Drafting a HOF Player

DG has refrenced the idea that you're aiming at Drafting a Great Player at 2.

I've dismissed a trade down because they obviously turned down a very rich Jets Trade Down...and I've speculated that its because they would draft their own qb at the 2nd pick

Maybe it's even more simple than that---he just wont trade away the opportunity no draft a HOF candidate at 2.... no matter the trade bait.
Or he feels that there just isn't a HF worthy player at #2

and feels he can get a couple more years out of Eli. Take the ransom in that case.
Draft day

The closer we get to draft day, the better the offers for the #2 pick will be.

...are you speculating that the Giants turned down a very rich Jets offer or was that reported somewhere?
Only issue with that

Is identifying the HOF prospect is basically impossible. For those who want to say Barkley or Nelson, great running back and lineman prospects tank all the time. Reggie Bush was going to be the Michael Jordan of football. Robert Gallery was a stone cold lock as a perennial All Pro. Those are just two names that come to mind. Sure thing prospects miss.

hard to believe that the Jets didn't try to get to #2

its a much better place to be than at #3 if you want a QB. I thought there was some comment somewhere that they tried but that could be speculation.

We would think that. We also have to remember to doubt the Jets want headlines if they're qb doesnt pan out, that the cross town Big Brother fleeced them in the deal.

And more recently, Greg Robinson.
The Giants will trust the process

The goal is to make the team better. They will ultimately choose the avenue that, in the long term, makes the team better.

And drafting a HOF player matters little if the rest of the team is mediocre.

^ THIS.

"You don't take a player at 2 unless you can picture him wearing the Gold Jacket".
Ergo if neither Barkley or the QBs are HoF worthy, then gather more picks.

Yes...I would speculate that the Jets would have chased #2 with their bucket of gold before they surrendered it for #3---If McCagnon didn't do that he'd be grossly incompetent

I don't know that anyone had as much Draft Stock to offer as the Jets...who could have gone a bit richer for the #2
