Here's what they say to me and, naturally, you are free to disagree.
1) Lack of talent - not necessarily even referring to my pet peeve, the OL, but also to other areas such as LB and running back which were ignored for years. Gettleman has been aggressive in addressing these shortcomings as well as trying to shore them up for the switch to the new D. It also tells me that there were a lot of guys on this roster who never should have been on this roster. I heard someone say on Twitter about how could EF make the move to RT when his footwork was so bad at LT. Frankly, I do not see EF on this team come September but that is just my opinion. Nevertheless, DG's moves say to me he looked at the roster and was not pleased.
2) Bad Contracts - the JPP contract was a horrible signing, was a very, very bad contract and had to be discarded. That Gettleman got as much as he did is a tribute to him. We've probably got two other bad contracts...Vernon and Jackrabbit...but at least these guys are younger and relatively healthy. They have a chance to make amends. JPP did not...he is not going to get better. There are still some contracts that need to go but we might have to wait because the players are injured...Marshall and Harris. I see both as post June 1 cuts.
Lastly, I think this says DG will pay for production. You don't produce, you won't be around. I know some have said his hard line stance pisses some off. Well, so did TC's, initially, and that worked out. So I have no problem with DG's approach.
Have at it...
wants obj and collins long term
thinks we can be competitive right away.
if it was a total rebuild i dont think we would have given solder huge money and eli would by hook or crook shown the door...
he believes we can win now(as do i)
draft barkley, sured up OL, finally gave us a linebacker worth a damn...
#34 is a huge pick...prob used on OL help.
still think he will sign a FA CB or two
Asset allocation— people want to draft Barkley at #2 after paying Stewart.
Yup.
That and he's pretty good at his job of not letting on in any way what his plan is. Two trades without an inkling of a leak before hand bodes well for how he guards his draft picks.
It sure seems to me no one has any idea who he wants or what he plans on doing.
I like it. Keep everyone guessing and have them think he might take the guy they want. If he doesn't like a QB, that approach will make the #2 even more valuable. As long as he doesn't drop out of the top 5, I'm happy.
Didn't we know that when the team won 2 games and the old GM got fired?

poor chemistry, poor asset allocation, poor drafting

what does Stewart have to do with Barkley? Stewart is a cheap vet brought in for short yardage, mentoring, depth, etc. Bringing him in has almost nothing to do with whether they draft Barkly.
YES!!! I knew I could get this right! *fist pump*
1. Fixing the OL ASAP is priority numero uno.
2. There is a focus on bringing in leaders and specific personalities in order to fix the locker room culture
3. There is no loyalty or sentimentality at play
4. That there's still much to be done
5. That no one should make assumptions or trust beat writer info - because it's very clear that Gettleman is not letting accurate info get beyond closed doors.
Be interesting to see what off seasom time to clear head. Some mentoring New DC, position coach, advice from Meyer - will do to get him back on track.
Might be a better fit in new scheme. It's management & leadership - a lot of what you have to do with employees has to do with their heads, not the physical aspects of the job.
Most concerned about the pissing contest between him and Collins.
More likely this is part of a retool in an attempt to make a last run with Eli.
You need an OL. Period. For Manning and for whoever they draft. Can't put a kid in there with a shit OL. He felt the best way to solidify the OL for next 3 years was build around a vet LT.
They are dumping salary for a gradual rebuild. Nothing they have done says they hope to win next year. Even Stewart. It's a stop gap.
DG is no dummy. he is getting ready to build the next Giants dynasty. Pick a QB. Let him learn for a year and build for him to take over.
The free agent signings so far have shown me he puts more emphasis on depth and role players than Reese did.
Free agency also showed he puts a high value on special teams. If you look at Latimer he was signed as a special teams guy with offensive upside, the DBs signed were special teams guys.
None of these moves give me any indication of what we are going to do at #2 in the draft, and after seeing us lose the players we wanted because everyone knew what we were going to do, I'm happy about not knowing.

The more I think about NYG's situation, the more I hope we trade down. Getting a monster haul of picks, including a 2019 1st, gives us a chance to take one more run with Eli (after an infusion of younger talent), evaluate Webb, and ammo to trade for a QB. The best of both worlds.
He's trying to improve the roster and the locker room culture.
So far, so good, imo.
2 - He's combining his philosophy of roster building with the needs of the schemes of the head coach and defensive coordinator. They're not trying to put square pegs in round holes, especially on defense. They're going out and finding players who fit the scheme.
My bet: He'll trade out from the #2 overall pick (most likely Denver, but could be Buffalo) and pick up a couple more early round picks this year and probably a first next year and a token 3rd or 4th. Just a hunch
