I think the Michael Strahan comparisons are fair... not necessarily he will definitely have the same type of career, but Strahan did everything really well, could play the run, rush the passer, played hard, but wasn't an "explosive" quick-twitch type.
but another two-way DE that lacked explosion is JPP.
The fear of having a guy who is mismatched (talent vs scheme) for our defense now with two other HIGHLY paid DE's makes this a tough one for me to be excited about.

is a very creative, aggressive DC so I’m not too worried about “fit” as he seems like a DC that finds a place for great pass rushers within a hybrid scheme.
RE: Yeah, the 3-4 focus makes Chubb a confusing fit. He'd be perfect Â
I'd much rather they take this guy than Barkley at 2. The only way the Giants won the last two SBs was with THREE very good pass rushers. TWO won't get it done.
And nothing against Barkley -- though I think he's more of a larger Reggie Bush, than an 25 carry bell cow -- like Gurlie or Elliott -- the draft is DEEP at RB. But not at pass rusher.
And while there is nothing official that they are changing to a full time 3-4 defense, even if there was, you could fit Chubb into it.
That said, I still want Rosen.
Here's a video of Mayock interviewing Chubb at his pro day Â
I would take is Nick Chubb running back, But enough of these Chubb threads people really think the Giants will pass on QB, Barkley and one of the best offensive lineman to come out of the draft in a while to take Bradley Chubb? Sorry I don’t see it nor do I see it being that big of a need over QB, RB, OL LB and CB so just stop with this guy they aren’t taking him at 2, if you want to address DE in the later rounds then fine but this idea the Giants will pass on QB with Eli not playing well the last few years and is 37 years old , Barkley when we don't have a running back besides Gallman and Stewart and pass on Nelson when we still have question marks on the oline is frigin comical, a majority of this fan base would go absolutely bonkers if it were the selection at 2
The only difference these days is whether you're in a 2 pt. stance or a 3 pt. stance.
Who was the team that was interested in JPP a couple years ago? The Cards. They offered him $11M for 1 year. Here are some recent quotes from Bruce Arians on JPP, OV and Bettcher's D:
Quote:
Back in 2016 when Jason Pierre-Paul signed a one-year deal to remain a member of the New York Giants, the Arizona Cardinals were interested in signing him.
Then-head coach Bruce Arians confirmed in a January 2018 interview “heck yeah, we really went after him.”
Arians sees new defensive coordinator James Bettcher using Pierre-Paul similarly to how he used Chandler Jones in Arizona, namely as a 3-4 outside linebacker, which would make the transition to that scheme seamless. Jones collected 28 sacks in his two seasons in Bettcher’s scheme, including a league-leading 17 last season.
"What he did with Chandler Jones was amazing," Arians said. "You drop into coverage some, but the majority of the time you’re rushing the passer."
For fans worried about where that would leave fellow star defensive end Olivier Vernon, Arians thinks that will work itself out as well.
“(Bettcher will) find a spot for them,” Arians said. “Nickel defense is 70 percent of the game anyway, so they’re going to be playing a 4-2 anyway. They’ll be put in their natural position. It gives them a position to grow into and get more sacks.”
Sounds like Arians thinks JPP will be in that Elephant ROLB spot and Vernon will be the "other" edge player. Chubb has the talent to be a stud at ROLB in this scheme and that's where you want a premier player.
And most of the time the Giants will in a subpackage using a 4-man front.
if the Giants were keeping the 4-3. He's the prototype of what the Giants have looked for a DE the last 20 years.
Why he cannot have success in a3-4? When the NYG will still use four man fronts in sub packages and adjustments?
It's not that he can't have success. A player that good can be successful in multiple systems. It's just that for me, he's best suited for a 4-3 and that's where his talents provide the most value to a team.

We are on the same page.
My preference du jour is: Rosen/Darnold > Chubb > Trade down...
I assume you would be in the Chubb over Nelson crowd?

Yes.
Glad we moved away from the 4-3, because it does take 20+ years to find a Strahan. Funny thing is now we have Chubb staring us in the face.

Well, after Strahan, we did find Osi, Tuck and pre-fireworks JPP.
And we haven't really moved away yet, not according to the personnel on the roster.

It's almost a superhuman task to defend the rush well and get after the QB for a decade lining up against a 320 lb linemen every snap.

Cardinals targeted JPP - ( New Window )
But it would also mean we have a replacement in place so we can dump JPP next year.

would mean the Giants are spending $40 million dollars worth of cap hit in 2018 on one position among three players.
