I think they are just that...rumors. Some beat reporter sees the Giants get rid of JPP, see's that Chubb is a top prospect, and automatically assumes there is a connection there.
I personally don't think Chubb is in consideration for #2, although I like him as a prospect (he is Bosa 2.0 to me).
First off- the Giants have showed no interest in him- no combine meetings or anything. Not the be-all end-all, but they have met with most of the other top prospects.
Second- Chubb is a 4-3 DE. While he is certainly good enough to play edge in a 3-4, his best position is as a base 4-3 DE. It doesn't make sense to draft a guy at #2 if he is not a perfect fit for your scheme. You don't make that large of an investment on a guy and then play him out of his natural position.
Third- The Giants could target the more natural 3-4 Edge guys at pick 34. They have shown interest/had meetings with Arden Key, Harold Landry, and Josh Sweat, all guys who could be picked in that range of the draft.
Excellent post. This move reminds me a bit of the Danny Shelton trade by the Browns. JPP doesn’t fit the new defense, and he’s got a big contract, so move him for whatever you can get. Why would they go out and draft Chubb, another 4-3 end? I think this was a salary dump move and get what you can in terms of picks.

The only picks I'd hate are Nelson or Allen at #2.
Fine with Chubb, Barkley or Darnold/Rosen at #2.
