Eric: FTR Mike Shula is also there. I think its really interesting that Abrams is there. He's a cap guy with little personnel experience. I have a theory that the Giants brought in the 66-year-old Gettleman to manage the transition from the Eli era to whatever comes next with the idea that 4-5 years down the road Abrams who they reportedly really like takes over at GM once he gets a little more personnel experience. Just a theory though
and in the rain too, he goes #1 if the Browns want him.
I am almost convinced that the Browns are going to trade their #1 since they have #4 as well. Too much pressure to be right, at #1. They can still get their franchise QB at 4 and use their swapped pick for anyone they choose. They would have two 1st round picks next year as well.
A. Rosen
B. Barkley
C. Trade down but likely nowhere in the top 10 because lack of trade partners inside of the top 10 (Buf, Ari, Miami would be most likely trade partners IMO)

I'm convinced the Browns have locked onto Darnold with their #1 pick after his pro day. Can't see anyway they consider trading it away.

long thought that the only purpose of all the chatter that the Giants openly love Barkley from their closest sources (Papa, Dottino, Jones, etc.) would be to try and goat the Browns into taking Barkley 1. Its really the only game-plan the Giants can try and execute to try and manipulate the draft to drop the QB they like (Darnold?) down to them. They need to make the Browns feel like the only chance they can get Barkley is at 1 and hope the Browns like the 3 other QB's equally while they can get the pick of the QB's.

I also thought this the entire time. DG doesn't have much more time left. Abrams would get a good education from 2 GMs that where successful at drafting 2 different skillsets. DG obviously in the trenches (Reese did fine with the defensive line, not the Offense) and Reese with the skills players.
To the Browns, does that mean they are taking the best QB out of the two between Darnold and Rosen? For all those raving about Rosen, why isn't he the consensus #1 guy?
I know I know. Before all of you say, its the Browns and how can you take what they do seriously, but havent heard people's actual thoughts on why Rosen isn't going #1 when it sounds like, per BBI, he is the best QB in this draft.
RE: Darnold just said that he had dinner with the giants Â
the Browns might like more than one QB equally, and the Giants may love Darnold - and to look for a possible swap of the #1 and #2 overall picks. Said it was just an idea, but Louis Riddick thought he knew more than he as letting on. Actually having a good discussion on NFL Live.

Not farfetched. If Giants love Darnold. What would it cost?

Could cost a 2. No thanks
There aren't enough picks to value a franchise qb. If all it costs is a 2 and the Giants love him, seems to be a no brainer. Does anyone remember and/or care what the Giants gave up for Eli?
Chris Mara ... every time I hear his name I cringe ... Â
QB is the most important position on the field, you get one for 5 years on a rookie contract and you use the savings from Eli's contract on linemen next year.
You're all nuts if you wouldn't give up a 2nd round guard or CB for a potential franchise QB.
RE: Chris Mara ... every time I hear his name I cringe ... Â
I wish he would get his own real job. Nepotism never works. There is a rule I've always followed in business life:
"I'm not hiring you if I can't fire you."
You know that Art Rooney Jr. was the Steelers' personnel director during their dynasty years, right? Ran the drafts that collected all those Hall of Famers?
Look what Accorsi did in 04. Hr had a strong conviction about Eli. So he made sure he got his guy. Yeah any of these guys could bust (Barkley too!), but come April 26 if Gettleman has a strong conviction about one of these guys he needs to make it happen. If he gets there and they are just “in he mix”, than I think you go in another direction and continue to develop Webb.
QBs are different animals. I don’t think you pick one because he’s the highest rated player on your board. That’s why the value chart is not relevant when you’re talking QBs.
The Browns GM John Dorsey apparently gave an anonymous interview back in October before he was GM indicating he would not draft Rosen due to his attitude. He was subsequently outed by the author as being the GM interviewed.
They then selected a guy to head their draft, SCott McCoughlan, that also was on record as being against Rosen due to these “attitude” issues. Which is funny because he is openly in love with Baker Mayfield who has been arrested and several antics on the field.
This is why people think Browns wont take Rosen at #1. It doesnt appear to be about his talent throwing the football.

Tony Pauline never claimed to have interviewed (or ever spoken with) John Dorsey. At the time of the USC-UCLA game, Pauline posted an item in which he stated that there were two NFL GMs who had said to "stay away" from Rosen. But neither then or at any other time would Pauline give any hint how he allegedly "heard" this information.
Dorsey was unemployed at the time of the USC-UCLA game. When he was hired as Browns GM, Pauline claimed he was one of the GMs referred to in the earlier piece he had posted.
When Dorsey was asked about all this at the Senior Bowl by other reporters, he essentially called Pauline a liar. And that is not a trivial thing to do. Because if Pauline could actually produce someone who could confirm Dorsey making such a comment, Dorsey would look even worse.
But Pauline, of course, never responded to Dorsey's denial.
Pauline is also the one who said Norwell to Giants was "done deal."
They just blew up their ' cone of silence' by having those guys there, unless they were all at Rosen's too(don't think so).
As much as SD has interesting potential, a trade up means even fewer picks this/ next year; would mean more FAs and less cap control from homegrown. That idea does not thrill me, but neither did the deal for Eli; not that I didn't want him(which I did since his Jr yr @ Ole Miss.) but just when I was OK with Rivers and keeping picks, then the mood change again.
In DG I trust.
The Giants need to make everyone uneasy about who the like/don't like.
Maybe they can convince Cleveland to come up to #2 from #4 for either Barkley or Chubb?
OR
Convince Cleveland they need to take Barkley at #1 (unlikely) because the Giants might take him if they don't.
It's a big game of Liar's Poker, and the Giants are putting their best bluffs out there right now.

I think this theory falls apart because the Browns signed Hyde. He's still young and coming off a very solid, quiet year in San Fran...

I think Dick Haley was really the talent guy behind the Steelers ascent...
was at Rosen's Pro Day and was seen talking with Rosen on the sidelines for quite a bit..
He was also at Mayfield's Pro day and they have a private workout scheduled with him as well.
Small point: I'm 99% sure Shula was not at Rosen's Pro Day last week. He was confirmed at Okla State's pro day that same day (day after Oklahoma's) and Stillwater to L.A. would be a tough same day commute. Photos of Rosen with Shula were from combine.
Larger point (if you're responding to "old man" ): the whole Giants group that was in L.A. for Darnold today almost certainly was present for NYG's private workout with Rosen yesterday.
UCLA's pro day came at the peak of free agency and Giants were focused on that.
I thought they were both fired.
Take that back... was HOPING they were both fired.
Agreed. We won't get a shot at taking him, unless Cleveland decides to gamble on Allen's upside.
That's the question. I think the Browns are leaning towards Darnold but they are in love with Allen's upside.
I thought they were both fired.

Abrams is a well-respected capologist. And what would BBI do without Chris Mara to demonize?

Totally agree.
I think If this happens then we run to podium and draft Darnold. Darnold will either be a Brown or a Giant.. my .02

That's funny; Mar Kay Cabot said Browns took him to dinner last night.
Maybe he sat through two dinners, picking at his food.
Put him on the scale.
Monday actually. Last night with the Jets.
Not farfetched. If Giants love Darnold. What would it cost?

Ooops... I take that back. I was confusing Abrams with Ross! As for Chris Mara... I'll just refrain from venting my spleen anymore on this guy.

If they think Darnold is that good, I guestion their judgment. Besides his shaky mechanics, he’s a turnover machine.
