I am Team Barkley

Section131 : 3/21/2018 3:00 pm
This won't change anybody's opinion but I'll be the first Giants fan to buy that Barkley 26 jersey. He's going to be an all-time great for Big Blue along the likes of Rodney Hampton- a bell cow. Salivating at the thought of a weapon in the backfield and a weapon at WR and a weapon at TE. Eight in the box? Good luck stopping OBJ. Double team OBJ? Good luck stopping Barkley. He can even catch the Eli overthrows!!! 4 Minute offense up by 4? No problem anymore! And the best part? We have a competent offensive mind at Head Coach who will utilize all these weapons against any defense we're up against. Speaking of defense, we should improve if for no other reason we won't be on the field as much anymore. Our guys need to breathe on the sidelines. Oh yea, Barkley allows them to do that too! Wow wow wow, the Barkley possibilities are endless... he even returns kicks. Special Teams! I didn't even know we had Special Teams with the Giants. Man oh man is he going to be something special for us. If only DG does the right thing at 2!

"no QB" HA-HA. Oh, and the o-line is already much improved from last year (considering we draft one or two more). Nice try though.

The team has a QB and a very good one...put the right pieces around him and watch what happens.A great/consistent running game will cure a lot of this teams problems on both side of the ball.

Even the most diehard Eli fan has to acknowledge he only has 1-2 years left...right!?

Eli can still play. He's going to make a lot of you eat crow. That's the disconnect. I believe that the giants think he still has a lot left in the tank also. The line will be much better and w Beckham, engram, Barkley and Sheppard our weapons are as good as any team in the league

If you go qb, and sit him for 2 years, its a disaster. The new nfl dictates these kids play right away. If the giants do rebound this year, and eli plays well, he's going to finish out his contract as a minimum
Rodney Hampton???

I can certainly see this side of the debate. IMO if we don't take a QB, it's because DG and PS don't think any of the guys are better than what they have in Webb. Which is a big leap of faith, admittedly.
Barkley would be exciting to watch...
Jarvis : 3/21/2018 3:17 pm : link
and i wouldn't mind drafting him. However, if you look at the top rushes in NFL history, there is not a lot of sustained success when it comes to winning. Combination of the limited impact of a single skill position player coupled with the brevity of their careers (for example, Ladanian Tomlison and Drew Brees were in the same daft. Both hall of fame players. Brees is still playing at a high level, Tomlison is retired and really hasn't been impactful since 2007, which is 10 season ago).

And how many Super Bowls has Brees been in? One? He's a great player for sure but that's not reason enough to be afraid of Barkley. How many Super Bowls did John Elway win before Terrell Davis showed up? How many great running backs did Dan Marino have? How many Super Bowls did he win? You can spin it anyway you want. Barkley though, is a STUD.
I want Barkley
Knee of Theismann : 3/21/2018 3:23 pm : link
And I want our 2nd and 3rd round picks to BOTH be O-Line! I really believe with all those weapons and a legitimate offensive line, Eli + Shurmur can make this a high-powered offense.

Sure, spend any remaining FA money and picks on defense, but on defense I believe we have enough big contracts and high draft picks to say that they deserve another shot at piecing it together with a new scheme/coach in Bettcher (plus getting more rest on the sideline thanks to our shiny new and improved offense).
Good idea,

were you born in 1998? Hanpton was tremendous. He had won the job in the 1990 SB year and broke his leg in the playoffs. THen came the Ray Handley disaster, ditto Reeves and no QB. YOu blaming Hampton for having no offense, Reeves having no imagination and dismantling the GIants defense?

Rodney Hampton was a great back in his early years
Greg from LI : 3/21/2018 3:27 pm : link
But, between the knee injury and his lack of commitment to keeping himself in shape, his prime was pretty short. And, yes, playing for Dan Reeves in an offense run by Dave Brown certainly did him no favors either.

He was awesome! A bull. Barkley will be 100x better! He's Marshall Faulk but better. He's better than any of these 4 QBs.

