The Giants do not have to deceive anyone. They are picking 2nd in the draft, not 9th or 10th. There is only 1 team in front of them, and I think it is pretty obvious that the Browns are taking a QB, likely Darnold.
Who the Browns take has NOTHING to do with what information the Giants put out. The Browns hired several very smart talent evaluators who will make a decision based on their own beliefs, not a decision based off of the Giants moves/rumors.
Every move the Giants make does not have to be a smokescreen. If they go to a pro day or have a private workout, they are doing it to gather information on a player who they would consider. They are not doing it to have some crazy reverse psychology effect that influences the Browns decision makers.
But hiding your intentions is a must.
If the Giants don't intend to trade down, if they convince the Browns they are drafting someone else, then the Browns may risk not taking a guy thinking the Giants and Jets will pass on him. (Giants could have someone they covet fall into their laps by duping the Browns).
More likely is that if the Giants trade down a few spots, they still could get their guy if no one has a clue who they are drafting.
The problem for the Giants is that they have done the reverse...advertised their intentions only to watch teams trade up in front of us.

I guess the only smoke screen that makes sense is trying to get the Browns to take Barkley at #1, but I don't think the Browns are dumb enough to pass on a QB once again.
Let's wake up here, okay?
It's happened before to the Giants, going all the way back to the 1980s.
They never announce who they are drafting but everyone in the media always seems to know. And that's what is happening again with Barkley this year.
I don't agree. I have to imagine their is a smoke screen campaign using media contacts. If not, I'd be hugely disappointed...
Take a look at the "Giants may trade up" rumor that just got posted.
The Giants can not let folks know what they are thinking. They can maximize their position that way.
Can we agree that there is a concerted smoke sscreen effort happening now? Last week we were talking about Chubb and Nelson, right?
It is my sincere hope that the Giants are FINALLY engaging in the chess match. More will be revealed.

who on the Giants has said they are drafting? It is all media conjecture that the Giants are drafting Barkley. They just sent their entire team (other than Gettleman) to watch Rosen and Darnold, and only had a few at Barkley's pro day. They really haven't signaled anything to suggest they are definitely drafting Barkley.

If anything like the coaching hiring this year by them, then no the media doesn't know like one would believe..js
The Giants absolutely like ALL of Barkley, CHubb and Nelson, and believe that Eli does have a few good years left, how much they like them or believe that about eli remains to be seen, but they're being truthful.

Who says the guy we really want isnt Darnold?
Their looming to trade down, then they are looking to trade up.
What else could one conclude other than a smokscreen?
When a beat writer says that, that doesn't mean they have insider information. They're connecting the dots between team need and likely to be available player. Just like they do every year. It still doesn't mean they actually know that's the case.
That made me laugh...lover the poker description...
