I know we are switching to a 3-4, but with the trade of JPP (yes he's not the same player, but he isn't half as bad as he has been made out to be) it now feels like we are in a full rebuild mode.
I would but the evidence is to the contrary. They just made a 30-year old guy the highest paid offensive lineman in the game. They also committed to Eli starting.
It amazes me how fans tend to overrate their own players while criticizing Jerry Reese for doing same. This team was 3-13 last year. The defense sucked from game 1. Total rebuild because JPP was smartly punted? Hardly.

No counter to the Eli argument, but you still need to protect a young QB (see David Carr)!
with a 37 year old QB. The rebuild is complete when Eli moves on. The new LT also buys some time, there had to be a price for Reese failure with the o-line.

I think it is clear they are not in full rebuild but they are not in "win-now" either. I keep hearing Soldier being brought up, but we seem to be forgetting that Soldier was not their first choice -their first choice was a younger player. Soldier represents their back up plan and was the best Oline option on the market at the time. All that shows is that they were serious about upgrading Oline.
As far as Eli goes, they have committed to him for this year, beyond that is unclear. And it is clear the narrative on the QB changed after the benching fiasco. All this suggests is that there is a transition strategy -now how long that strategy covers will not be known until we see what they do at #2. Even if they are planning to draft a QB, planning to have him mentored for a year behind Eli is a perfectly reasonable strategy, and probably the most sensible.
Was also a player alert.
Perform, or gone.
Pugh, Westburg, now JPP.
Has this organization, i.e.,ownership, finally realized that they can not be a player friendly family business, but a business owned by a family(or 2) and operated as a business first, player friendly to a certain level?

Agree completely. Eli, Solder, Stewart, Omameh and Herzlich are not part of a full rebuild. They are simply remaking the team to fit the system and players they want on the field. Very happy to be rid of JPP's contract and did not think his performance warranted the contract. However, the same could be said of Eli and the failure to draft a new QB this year will make me wonder exactly where these guys are going--unless they think Webb is the answer.
He’s 30 on a long term deal. The NFL is a 5 year league.
Does anyone think Solder cant perform at a high level for the next 4 years he is signed?
If the Giants go QB at 1 and Eli starts for one season then you have Nate Solder at LT for 3 years of the next QB. This is bad? Why?
The Rams with a second year Goff signed Andrew Whitworth at 36 years old to start at LT. Guy still delivered an All-Pro season.
I dont see the rationale behind saying Solder means we arent “rebuilding.”
You dont rebuild every position on your team with guys thinking they need to be here for 10 years. Solder can easily be here for 5 years. That’s good enough.
The Giants needed an OL upgrade and they got one. That’s part of the rebuild.
You also rebuild the culture. Its not all - hey lets sign guys who are only 26.
many people focused on things being full rebuilds?
I keep seeing posts about a 2-3 full rebuild but the NFL is a win now league. You maximize your chance to win each year and structure contracts for fluidity in making moves, regardless of if the team is doing well or poorly.
The key is flexibility as you can improve entire units and teams in one year - and we've seen it several times in the recent past, whether it was turning our D around in 2016 or the rotating division winners in divisions like the NFC South and East.

Why are we writing in that he's going to be good for another 5 years? How many lineman play till they're 35?
O'Hara, Snee, McKenzie, Seubert, and Diehl were all done by 32.
In real the thinking. Maybe, just maybe, he does not fit into a 3-4 scheme, in fact you could argue that Vernon does not either, everyone who wanted this switch never thought it through I guess, did you think the current players who played in the 4-3 just moved over, back, or the other side and that is it? WE are lucky to end up with a third round pick for that contract. Three cheer to Gettleman.

I think it's hilarious that you call what the OP barfed out on his keyboard thinking. It's par for his idiotic course. Synapse fires, runs to keyboard, whacks away, hits submit and then it's back to batting a ball of yarn until he sees a squirrel through the window.
- New scheme
- Some team gave the Giants a 3rd rounder for him, in a nice draft.
Profit.
Maybe, maybe not. They really needed a legit LT to walk out on the field at all this year.
This is certainly true. I hate the switch to the 3-4. I think it's a 90's style defense that even Belichek has given up on. But what do I know.

I wonder what the average number of new players per team is?