Section,

I agree, i am not arguing that Barkley isn't a stud at all. I am not even counting super bowls. I am just talking about sustained success over a career. Most of the top RBs even played for multiple teams a lot of times switching teams in their physical prime. My point with Brees vs Tomlinson wasn't to say that Brees has more Super Bowls it was just the longevity of the position leads to more sustained success assuming both players are good (or studs). Like i said, i really like Barkley..hard not to. Just putting a different "spin" on it for discussion.

As well. Draft a G in rnd 2 and maybe 3, then go get a CB to help the defense.

Pretty solid off season

Barkley
MotownGIANTS : 3/21/2018 4:00 pm : link
makes the job easier for Eli/Webb/etc. OBJ and EE. plus he has good blitz pickup skills as well for a young dude.

Teams will not be able to simply go deep cover to help against OBJ Barkley will force them to out a man in the box. Not to mention Eli is at his best with play-action.

We did some things to help the OL but we still need offensive weapons for the GROUND game.

He is not Reggie Bush at all. He is totally an every-down back.
If he only turns out to be Rodney Hampton this a.is a wasted pick
Rudy5757 : 3/21/2018 4:15 pm : link
Hampton was one of my favorites but not worth a #2 pick. He wasn't even the best th in that draft. The game has changed, tbs are not that valuable anymore. His career will be wasted with the end of Elis career who I think is done and the search for our new QB. He might get us some wins but our team needs a guy that will still be good for longer than most tbs are.

Top rbs make about $8 mil a year. Norwalk just signed for over $14 mil. It shows the value of the rbs these days. Drkwa averaged 4.4 yards per carry in our O last year. Elliott for Dallas behind their line only averaged 4.1. Pass on the flashy HB and get the DE or the Guard. Better value for longevity and cap cost. Best value is QB if you draft one. Barkley may be the best player in the draft but not worth it for the position he plays.
I am all in on Barkley too.

Roll the dice with Manning and Webb.
Strong Defense, running game, and experienced QB.
Get Manning 1 more ring.

I am fine
PaulN : 3/21/2018 5:20 pm : link
If the Giants take a QB at 2 or Barkley at 2. The only thing that makes me a little nervous is that the offensive line would still not be up to par. But the thing that is extremely appealing is if we took Barkley, with Him, Beckham, and Engram, they would have 3 elite talents on the field, as a rookie with no other weapons available and with a horrible offensive line, Engram still put up good numbers, with a year under his belt, and with a little better offensive line, and having Beckham and Barkley on the field with him, it makes for a very intriguing scenario on the field.
Jets
PaulN : 3/21/2018 5:34 pm : link
Could offer us their third rounder and next seasons 1st or other offers like this. They would move up for the QB, we would get Barkley then and the extra picks. Buffalo is going to make a huge bid to us, this is a no doubter, if they do, then why wouldn't the Jets, LOL, I guess the answer to that could be because they are the Jets. LOL. It's a thought though.
If the Giants had a good OL
Rflairr : 3/21/2018 6:50 pm : link
and QB wasn’t 37 and declining. I would be interested. But that’s not the case, his selection would be stupid for this team.

+1,000. The only similarity is that they both are RBs and if the Giants take him they’d both be #2 picks overall.

I’m all in on Barkley too. The QBs in this draft don’t do it for me. He’s the BPA in this draft, hands down, who can score a TD whenever he touches the ball. If the Giants go for one of the QBs over Barkley it will be a forced pick.

I'd take that Jets deal and go from 2-3 if DG doesn't want a QB at 2.

I can also see Buffalo make that huge bid to Cleveland for their #4 because I don't think DG trades out of the top five and isn't interested in their #'s 12 and 20. Cleveland might be once they get their guy at 1or they might even be open to listening to Denver moving up to 4.

If he doesn't want a QB at 2, I'd love to see DG trade back once to the Jets at 3, and if it is Buffalo or Denver at 4, trade back once more to them. Get extra picks while still still getting his guy at 4, after QBs go 1-2-3. If Cleveland is still at 4, take his guy at 3 after trading back once to the Jets.

Either way,DG is sitting in a position of strength,IMO and I'd love to see him get his guy (whoever it is) while also walking away with some picks either in this draft or next year's.
