What if Josh Allen’s feet can correct his inaccuracies?

Gothamist : 3/22/2018 2:52 pm
Would Allen be that smart, tall, solid, athletic, courageous, scrambling QB we would want after Eli retires?

If it were only his footwork,

I would say yes, but he has other issues to overcome as well. He tends to side-arm it when pressured, which leads to balls sailing on him, he has a tendency to lock on to receivers, and his pocket awareness leaves much to be desired.

He is a plus athlete with a plus-plus arm, and he seems to be good kid and hard worker, but that is a lot to overcome. That is why, IMO, he's a bit of a project.

Phil Simms has Allen at #2

I agree, high risk pick.
How many of those criticisms are coachable or relate to lack of experience?

Good summary, that I agree with. That being said, I would bet he puts on a good display at his Pro Day. Jordan Palmer scripted Darnold's Pro Day and it turned out well, so I expect Allen who is also being trained by Palmer to have an equally well performed Pro Day. He did seem to improve from the Senior to his performance at the Combine, so I expect he'll put on a good show at his Pro Day. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Giants bring him in for a private workout at a later date as well.

Is he going to start throwing the ball with his feet?

They're both coachable AND a result of lack of experience. The problem is making that leap at the NFL level, where the competition is so steep. Things move so much faster, that the tendency is to revert to old habits that you're comfortable with.

I'm certain he will do well at his pro day, but my guess is that these pro days mean a lot more to reporters than they do to team personnel guys. They aren't useless, it's always good to see a guy up close, but the pro day isn't going to supersede game tape. Pro days (and the combine) help confirm things that may not be crystal clear on game tape, like can he make all the throws? In today's college spread sets, it isn't always easy to tell.

So there is a universal agreed drop in the draft or can interviews, Wonderlic scores etc. help a team make a calculated risk? Top QB evaluators?

Can I assume that Pro Days can only address a few areas?

How does a team address previous print media concerns that Josh Rosen has challenges with overthinking or in areas of leadership?

Don't care

I do not want to project/gamble with the number 2 pick. High ceiling but a huge risk. Played against lesser competition and did not dominate combined with low accuracy. Giant No.
