I know there are a lot of old folk people on here like myself. Holy moly I cant believe this show is going to be back on the air!
I remember when this show debuted to go on the air back in the late 80s. Are you gonna watch the reboot? What will you think? If anything that sort of thing has become the norm for most of TV. TV shows like that wont be "cornerstone" anymore. With shows like Shameless and stuff. We get it, youre all proud gutter trash!
Care to discuss?
You are spot on. Shows now a days is all about how trashy you can be and shows of old were about family.
Every show or every movie does it. I stopped watching Shameless because the ridiculous storylines just became ordinary.
I should catch up on Shameless and brush up on all of the Roseanne details because I have no work today or tomorrow.
The women in my family laughed.
For those who hail it's return, Enjoy!!!
I will continue to watch William Macy and the gang in Shameless
When DJ stole the car? Roseanne beat his ass and then 3 seconds later it was about her and how her dad hit her.
Roseanne's character was nothing but an annoying narcissist in that show. The ego of that character, and especially written in other characters was ridiculous.

I can see not liking it but garbage? Nope. It was one of the highest rated show. I think it was even #1 at one point. It was well written at the time when slime tv took over.
He had a heart attack at the end of the 8th season during Darlene's wedding I believe, then they won the lottery in the last episode of that season.
Roseanne wrote it off in her book that the Connors never won the lottery, leaving it that Dan cheating on her in the show was a metaphor for him dying in her real world.
I watched it a lot to kill time but I wasn't a big fan. I didn't really like Roseanne her self. She was a little too smarmy, even in real life. And the outside drama with Arnold took up too much of the airwaves.
I'm not sure about watching the reboot. Maybe out of curiosity. But, from the commercial, everybody looks like the got wasting disease. When you have a picture of people in your head, aging really sucks. Also, the picture I have in my head of Darlene now is really Leslie Winkle.
Isn't "This is Us" the biggest network hit of the past 2 years. I admittly never saw it, but doesn't that revolve around a strong core family?
Aside from that, ABC has about 5 hit family sitcoms. Even though this year was its last season, wasn't "The Middle" pretty much the same show as Roseanne (lowerclass middle American's struggle to raise a family)
I'll give Roseanne a shot. I grew up watching it (except the last couple of seasons). But I get annoyed with the "Everything was so much cleaner and nicer in the past" narrative, especially when its built on BS.
No idea what's changed.
It seems people are nostalgic for shit they found annoying from their past. I think time dulls how annoying it was.
So, I guess that means I'll watch.
And The Middle is way better than Roseanne.

Also, keeping with the them of modern day family comedies (not necessarily Modern Family), I have to say that my favorite comedy right now, also in its last season, I believe, is the Goldbergs. Not sure why. but I really love that show.

lol go watch that and start a thread on that then, quit whining like Jackie Harris
Retconning (retroactive continuity) is the name for the device used to change or contradict facts / characters / storylines that break continuity from what was previously established.

LOL she's reason alone to watch the reboot.

Absolutely. The Middle is an underrated show.

I don't watch a lot of TV, but my youngest and I watch The Middle, The Goldbergs and Modern Family (she's 10, so some of the subtlety of Modern Family is lost on her which is a good thing), but I enjoy our time together and I think the shows all have qualities that make me look forward to her asking me "Dad, can we watch the Goldberg's now".
It's not our only time together, I coach her hockey team, but this is just down time, and I like it.
Maybe we'll watch Roseanne too, I think the Middle is done this year. My older kids never did this, other than Family Guy reruns and my wife put the kibosh on that one.

Thanks, I forgot how annoying Jackie was too. All her failed relationships and the drama.

The Goldbergs is the shit. Especially the first two seasons. I love it because they nail the old 80s trends that I loved as a kid.
If you grew up in the 80's, especially in the Northeast in area with a lot of Jewish families, the Goldberg's nails it. everything except the Philly sports stuff. Odds are you knew someone's mom like the Goldberg's mom and the dad too.
if I grew up in the Midwest maybe Roseanne nailed that, and I said I watched it. I just found Roseanne annoying. No intent to offend you tom arnold.
Show evolved well, some great talent to be sure - in later years it got weird and probably would have been better off hanging it up a couple of seasons earlier.
That said, looking forward to the reboot. Presuming the same writers, I expect it to do well.
Oh I TOTALLY get the Goldbergs because that is my land. Just we did it better in real life.
I am 50 years old with 12 kids

So you only wanted comments from people who agree with you? I see now, I should have expected this given the climate of today's society.
My apologies for assuming a thread about a TV show wasn't only looking for violent agreement.
Sorry. We believe in tradition, family, and ...
sorry to ruin your Roseanne lovefest. enjoy your day.

I've got 3, kinda wish we started earlier and had one or two more.
12 is bananas.
That’s funny! I just said the same thing in his other thread. Same posting style and doesn’t change it up.

Nothing wrong with having a lot of kids but the amount of times that you bring it up in threads is ridiculous.
Agree. I stopped watching after the daughter went to college and the mom stayed over nite. The mom is just too much.

...yes, first couple of seasons killed - it's not easy to keep something that great going (see Malcolm in the Middle for reference). Goldbergs was fantastic - the tie in's to actual family vid's hilarious - great characters and jokes - but it has more than run it's course - I find it much more uncomfortable than funny these days. Cringeworthy-jump-the-shark in a big way.

Shameless was funny for maybe the first year or so but then it became just a Roseanne/Six Feet Under/everything else rip off. Nothin bunch a bunch of smug weird "different" people who just have an attitude for the sake of being different and poor.
I did like Married with Children a lot but they tried so much to over emphasize what a "shit show" the family was. Roseanne and their characters was better written. I cared more about catching an episode to see what was going on in the Connor's life before Id like to see Peg rag on Al for the 90th time for nothing in one episode.
With Roseanne, they took her character through many stages and places (her different jobs, her house, Jackie's apartment, the places she hung out at). For the time the show was released, I thought the sets were more realistic and rather impressive for back then!
I thought there was the right amount of people in Roseanne where the family wasnt the most popular in town but they had enough people come and go through the house to make them seem lively.
I agree actually. But I keep watching and hoping for a diamond in the rough type episode. Was just watching tonight and looked at my wife and said, “They’ve run out of material.” And she agreed. It’s sad when something good goes to shat.
I will watch but not the night they air, except for the one that airs this Tuesday night.
I'm not sure it'll be great for Roseanne - but I think a show like Seinfeld could pump out a lot of really funny episodes based around more current tech stuff like smartphones and Uber.
Dating sites, rideshares... so many things they could do.
The flip-flop in society since the 30 years the show first aired will be interesting. Also they really fucked up the ending of the original show - especially with that 9th season entirely. I guess it's better than leaving it on and never going away like The Simpsons.
Sorry. We believe in tradition, family, and ...
...and obviously not condoms.
