What unsigned NYG UFA’s would you like to return?

FranknWeezer : 3/20/2018 11:19 pm
This doesn’t include guys under contract like Marshall, Jerry and Harris. These UFA guys are already gone, technically. Some have garnered little to no outside interest in the first part of free agency. Any you’d like to bring back, and if so, why?

For me, CB Ross Cockrell. We are paper thin at CB, and he played aggressively and acquitted himself well last year after we traded a late round pick for him.

(Hat tip to Eric for compiling the list)

QB Geno Smith
RB Orleans Darkwa
RB Shane Vereen
WR Tavarres King
OL Justin Pugh (Signed by Cardinals; 5-Years, $45 million)
OC Weston Richburg (Signed by 49ers; 5-Years, $47.5 million)
OG D.J. Fluker (Signed by Seahawks)
OG John Greco (Re-signed by Giants; 1-Year, $1.015 million salary)
DE Kerry Wynn (Re-signed by Giants; 1-Year)
DT Jay Bromley
LB Devon Kennard (Signed by Lions; 3-Years, $18.75 million)
LB Jonathan Casillas
LB Keenan Robinson
LB Mark Herzlich (Re-signed by Giants; 1-Year, $880,000)
LB Kelvin Sheppard
LB Akeem Ayers
CB Ross Cockrell
CB Darryl Morris
S Nat Berhe

Maybe King.
Cockrell as a no brainer
AcesUp : 3/20/2018 11:36 pm : link
OL still needs a lot of work but CB is our biggest immediate need after that. This guy was our 2nd best corner last year, he has to be the priority right now. Look at our roster. Do you trust Apple? His potential is still in question and who knows if he could ever integrate into this lockerroom after last year. Who is our nickle corner? Deayon? Do you want him on the field for 70+ percent of snaps? What if there's an injury? This position is a huge problem right now.
King and Darkwa

are jags.. i really just dont understand the BBI love affair with Darkwa..
Cockrell

Just look at all those linebackers.
Would be fine with a lot of these guys if they come cheap.
jogo1 : 3/21/2018 12:07 am : link
Darkwa, Vereen, Bromley, Robinson, Sheppard could all be useful bottom-of-the-roster guys if they come cheap. Cockrell would be a starter as it stands now.
If you expand the list by a year
Giantsfan79 : 3/21/2018 12:24 am : link
I wouldn't mind a reunion with Hankins.
for those that want Robinson back
Giantsfan79 : 3/21/2018 12:28 am : link
remember his best skillset was his coverage ability and that's Ogletree's best skill as well.
None
Vanzetti : 3/21/2018 12:39 am : link
Sheppard might be a good backup in a 3-4. Robinson if he were not always injured.

But really I would probably just let them all walk. I don’t share the high opinion that many have of Cockrell.

Ross Cockrell - Highest graded Giant CB by PFF
Orleans Darkwa - Led all Giant RBs in all rushing stats
Geno Smith - We should have Eli and 3 competing QBs in camp

You're going to have Eli, Webb and the QB we draft at #2
There are your 3 QB's

Logic says to sign Cockrell, he should have already been
signed unless there is a problem like he's asking for
too much money or he isn't a 'team fit'.

pretty sad that a long list
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 3/21/2018 6:09 am : link
and other than Cockrell none of them seem like worthwhile to return. Ther is 3-12 right there. I thought that Darryl Morris played pretty well in the patched together secondary at the end of last year. Might be thinking of someone else.

I don't want Geno back under any circumstance. If they don't take a QB high, I would just want them to bring in a camp arm.
Cockrell would be great...
Capt. Don : 3/21/2018 6:27 am : link
He was fantastic the last 6-7 games and we are painfully thin at CB.

I also like King more than most.
Kelvin Sheppard

isn’t a great player . He’s a limited athlete. Still he’s a team first player and a tough guy. He’s a favorite of mine among the group of average players . You are always going to have some of those . As for the others , I really don’t care much in either direction. Just remember the guys coming in are going to be similar in the sense that they will be undrafted free agents, second chancers and minimal investment , veteran free agents. Gettleman needs 2 solid draft classes to begin to bring down the number of transitories .

Reese’s rent-an-offensive line lasted exactly one season as I predicted this time last year. Talented linemen who reach their walk year leave almost every time . The goal should be to get a group of five under multi-year contracts . They needn’t (shouldn’t) be all Blue Bloods. Gettleman professed to be particularly astute acquiring obscure talent that can play. Time for him to shine .
Cockrell and Bromley
mavric : 3/21/2018 7:15 am : link
Cockrell is a no brainer (IMHO)
Bromley is a solid backup if he would re-sign on the cheap
Fluker (gone) and Cockrell
Victor in CT : 3/21/2018 7:57 am : link
the rest are JAGs at best. Most aren't even that.
Cockrell
Chris684 : 3/21/2018 8:08 am : link
King and Bromley only if very cheap.
Darkwa, Cockreii, King, Bromley, maybe Ayers and Robinson
Ivan15 : 3/21/2018 8:11 am : link
since we are talking about the 90-man roster.

Mostly defensive players who might fit the hybrid D.

I would like to see Bromley playing in the 3-4 DE position and Ayers might fit in this D also.
Darkwa ran pretty well behind a weak line.
Ira : 3/21/2018 8:14 am : link
Cockrell was a very solid corner.
Cockrill, King, Darkwa
Andy in Halifax : 3/21/2018 8:20 am : link
Three depth players in areas we have little depth at the moment.
Darkwa & Cockerell
Rudy5757 : 3/21/2018 8:31 am : link
The rest should remain Gas. I would like Hankins back...lol.

Agreed, but it also might be Eli, Davis and a developmental QB taken in a lower round (if the Giants feel Webb would be at least an adequate backup for a year.)
Bring back
gogiants : 3/21/2018 10:41 am : link
You are correct. They are most likely to draft a QB and at most would only keep 3. So bringing back Geno does not make sense.
None....
Doomster : 3/21/2018 11:11 am : link
I would not overpay for Cockrell....he is a more zone corner than one on one...

I agree I like Shepard he really excels in getting guys lined up where they should be and he’s a tough guy ...he played well coming in cold and probably not in great football shape ... I also like k.Robinson and Cockrell
