“I think it’s gonna be a tough transition going from left tackle to right tackle,’’ Pugh said Wednesday on WFAN. “He’s exclusively played left tackle his entire career, so he’s really got to work on it this offseason. Just keep working his technique. I will say this, Ereck Flowers is the strongest player on that team right now, I guarantee it — pound for pound the strongest guy on that team.’’
“It’s definitely tough, coming from a guy that played left tackle all throughout college, he played for three years in the NFL, going over to the right side, it’s gonna be a big adjustment for him,” Pugh said. “I can speak just from personal experience. He’s got to look forward to the challenge. He’s got to go into it and embrace it, because if he goes into it with the attitude ‘This isn’t fair, that’s not what I signed up for,’ he’s gonna dig himself into a deeper hole. I know Ereck is going to be working his butt off in the offseason. I wish him nothing but the best and the rest of the offensive line.’ |
OK, just one year, but still ... get the facts right.

Relax, it's Justin Pugh answering a question, not a Big J journalist writing an article.
He can just pretend it's opposite day.
He’s shown the desire. He’s just immature.
Short of that, I have no confidence that Flowers will succeed at right tackle. The very best you can hope for is the same kind of inconsistency that we saw at left tackle. And there will be a learning curve just to reach that level.
I honestly think, based on reports, Erik worked his ass off last off season.
I have students that work their asses off, and due to other factors, don't get a whole lot better.
Flowers drops his hands when the rusher begin turning the short corner on him. A good tackle pushes out in those circumstances, at least causing the rusher to go wider, giving the quarterback a chance to move up. So I’m not sure the movement to RT will do that much for him. To me his best hope is Guard .
...never rose to the level of his public pronouncements.

Effort isn't his problem, people are pulling that one out of their ass.
By all accounts he put in a lot of effort before last season. His problem is likely between his ears, which admittedly will be a hurdle moving to RT.
Having said all that, he did show some improvement for a stretch last year before regressing.
But of course, black and white are the only colors around here.
He should realize that hes really playing for his career. I think his LT days are over
He was asked a question and answered it. Why do people get so bent out of shape any time a player makes a comment? As someone who has played all over the OL, Pugh's perspective is good to have. Take it for what it's worth.
Giants also have two young prospects too at RT that, hopefully, with a year in the weight program and a year being a pro, could step up too.
He never did that run-blocking? As many here have said, you really are pretty useless with what you post around here.

Wonderful.

Wonderful.
That is probably Flowers' usual attitude and that is why Pugh said it because Pugh knows. I think we should expect a RT disaster if he is starting.

the strongest OLman on the team never popped a DE and stopped him in his tracks?

I saw a lot of him getting pushed around.
re-reading the article in hard copy on the subway this morning ... I think you're right, gidie.
