleticism in a qb is overrated. who do you want - Newton, Vick, RG3 or Peyton, Brees, Brady.
Get the guy who can read a defense and stick it into a tight window as the receiver breaks. Allen has shown none of this ability. Rosen has. Plus Rosen is a fine athlete. He has a great arm and his tape shows he can evade traffic. I'm not saying Allen is a sure bust. Maybe he will be the best ever. But Rosen has a better chance to be great.
I'd hold out for their 1st next year and then make the trade back to 3. We'd still get the guy we want (assuming DG doesn't want a QB) and have a bonus premium pick next year.
He won't have to. He will hit the wide open receiver.
No tight window:
Yup, zero accuracy.
What Allen has that Rosen does not:

If he has enough time.

Always love when people tilt things to the extreme to try and make their point...
How about Aaron Rodgers, Steve Young, Elway or Roethlisberger,Russell Wilson, Rodger THE DODGER Staubach..
None of those guys have won anything.. oh wait YES they have..

Like this?
Swing pass, hello.
I'm honestly just screwing around here but this throw right here is awful. He has time, under no pressure, has his feet set, and he just uncorks a throw that is not only under thrown, but inside, and the safety makes the interception. That ball has to be deeper and to the sideline shoulder of his receiver. He misses this throw by about SEVEN YARDS.

Sure .. and all these guys can win standing in the pocket. they don't rely on their athleticism first. Allen hasn't demonstrated he can win with a pass first approach. The scouting book on him is that he looks to run when in trouble rather than eyes downfield to complete the pass.

all you are demonstrating is your gift for making gifs.. congrats.. i can make a reel that makes Josh Allen look worlds better than Tom Brady..
The one thing about Allen I am very confident about tho is that he'll be a lot better than what a lot of people on this board seem to expect from him.

We'll see. I didn't make the gifs, I found them and posted. Rosen right now is a Ford Focus and so many people here think he's a Mercedes Benz. We'll all find out in time.
I agree with poster above, Allen has a lot of risk but I think he'll be loads better than what some on BBI are saying. He needs some time.

if what he's taking from this NFL season is that the Giants are close to making a super bowl run before Eli's 40th birthday.
They re nt as far off as you think
They've got a lot to prove before that theory holds water. Then the matter of looking up at two other teams in their own division.
LOL Mr Simms has spent the last 40 yrs on the inside of the NFL as a HOF QB (arguably) and a top analyst, both Highly paid respected NFL positions. You on the other hand have gained all your knowledge or lack there of from people exactly like or less accomplished then him. And yet you have the temerity to think him stupid?? Understand? if Philip Simms is stupid yet his accomplishments and knowledge of the game both on the field and in the booth are paramount to yours then your opinions i'm afraid are completely without merit and can be of much better use to wipe away your daily excrement. Stupid is as stupid does.
p.s.--Have you noticed how guys like Sy'56, Matt Waldman, and the draftniks who aren't themselves represented by agents seem to prefer Josh Rosen and Baker Mayfield?
Allen is the enigma. When it was reported that he had no QB coach in college, it makes you wonder what his potential is with proper coaching. Right now, he has gotten by with his own athletic ability. I am curious to see him in the right situation and am interested in following his development. I just don't see the Giants taking the gamble at #2 with him. Some team will be tempted.
Maybe because Rosen either didn't play in or didn't finish 12 of his last 20 games at UCLA. If that's how he fared in college what makes anyone think he'll fare better in the pros?
Rosen's intellectual strength isn't worth much on the trainers table.
May not be a fan, but yesterday said he will most likely be his top rated QB.
I would never pick him over Barkley...at least not for another couple years...or possibly next year.
But, if Barkley does get taken number one...or even if we force ourselves to settle for a QB at 2, I wouldn't be too upset if the choice was Allen.
Why because he disagrees with you? Wow!
