Jeff Hornacek has one year left on his contract, but good luck finding league observers who believe he will survive to see it out.
The former Knicks guard Mark Jackson keeps coming up as a hot name to succeed Hornacek, amid a growing belief the Knicks' new front-office chief - Scott Perry - will want to install his own hand-picked choice heading into next season.
It's difficult to fault Hornacek for much of the chaos that has engulfed the Knicks during his two seasons in charge. But there's no avoiding the fact he was a Phil Jackson selection, which could well doom him now that the organization seems intent on cutting every non-Porzingian tie to the Phil era as possible.
Another name to file away here: The former Cleveland coach David Blatt has a longstanding relationship with the Knicks' president Steve Mills dating to their days as Princeton teammates. You wonder if that'll finally earn Blatt his first meaningful look from an N.B.A. franchise since the Cavaliers fired him in January 2016 while sporting a record of 30-11.

what a disaster
It's truly amazing how it all unfolded. Phil went from the godly NBA figure that was going to bring the Knicks back relevance only to turn into an absolute joke. Only on the Knicks can one of the most prominent figures in the NBA with 11 rings be turned into a laughing stock.
eh, Phil's lack of success as an exec was first guessed by many. He had zero direct experience building a roster, running a draft, executing trades, negotiating contracts, or managing the cap. And then he compounded that by agreeing to retain Mills, an empty suit who's even more unqualified than him, in a prominent role.
you're right Enzo. Me included. He had Jerry West and Jerry Krause doing all that. He only had to coach stacked rosters. It's a different skill set that very few make the transition to from coach to successful executive.
Go out and hire a coach who can actually lure REAL talent, else this team will continue to go no where fast
One of the best coaches in history of college basketball
Aside from the past scandal I think it would be a home run for the Knicks

Other than one season early on with the Knicks he never was very successful coaching at the NBA level. Not sure he would be a great option for this team at this time.

Here's a fun Ben Simmons stat:
If he played for:
IND
TOR
NYK
LAC
MEM
ATL
MIA
CHA
UTA
ORL
...he would already be the franchise leader in triple-doubles.

I don't think it is coincidence that Porzingis started to struggle when hardaway went out...
He won't see $12 per. More like sub $10. Don't want him on a multi year deal. Doesn't make sense in NY.
Yes no hope, maybe do us all a favor then and go become a nets fan, thanks
I agree with this. I think the Knicks without Noah and Hardaway on the books would be viewed a whole lot differently.

But didnt give Noah that deal Id be fine with his tenure. His unprofessional rants on Twitter were bad but didnt really harm the franchise long term and I cant kill him for missing on a few trades or second round picks. KP draft was a boon. I just wish we could take back that Noah deal. Oh well... just pray the new regime doesnt do anything stupid and they need to hit some doubles in the next two drafts if they dont hit hrs. Then they need to sign the lucky fa or two in 2019.

Considering the deals older vet SGs have gotten (Bazemore, Eric Gordon, Fournier), THJR's deal isn't that bad. If anything, Lee's deal is becoming a burden as he has no long term future and teams aren't desparate to trade for average vets with a hot buyout market each year.
Bulls 2nd round pick
Quote:
looks dumb as shit now. If Kanter doesn't opt out, then what the hell did the Melo deal do positively? I guess we get a trial on Mudiay, but he will have to just blow everyone out of the water to warrant an extension.
Bulls 2nd round pick
Is a 2nd round pick worth locking up a potential max slot for? There's like an 80%+ chance that 2nd round pick doesn't amount to anything, less than 5% we get a starter probably.
I realize they were never going to get a pile of picks and/or young guys, but it seems like they prioritized "win now" players in the return. Giving themselves a self imposed deadline (media day) was definitely dumb.

They are not signing anyone this summer anyway..
He's a shooting guard who shoots 31% on threes and plays no defense. He's terrible.
in a vacuum, maybe. But was his contract the right move for this particular team given the realities of this roster and how close (or how far) they are away from contending? Or even being decent?
There's no chance he opts in though right?

They'll be equally as shitty next year too so what does the year matter? If another team poaches Randle from the Lakers ill be fuming
Which guard options? I guess Young and SGA? I probably take the Bridgeses over Young.

He is averaging 18 4 and 3, he was playing very well and so was the team and then he got hurt, he was playing very well as the 2nd guy to porzingis...

So is DeRozan terrible? Shoots 30 percent from 3.

This isn't the problem.

I'm all for tanking. But you have on the roster the kind of player that you tank in the hopes of getting, so you can't just take a flamethrower to the roster and be a 10 win team for years until you win a few lotteries, or else you lose the young building block that's supposed to be part of the long term solution because he's sick of losing games and leaves for a contender.
Not saying I think TH was a brilliant signing, but he's young, he's paid about what he's worth according to the league, and he can be part of a solution. The money only matters once you realize that he is what that contract represents: a midrange-quality SG.

great point! Let's compare him to Dwyane Wade while we're at it!
You defend Hardaway Jr as vigorously as if you were Hardaway Sr. It's kind of hilarious how much effort you expend pumping up such a mediocre at best player.
Im with you there 100%. Betting on UK guys in the NBA is as safe of a bet as you can make.

Greg you only hate him because his last name is hardaway...
If it was any other player and he gave you 18 4 and 3 you would be happy..
Fact is he was playing very well with kp as the 2nd option but you hate him so much you just fail to admit it..
