WHOOPS...missed Tony Boselli! Still a very low percentage, though.
And in 2008,the Dolphins took Jake Long over Matt Ryan. Perfect example of being afraid to pull the trigger on a legit qb only to end up reaching for one that shouldn't have been a top pick at all out of desperation. Giants may have an eerily similar future in store.
Do you think the Saints wish they'd taken him over George Rogers? Other than his 1,600+ rookie year he under-delivered.
Will the Jets ever get a clue?

Fortunately for the Giants - Bum Phillips was coaching the Saints that year, and he clearly was desperate to recreate the success he had in Houston with Earl Campbell by drafting a RB. Not sure if LT is there at #2 if that Phillips-Saints-Earl Campbell thinking us all there.
On another note - that 1981 draft was loaded - LT, Jackson, Lott, Long, Easley, etc. a- all HOF players

Pretty sure there were reports at the time that the Saints were the only team that would not have taken Taylor first.

I just don't get this. Don't you think that the Chargers wished they had taken Charles Woodson, Randy Moss, or Alan Faneca over the "legit QB" Ryan Leaf in 1998?
The point is you don't know if the QBs available at 2 are "legit" on March 21, 2018. Only with hindsight can you know that. It comes down to a lot of factors, and yes, position value is one of them, the importance of the QB is on of them, but risk and overall grade are there too.
I don't mind a QB, but the people speaking in absolutes are just ridiculous. The Giants don't HAVE to go one direction over another here. It will come down to a LOT more study and analysis than you or I have done, and I've done a lot.
Hearst had 10000 scrimmage yards and 39 TDs over his very good NFL career.
Mirer passed for 12000 yards with a 50-76 TDs to INTs, while playing for 5 teams in 8 seasons and compiling a 24-44 record.
At pick 8, HOFer Willie Roaf was taken. At pick 9, Lincoln Kennedy (did you guys know that Zach Banner is his son, drafted last year?). At pick 10, HOFer Jerome Bettis was taken. Btw, Bettis played 13 seasons, most of which were good seasons.
Mark Brunell was taken in that same draft at pick #118.
The point is, to get it right, not take 'x' position. The 2nd point is, if you're in the trade down camp, that's ok, you can still have the gold jacket guys available to you.
Love the back to back G picks in '84 and '85. What a waste...Steinkuhler. LOFL.
Fralic, on the other hand, was a very good G...
Charles Rogers looked like he was on his way to becoming an elite WR during his rookie season until he was hurt after like 5 or 6 games. That stings for the lions as they took him over Andre Johnson.

Agreed. Jake Long was supposed to be a sure thing "gold jacket" LT. He was a multiple time pro bowler but he was never the top LT in football as most agreed that he would have been better on the right side. I don't want to look back in a few years wishing that we had taken Rosen or Darnold.
I would take my chances with the #2 pick.
