OBJ to Indy for the 6th pick in the draft?
NYG would own the 2nd & 6th pick in the draft & for argument purposes let’s say the draft Saquon Barkley & Quentin Nelson.
Indy gets an incredible WR talent to pair with Luck & the Giants now have a strong OL with a potential dynamic RB.
Again, this is purely hypothetical and by no means am I saying the Giants should trade OBJ. But, people bring up Eli in regards to the ‘win now’ argument, but I think OBJ plays into that as well.
My main focus is sustainable success and adding Barkley + Nelson would set up any QB post Manning to have success.
Would you make this hypothetical trade?
And damn you to hell if you would think of leaving us (and Eli) with more of Travis King and Roger Lewis on the field.
It's not that I wouldn't consider trading him, I just wouldn't do it for the #6 pick. If you gave me a slew of the Bills picks that's a different story. I would need there 12, both 2nd round picks and a 3.
I'd look into Deforest Buckner, currently playing in the 4-3.
On top of it, now that you traded OBJ, opposing defenses will stack the line. That would be okay -- only if you have a good QB. Okay you have Eli-- but you have a declining ELi.
You're better off proposing the trade to Cleveland in which Cleveland would draft a QB with their 1st and 4th picks and then trade the 4th pick (the 4th pick eventually going to the Giants) to the Giants for their 2nd pick (Barkley) then the Giants get more for trading a 2 pick for a 4 pick.
In reality by the Giants choosing Barkley they block Cleveland from getting him. That would be extremely risky. Cleveland could say "screw you" and go in a different direction.
Also, all that, AND a big pay day upcoming. Can they find a WR or 2, who with EE,SS,SB?, TEs, can create an exciting and successful O that puts up TDs and wins games under a PS/MS offensive scheme such that OBJ was a nice memory?
Risk/Reward.
Sure is tempting if you love the player and his play, but fear a suspension(s) because of his history of 'nonconformity?'.
As GM I would only decide after a very long talk with OBJ, and how I felt after it. Whatever the consensus of opinion with the 6+/- key FO people, thats my move. If it is only me, I'm leaning to make the move pre conversation.
Its about the organization, and the team, not a player.
For the sixth pick overall it's a no brainer. I doubt Indy would accept it.
Sean think of it this way:
OBJ has played his entire career on a team that has had zero running game, a horrible offensive line, no real WR 2 to take any heat off, and until last year no threat at TE. For the last two years, he has played under a completely unimaginative vanilla offense with horrid play calling.
Now considering that look at what the hell the kid accomplished then imagine what he is going to be able to do when we can utilize play-action because we finally have a line that can block semi-decently and a RB who is actually a threat (I'm not even thinking Barkley, the second tier RBs are really good) plus a TE with a year under his belt.
What OBJ has done given what he had to work with is amazing
This team needs more elite talent, not less.
I wouldn’t draft SB and Nelson. I’d still go QB and Nelson or Chubb and Nelson.
Me neither.
Probably the best offensive player to ever wear this uniform and half the base is spending their free time conjuring up every possible scenario where we can get rid of him.
This offense has been downright abysmal without him on the field. Let's get him healthy and figure out a way to actually protect our QB and run the football and watch what happens.
We'd need to fill two outside roles and we already have plenty of other holes to fill.
You'd be trading Beckham for picks that you'd wind up using 1 or two of on WR anyway with the hope that you get someone even remotely as talented.
It seems counterproductive and pointless.

Utterly ridiculous

I get that I have made clear that I don't like the guy, but let's not pretend there hasn't been exaggeration on the other side. The guy isn't even the best in the league at his position, and hasn't even been a first team All Pro.
The guy clearly has great ability, but I would take it easy with the proclamations. Let's see him earn it first.

For the record, I think you're really undervaluing OBJ
And with picks #32 and #33 who do you pick? I like your idea, but I would want a WR and OL with the 2nd round picks.

Mike Lombardi said last week that if the Giants are serious about rebuilding they should trade Beckham.

Its not insane, gmen would get two cap controlled players. It would benefit the salary cap
Enough with the foolishness already.
