Giants press releases are not so flowery anymore

Eric from BBI : Admin : 3/22/2018 11:39 am
We appreciate everything Jason has done for the Giants, general manager Dave Gettleman said. He was a fine player for us, and he helped our franchise win Super Bowl XLVI. We wish him well in the future.

(That's all that was said)
Gettleman seems like a no nonsense

Guy. But I can see it wearing thin quickly if he doesnt put a good product on the field. I like it so far as Im sure most do. The team was a joke last year. But he will need to win to keep up the cut throat ways IMO.
This may be a bit dramatic
bceagle05 : 3/22/2018 11:46 am : link
but is there any chance the Giants identified JPP as one of the leakers last year? Perhaps that hastened his departure.
I really thought JPP
mrvax : 3/22/2018 11:47 am : link
would be cut after this season, not before.
I think they were just shocked that someone was willing
Ten Ton Hammer : 3/22/2018 11:47 am : link
to give them a legitimate asset AND the contract relief. I love the guy, and I would've made the trade too.

Bucs GM Jason Licht: "Jason is an elite-level edge rusher who will make an immediate impact on our defense. We are adding a two-time Pro Bowler who is passionate about the game and has established himself as one of the leagues premier defensive ends...

... Jason is an incredibly hard-working playmaker on the defensive front with a unique skill set that allows him to stay on the field in both rushing and passing situations.
That's

rough? I don't see it. Sure, it's curt, but it wasn't like, 'Don't let the door hit you on the way out JPP.'
I'm not a fan of DG's "tough guy rep"
Ten Ton Hammer : 3/22/2018 11:50 am : link
but I see nothing wrong with what he said. It doesn't sound cold or anything.
the difference
Eric from BBI : Admin : 3/22/2018 11:51 am : link
is that in the past, the Giants would have multiple quotes...I've noticed this offseason they have been pretty terse with their releases.

I know some suspected that at the time, but Id be surprised if it was him. He hasnt always been a happy camper, but did always seem like a professional about things
.

"Listen to me very carefully. There are three ways of doing things around here: the right way, the wrong way, and the way that *I* do it. You understand?"

"fine" player and "helped" us win
bluepepper : 3/22/2018 11:58 am : link
SB 46. That is underselling things. He had Pro Bowl and All-Pro seasons. There's a Lombardi trophy in East Rutherford that wouldn't be there without him. Eli, Cruz and JPP were the main drivers of that bus. When a guy leaves, if anything you should overstate his contributions. Be magnanimous. It's not a huge deal but I'm gonna bet that Mara will chime in at some point with a little more praise.

They probably aren't happy with 3 wins ;)
Bob Papa mentioned on SiriusXM the other morning that "...JPP is not

long for the Giants."

He didn't give any additional information the support the statement, but it appears now that he had picked up on something that was going on in the building.

Probably

Working several other moves, trade talks, FA level 2 or 3 signings, player and pick evaluations.

Good Point! DG has been very busy and doesn't have time to sugar coat things;)

No question is play wasnt were it should be. Some would argue that the lack of a 3rd viable de left him (and Vernon) on he field too much.

Problem for the bucs is they wont have much behind him either.

Good move for us. His best days are behind him and the injuries are mounting
I Like DG & His Approach

very Parcells like. Make things uncomfortable and demand performance.

Has this imbecile watched video of the Giants -Bucs last season. The game that saw JPP handled by tight ends. Unreal. Maybe Kimberly Jones provided inside info that he was hurt that game.

The only game where he stood out was against Wonderlic Watson -whatever his name was -and Denver when they changed tackles 3 times .
the contract extension he signed..
2cents : 3/22/2018 12:58 pm : link
is all the recognition he needs. man, this eli benching last year has really sensitized people around here.
This thread is a real reach.
Mr. Bungle : 3/22/2018 12:59 pm : link
It was a nice, classy statement. It was brief. So what?
TB gets him for aroud 12mil/yr
rasbutant : 3/22/2018 12:59 pm : link
this is where his value should have been all along, but when teams compete for FA's they get 17mil instead of 12.
The body is still warm.
Beezer : 3/22/2018 1:05 pm : link

They'll have more to say, I'm betting. He was a high-impact guy for several seasons in blue.

Likely just an initial press release to get it out there. This is easily the biggest "move" the Giants have made, as far as "popular personnel" this off-season.

Lots of people own JPP jerseys. Not the be-all, end-all ... but an indicator. Extremely popular player and a world champ.

Wait for it.
Goodbye, good luck, good riddance.
Spider56 : 3/22/2018 1:07 pm : link
In my book, Whatever good JPP did for the team was overshadowed by his BS attitude after the fireworks incident. Great move by DG to offload the contract and the player.
If the Giants give me several million dollars

So what? So...it wasn't flowery, damn it!

Should have gone something like this:

Farewell, JPP, you noble warrior...

I think you are reading too much into it
Rudy5757 : 3/22/2018 1:31 pm : link
He gave a positive statement. When Eli leaves you will see all the flowers you want I am sure. This was a salary dump for a player under performing his contract. I liked JPP a lot but I am happy to see us parting ways with some players not living up to their contract. I am sure OV is paying attention to the off-season now. He may not be long for this team either.
To be honest, I am surprised they don't say
Thats Gold, Jerry : 3/22/2018 1:53 pm : link
the previous GM you had here was a total fuckup and screwed this franchise for a long time such as signing JPP to a very, very bad contract.

This offseason has demonstrated clearly what a lousy GM Reese was.

I'm wondering if it is because these players havn't played for the head coach or defensive coordinator. So you don't hear their sentimentality. Who else would usually be giving quotes? It does seem rather short for one of our stars.
getts seems all business
micky : 3/22/2018 2:18 pm : link
which was/is needed imo.

Just very intrigued how everything in end winds up.
Im telling you

JPP dogged it last year its on film

I know thats not to popular

But DG is getting rid of all the problem children from last year with the exception of Apple so far plus Reese never should have given JPP that contract .... that bonus money JPP got paid thats for sure
