Looking at recent history, quite a few young QBs have been able to jump in I'm and have success. Dak Prescott is a good example of a lower draft choice but has done very well. If Dak had been on the Giants, I don't think he has as much success. On Dallas he had a good solid team where he wasn't required to do it himself. Great line, great run game, good defense. It looks easy for him.
On the other side of the coin, you have your David Carr, and essentially every QB drafted by bad teams. They fail. They get ruined. To me, you get your key building blocks in first before throwing a young QB to the wolves.
To me, the best strategy is to focus on improving the line, the run game, see what you have in Webb, maybe hedge your bets with a good QB later in the draft or next one. Think about putting whoever will be the heir apparent into a winnable situation
In 2019 when the line is in better shape then the 1st round QB could take over similar to Carson Palmer in Cincy.
