... it would appear that a Barkley/Beckham/Engram combo would be absolutely lethal (particularly with a seasoned veteran QB and a good left tackle). However, if the Giants really are unsure about committing a big contract to Beckham, that would make me re-think picking Barkley at 2, and then, consequently, pick the best QB or trade down for Nelson and some picks and start the whole rebuilding thing in earnest.
That being said, considering the signing of a 30 year old LT along with giving a nod to a battle-tested 37 year old QB, the Giants should be all in to compete for the playoffs and beyond for the next two years or so. Its not as far-fetched as a lot of people think considering that this was a team that many had Super Bowl aspirations only 7 months ago.
If Barkley comes as advertised (no reason to believe that he shouldn't), putting him with a talent like Beckham and a real good player like Engram (not to mention what it would open up for Sheppard) would arguably be the best group of skill players in the NFL. But (as it always seems these days) the key here is Beckham. If you're not committed to ride with him, all bets are off and Barkley becomes part of a long term re-build and, I agree, its probably not best expenditure of the #2 pick.
Crazy as it seems, the Giants may have a chance to put something really special together here. But its all based on swallowing hard and committing to Beckham. If you ready to do that, then draft a possibly transcendent RB, put with him the user-talented WR and give Eli (who still has a few bullets left) a chance here to orchestrate the offense.
Carpe Diem. Take the shot now while you have this chance. It may mot come again for a while....
Fan is short for "fanatic".
I'm not sure that many people (here) had "Super Bowl aspirations" for this team seven months ago means a whole lot.
Change that and we are a completely different team. Suddenly we get production out of our skilled receivers
Yep, and we currently have the equivalent of a WR3 built out of popsicle sticks and school paste.
But if Beckham isn't part of the equation, then pick your QB of the future (or stockpile picks hoping you find some good guys) and set yourself up to contend in 3-5 years...if it all works out, of course...
Sure, why not. Yeah Odell is arguably the best WR in the sport but a high first round pick could be anything! How exciting to trade young, proven talent for a lottery ticket.
Do we really think placing the ball in Davis Webb's hands after this season, Eli's last with us?
Take one of the QB's while we have an opportunity to get one?
It's not as crazy an idea as many make it out to be.

The question is are any of these QB's worth the 2nd pick?

We need a QB. I love Barkley, but we need to think about the long-term health of the franchise.

That's been the question all along. It's amazing how many people here refuse to recognize it.
yeah but the team has all the leverage. Is he going to sit out and leave $18-20 million on the table? Cousins just did it for 2 yrs and it turned out pretty good for him, and he's average to me. Beckham's talent is elite.
Maybe he would sit out. He might be that immature/foolish. If he displayed better judgement and behavior, he might already have his long term deal sewn up.
