Charlie Weiss on Opening Drive (Sirius)

jvm52106 : 3/22/2018 8:51 am
just said the Giants are in a great position draft wise. Can trade and get a ton or stay put and grab either QB of future or Barkley. He then said if you want to win now then you have to take Barkley. Said he would help them win games right now.

Just thought it was interesting. He did say the Giants would be hard pressed to say no to Buffalo if they offered:

Two 1's this year and 2 and a 1 and 2 next year.

He did say don't be surprised if the Tackle from Notre Dame doesn't become the better player/value for someone over Nelson the Guard.

Just thought I would share.
I really like McGlinchey too.

jvm52106 : 3/22/2018 8:54 am : link
why he thinks trades between the Giants and Jets are hard because they share a stadium etc and neither team wants the other one to seem like they got the better of the other. If the Giants traded with Jets and they then pick the next great player the Giants will have to deal with that in their face far more than with any other team in the league (outside of in division).

I like McGlinchy

I think that he got a huge boost from playing next to Nelson the last few years.

I think he is an avg RT at best.
Still

wouldn’t trade with Buffalo

I do too, In some ways reminds me of Jumbo Elliott. Not exactly in size or style but a guy who I think people peg as not being able to play LT in the NFL and I think he will be able to. He has technique and and strength. He will adapt and get better week in and week out. Could be a 10 year starter at LT.

Feels most unrefined of QB's is Allen, cleanest is Darnold, Mayfield most baggage off the field but he also says Rosen has some off the field stuff too. Not a ton but he knows the rep that has been talked about.
Weiss also believes
jvm52106 : 3/22/2018 8:59 am : link
the one QB the Giants will not take is Mayfield. Not a Giant type of pick with his off the field issues.

I feel the same.

I can't get that Miami game out of my head. The entire Notre Dame line couldn't handle any of speed rush. I couldn't help thinking, if they are struggling so bad against Miami's athletic D-line, then how the hell are they going to play at the next level.

I know its just one game, but it just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Not really. If they want a QB they will have no problems saying no to Buffalo no matter the offer.

some of these OL types who for whatever reason slip during the draft process even though they were highly regarded throughout most of their career (like a Cam Robinson) end up being available in the late 1st/early 2nd. If McGlinchey is somehow still there at 34 I'd sprint to the podium

I hear you but do you feel the same about Darnold then? He was flat out awful against Ohio St.

There is a big difference between an entire team being undermanned against superior talent. QB's have bad days, and sometimes it's not all on them. I feel like USC as a team got bullied at the point of attack.

The Notre Damn line just getting ripped apart by speed rushers is more of a one on one thing. The tackles were getting crushed 1 on 1. That's a hell of a lot different then the entire team being outmatched.

why would Jets trade the picks to possibly get their 3rd best QB choice.

Again, respect the opinion but I don't think it is that different. We are not talking Cal Berkley vs Ohio St. This is USC.

I think one game in vacuum is not a great way to judge players or teams. But, it does need to be considered as part of the overall evaluation.

However, if Darnold is a turnover machine when faced with pressure and tough defense, then holy shit he is in trouble if he is playing for us. Solder can't change the entire line.

I've posted this numerous times. No way either team would risk it.
Giants fan asking
jvm52106 : 3/22/2018 9:18 am : link
Weiss about how can they pass on Barkley. Weiss says he is 100% believing Barkley should be their pick. He feels that Barkley is a difference maker for the Giants now and he doesn't think any of the QB's this year is really worthy of the top few picks in the draft.

I’m not sure if Charlie Weis is a good QB evaluator. Who has he worked
Ivan15 : 3/22/2018 9:40 am : link
with besides Brady?

I like Shurmur/Shula better.

Doesn't mean he can't have an opinion. He has been around Simms, Hostetler, Bledsoe, Brady... come on...
Off the field issues?
RetroJint : 3/22/2018 10:04 am : link
Why didn’t that disqualify Eli then? Didn’t stop them from resuscitating the career of Kerry Collins. They sort of wet nursed LT, as well. Allowances are made. Ole 1400 SAT is back, better than ever , I see. He’s a guy who ruined m the careers of quarterbacks more than he accomplished anything else.

He has been in the game for years . He was trained by people like Parcells and Belichick so you can’t completely discount what he says . I just don’t like a has-been sliming kids by talking out of his fat ass. As I look back I can only imagine what those years would have been like had Accorsi been able to select Weiss as Giants HC, as was his desire .
if buffalo offers 3 firsts and 2 seconds
GiantsFan84 : 3/22/2018 10:18 am : link
you 100% have to take that offer

FYI- He loves Mayfield. Doesn't think the Giants will draft him. HIs statements were 100% about the Giants thinking.
