If We Go QB #2, Do We Keep Eli

Giants1956 : 3/21/2018 9:02 am
Eli has been the face of the team since he was drafted.
But, if he starts out 'slow' I think this year he must
sit. I think Webb & the 'New QB' must get reps.

I don't think we will re sign Eli 2019 if we draft a QB.

Should we let Eli go after the draft.

I'm all for loyalty and if any player deserves it
it's ELi.

BUT, the fans are entitled to loyalty also. The team
has not been good since we won the SB. If it comes down
to offending Eli, which I don't think it will, I think
the team must look forward in the same way they drafted
Eli when they had a very servicable Kerry Collins.

Maybe Eli's future should be with his old coach TC
in Jacksonville.

Eli will be the starting quarterback in 2018
Eli is signed thru

2019.
And yes you keep Eli, especially if they build him a decent line.
He as just paid a $5M roster bonus

He will be around in 2018.

What do you do if his 'problem' is more than OL?

Section, I presume that you are not in favor of QB at #2
It appears as though that is the plan.

Give Eli another year and see what happens. If Eli plays really well, we can always let him play out his contract or even trade him for assets.

In the beginning of the offseason, I kind of wanted to move on from Eli now and let the rookie QB play, but dep made a good point....I think it would be best to do what we did in 2004 and let Eli play until we are out of contention and then let the rookie take over.

...he just received a $5m RB. Sitting or starting, he isn't leaving.
Taking a QB at #2 wouldn't be about Eli.
mittenedman : 3/21/2018 9:32 am : link
It would be about Webb. The QB could be here 10-15 years. Eli can play as long as he wants and then the #2 pick can step in.

But the Giants like Webb - and they should.

I think Shurmur can get some excellent ball from this kid. Consider what Shurmur said he wants in a QB and then "the coach's son" Webb. They will hit it off big time.

yes.

absolutely.

The following year depends on he play this year. Then he is a Free Agent and the rookie takes over (assuming he is good enough).

It's really is the prefect timeline, i believe.
Does Eli Get the Whole Year

I thought the question assumed that Eli starts out poorly. If that is the case how can you let the guy waste another year of developing the next QB. Obviously if Eli can play to his level of several years ago, it is a no-brainer, but what many seem not to want to address, is what happens if the past few years were not due to a poor line, bad coach or injuries. What happens if the guy is simply getting too old and cannot perform at an acceptable level?
Well,
Doomster : 3/21/2018 11:03 am : link
the draft will come BEFORE you "find out about Webb".

March 18th came, Eli got his money, Giants are not going to throw away 5M this year.....could be gone next year though....all depends how Eli plays this year.....if the OL shows improvement and Eli doesn't, the handwriting will be on the wall in Dallas....

Big question is, who we actually will take at #2.....that will finally disclose the mindset of our new GM....
I think the plan
JFIB : 3/21/2018 11:19 am : link
Should include Eli as the starter in 18 and likely released in 19 to take advantage of the cap space to re-sign OBJ. I really have no idea if the front office has Webb in mind to take over or wants to spend this years #2 on Eli's replacement. Ideally they think Webb is the man to take over in 2019 and we can go in a different direction with this years #2 but I don't know how they feel about Webb.

Hopefully if they role with Webb they are correct because it's a gamble.

Worst case scenario is they dgont take a QB,and it turns out that Webb sucks.

If we go QB #2 eli will start at the beginning of the year but I could see them making the switch mid year if we aren't winning games and the O isn't clicking
Yes

Gives the kid time to learn the system. I think you start him after we fall out of playoff contention.
Giants need to tread
NikkiMac : 3/21/2018 6:43 pm : link
Carefully because the last thing they need is to rebuild the culture only to have it torn apart with a QB controversy Imo
