Ryan Clark said TC told him he wasn't a good Safety

RollBlue : 3/22/2018 3:28 pm
on Golic and Wingo this morning - said that motivated him when he played against the Giants.

Also, shows that TC had a big say on personnel when he was here. Didn't think Clark was good enough and he's gone (to Pittsburgh). I wonder how many on here blamed Reese for that?
Well, he was a big hitter
JonC : 3/22/2018 3:28 pm : link
but an undisciplined safety.
And the point of this post is...
That’s Gold, Jerry : 3/22/2018 3:32 pm : link
what exactly? Clark was an okay safety...his name doesn't come to mind when I think of top safeties since 2000.

As JonC says, he could lay big hits but he could also get beat for big plays.

An average safety...nothing special.
He was a good safety
pjcas18 : 3/22/2018 3:34 pm : link
but he suffered from a disease (sickle cell?) that impacted him more in areas like Denver, but I think impacted him overall.

This fucking guy is on a 2 year cycle with this shit
TommytheElephant : 3/22/2018 3:35 pm : link
I feel like he comes out with this “TC told me I wasn’t a good safety” every 2 years

Find a new story Ryan
Ended up carving out a nice career for himself

Was an Undrafted RFA who ended up playing over 10 years in the NFL.

Times.

He's the kind of player who would have been a great 3rd Safety in the Deon Grant role (let's bring that role back! Draft some safety's and let Collins roam!)

get over it, Ryan.
don't get too upset at the OP. Remember how many people here

actually thought that Stevie Brown was a good safety?
Just a FYI

Accorsi was the GM when Clark was with the Giants not Reese.
you guys are just so dam thin skinned
Rory : 3/22/2018 3:49 pm : link
he said it in reference to being motivated to become better.

And Dan Reeves got rid of Ed Mcaffrey so whats the point?

I played spades and ripped shots with Clarke

back in the Spring of 2003. So he's cool with me.
of course he had a large say over cuts to get to 53
mort christenson : 3/22/2018 4:01 pm : link
And if there were players that the GM disagreed w/cutting, I doubt anyone was throwing their weight around over a former undrafted safety in his 2nd or 3rd year.
the point is that

he was not a good safety for us.
Clark tells this story often, usually as a point of reference

He had plenty of flaws with us. But one of the few guys

I recall who absolutely got better playing for another team.

Clark cleaned up plenty of issues while with Pitt/Wash whether that was his own development or coaching.

Put a massive hit on Cruz when we played them yrs ago. Don't think Cruz ever mentally recovered from it.
Did he wear a pink shirt too?

He and Bryan Kehl should start a support group for guys that TC cut.
TC had more GM sway that many of his fans would like to believe
TD : 3/22/2018 7:42 pm : link
Some of te absolutely horrible talent evaluations and FA/draft decisions were on TC.

When you’re that mediocre for that long with a HOF or near-HOF QB in his prime, there’s enough blame to go around between all of those in charge.

No kidding. When was he? Back at LSU...?

The better question is this - when was he ever a good analyst to warrant time on TV? He's unwatchable, says nothing remotely interesting.

One thing about Coughlin - he can evaluate talent. And he was spot on about Clark...
Reese will be lucky to get another job
SomeFan : 3/22/2018 11:06 pm : link
TC has always had teams looking for his services.
It's kind of funny
TrueBlue56 : 3/23/2018 4:11 am : link
That TC was also the one who stressed the importance of building team's in the trenches. When TC first got here that is exactly what he did with accorsi. the additions of mckenzie, ohara and snee. Reese takes over and the offensive line becomes a joke.

TC goes to Jacksonville and what does he do? He goes and gets norwell to bolster his offensive line. Think of the line he built in Jacksonville his first time around, but yeah TC is to blame.

Yeah, I think this is the salient point. He doesn't seem to be saying that TC was a poor judge of talent or that TC was even wrong about him. I think that he's not even disagreeing with TC about the comment. I think it was that Giant's experience that told him that he needed to become a better player...that he needed to *become* a good safety and that TC was the motivating force. Subsequent games were to prove that he indeed had become a good safety.

TC told him what he needed to hear, in order to better himself.

Apparently it worked.

Moving on.
Funny how so many people here do not like
EricJ : 3/23/2018 7:34 am : link
to see TC criticized. I often wondered why we did not keep Clark. While Clark was playing well for Pitt, we had no safeties who could play I believe. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

There are many reason why we fail or excell but in the end it’s still our fate he used TC others use other people or things.
