Picking at the top of the draft is about managing risk, and (Solomon) Thomas is the safer pick over Myles Garrett. While Thomas lacks the same kind of athletic upside as Garrett, he poses minimal risk from a competitive character/consistency perspective from all that I have been told.
Thomas ended up having a rather uneventful and quiet 16 game rookie season. Garrett had 7 sacks in 11 games played.
has elite pass rush ability but he’s not a complete player yet as some of the other areas of his position and overall game are lacking still. Browns were careful in using him last year to his strengths.
As the #Giants suddenly have a need at defensive end thanks to the JPP trade, worth noting: They already had a private workout with #NCState DE Bradley Chubb and he visits the facility in a few weeks. They pick No. 2 overall.
Chubb is the best defensive end in the past few years Â
He hasn’t been the mind blowing athlete Clowney and Garrett were/are but he is a better football player than both of them and is still a great athlete IMHO

A bit undersized for DT and perhaps not athletic enough for DE. He got swallowed up by bigger blockers.
I understand some people question Garrett’s heart and commitment, but his athletic profile as a mirror to clowney.
Garrett gets a lot of flack because he’s an intellectual. Dude writes and performs poems for fun...
I would take Chubb every day of the week - including twice on Sunday; however that damn saying goes - over Garrett.
That's easy...
I think they want to pair Garrett up with an even better Chubb and have their DE position set for years.
