Joe and Evan had a caller compare JPP to strahan and LT. Evan laughed it off saying JPP was more like a Justin Tuck.
He's right. But was JPP even Justin Tuck?
Anyway, imo I rank Osi #1 (playmaking machine) Tuck #2 JPP #3
But it's very very close imo.
Osi by far the best pass Rusher, also the biggest playmaker. Had swag but old school swag.
Tuck was great obviously and sustained it for a few years and was a machine in the SBs , great two way player
JPP , amazing in 2011 ! Never played upto that after that but remained a very good player and flashed dominance at times.
I gotta say Osi and Tuck are ahead of JPP as New York Giants?
What say you?
Tuck
Osi
JPP
Osi was a good pass rusher and that was it. Tuck was an every down player and got hurt too often. But, in terms of impact, he showed up in both our Super Bowl wins and in the playoffs. So Tuck goes on top, followed by Osi and, way down the list, JPP.
3. TUCK
4. JPP
5. VERNON
6. KIWI
2-5 arguable. Osi, Tuck and JPP each had stretches of dominance. Vernon has been consistently great so far - could wind up to be the best since Osi.
We went through decades without a killer set of bookend DE's - to have such riches for some 15 years now... it's been a blessing. Being able to ROTATE a fresh, dominant THIRD DE?
The NASCAR defense?
It's been wonderful. Worrying it's over.
Oddly enough, JPP was probably the most talented...
Osi was a great playmaker, created a lot of sack fumbles, but ran upfield too much and was taken advantage of in the running game.
JPP was better than either of them for 1 season, and only 1 season.
Its close between the 3. But I have to go
Tuck
Osi
JPP
Great, great player. Easily forgotten among brighter stars.
However JPP played the run for us better then Osi although Osi finished sacks better and stripped the QB so many times and even took a few to the house, just game changing plays by Osi. Also owned premier LTs like Walter Jones etc .. JPP had the tree branch arm swatting down passes though that Osi didn't have.
Tuck can def be argued as #1 but all these guys are pretty close. Helps Osi and Tuck that they were 2x SB champs vs JPPs 1 , a great 1 none the less
Osi
JPP
Tuck was the best all-around end, the closest to the kind of player Strahan was. Osi was a tremendous pass rusher. Despite what some people say about him, he wasn't bad against the run, but he was much better at rushing the passer. JPP was marvelous in 2011 but fairly ordinary with flashes of great plays here and there afterwards.
He also completely dominated a great LT, Walter Jones, in the 2005 Seattle game. That was a real eye-opener.
spot on
Quote:
Yeah, he had Stra to play off early, but remember early on? He was a fucking lawnmower over there - that game he got like 6 sacks off that Eagle rookie tackle?

Agreed that it goes Tuck,Osi and JPP. All very close (Jets would kill for any)
Regarding Osi, where would he have played in a 3-4? Does Chubb somewhat remind you of him?
Osi was great getting after the QB, but was a terrible run defender who too often was sucked inside and consequently couldn't seal the edge
Justin Tuck was the reason the 4 Aces package was so effective. Spags could move him inside on passing downs, and he could still get to the QB.

That can take you in circles. Without Osi and Tuck on the outside the 4 aces doesn't work either. The reason it was so effective is because you had 4 legit pass rushers. One guy wasn't the reason.
His best was FAR better.
And he was a better 2 way player than both guys.

Tuck gave us the flexibility to move inside and still be effective. Osi and Strahan weren't doing that.

he was not a way better 2 way player than Tuck. And he wasn't a better pass rusher than Osi. And his best was only seen in limited time periods. He didn't bring it enough as JonC pointed out.
JPP

And Osi and Tuck made it impossible for teams to counter tuck inside because you had two great rushers outside, either one requiring a double-team.
Great, great player. Easily forgotten among brighter stars.
They both played 11 season - Osi had 85 sacks/Tuck 66; Osi had 35 forced fumbles/Tuck20; Osi 5 TDs/Tuck 0; Osi had 18 PDs/Tuck 32; Osi 14 Fumble recoveries/Tuck 6...
Playoff sacks: Osi 5.5/Tuck 5.5
Sorry, but the production signals Osi just made more plays. To say Tuck was "easily" the better player is laughable...
OSI for speed.
JPP at his best had 10x the freaky body control of either of them.
But Tuck will be remembe'red on St Crispin's.
I love Osi, but he was strictly a pass rusher.
Both Tuck and JPP could move up and down the line with rare versatility, inside and edge...and devastating Pass Rushers.
For a brief moment in time, Tuck was the best in my opinion.
Osi
JPP
Strahan better than all of them. :) I miss that guy.
The idea of him not playing hard is BS. He hustled.
JPP- He was like the second coming of Tuck, but fell off even before he blew himself up. Still solid, but not near what he was and not as good as Tuck imo.
Osi- a distant 3rd imo. 85 sacks, a mere 18 TFL. Even as a pass rusher I felt he was inconsistent.

Chew on this. Osi was a better play maker...

All day. All day.
Also, Tucks rookie year chasing down LDT and Osi blocking punts like the waterboy both showed us that rookie promise. For JPP is was a preseason game vs the jets where he jumped off sides but lateraled backward and got into his stance before the whistle was even called. Showed his backflips translated into his stance. Showed such flexibility.
Imo JPPs biggest mistake was bulking up even more in 2012
I went to training camp in Albany that year and talked to Tuck and JPP side by side , Tuck looked like a lean sculpted machine compared to JPP, was much much thinner, made JPP look thick. JPP prob should have stayed lighter, imo he carried the extra weight fine and it allowed him to play extra snaps but he lost a lot of his freakish flexibility imo. An underrated attribute in the NFL trenches .
SB46 - ( New Window )
Oddly Aaron Hernandez in the time gap between Tuck and Osi
Skip to 1:08 for Tuck and Osi at 1:15 SB 46 national anthem - ( New Window )
Tuck had a motor that didn't stop. Was routinely involved in tackles 15-20 yards downfield.
I think Osi has the best career tbh, and Tuck was a close 2nd
Osi a phenomenal pass rusher. #2
then,
JPP who could have been better than both, but he wasn't. JPP should have been a game changer, but never developed.
JPP's 2011 season was more a product of Tuck, Osi, Bernard, Canty, Kiwi and Joseph....
Great, great player. Easily forgotten among brighter stars.
Winston Justice. I’ll never forget it.
