Piggybacking on the cancer sucks thread. March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Colon cancer is the second most deadliest cancer among men and women. However when caught early it's very curable. So guys get your colonoscopies!
My story. I went to the doctors in September of last year. As I'm in my early 50's he sent me for a colonoscopy. I had no symptoms. I went for the colonoscopy. Walked in thinking I was perfectly healthy. Walked out a cancer patient. I had cancer in three places. Two in the colon and one in the rectum. Luckily it was stage 2. After 8 months of treatment, both chemo and radiation my cat scan came back clean this week. It looks like I will beat this shit. I still have to have surgery to make sure it doesn't come back.
So guys please get your colonoscopy. Mine probably saved my life.
Dont mess around with this. Yeah the prep for it sucks but it so well worth it.
I had a precancerous polyp at age 30 so I'm on the every 5 years plan now

Doc says I'll be back on the golf course in July. Lets get together and play.
the prep is worse than the procedure. I really feel like it's intentional too. the syrup you have to drink is not just awful tasting and the texture alone is nauseating, the next 4 hours after are brutal. then the second bottle, why? what could possibly be left in your colon/intestines? I felt like my colon was so clean you could eat off it (though that would be disgusting).
all worth it though if it can catch something early, since as mentioned, early detection is key with colon cancer in particular.
I'm on the every 5 year plan now. By my next one I'm hopeful they improve the process if they haven't already.
You need to get checked , regularly . My grandfather died from the same disease in the early eighties . I was diagnosed on 2-14-11, which is a day I’ll never forget.

I'm lucky that I've had digestive issues and got my first colonoscopy when I was 30. My doctor said he wishes insurance companies would move the age down to 40 or even 30 because they're starting to see things pop up earlier and earlier.

Absolutely man. It's been far too long.

If the prep has gotten better I can't imagine how bad it was. It was awful just 18 months ago.
What did it used to be? An enema forced by industrial strength vacuum?

Best wishes.

a lot better over the last 7 years. Yes I’ve had a quite a few of those tests . They are using air during the procedure as well now instead of gas so you don’t spend recovery day like the campfire scene in Blazing Saddles .

Used to be a gallon of Golytely and semi conscious anesthesia.
