I remember watching the draft with a friend of mine that year. The Giants selected Derek Brown with the 14th pick and they showed highlights from his days at Notre Dame. And we were excited. Then the Jets took Johnny Mitchell with the 15th pick and we watched the highlights. And we both looked at each other with the same reaction: Mitchell's highlights were far superior to Brown's. Not that it bummed us out, because after all, it was just hightlight footage, but it did make us wonder.
I could see the Giants dropping one spot to three if Qb is not their pick. Jets would do this if they were worried about the Broncos or Bills getting their guy. It wouldn't be too cute to do even if Barkley was the target. Jets are taking a QB. This would give the Giants control still of getting who they want.
We are drafting a QB. That's why we didn't except their offer. Yet people think we are gonna move all the way down to 12 when passing up a great offer for 6.
It would make no sense for the Jets to pay what they did to get to 3 without at least checking if the same price or something close would get them to 1 or 2. Especially given that they know 1 or 2 QBs could be taken with those picks.
As to what it means that the Giants said no, still hard to say. Could be any of the following:
1. They have their heart set on one of their top 2 QBs and don't want to risk losing them.
2. They have their heart set on Saquon and don't want to move out of the 2 spot unless they know he's gone.
3. They think they can do better in a trade down with another team.

Yup, totally agree.
Buffalo could offer Clevland a haul for their #4,making them another potential trade partner. Or the Browns might even want to trade the #4 for #2 so they could get Chubb to pair with Garrett and the Giants would be sitting pretty with getting their guy and extra picks.
I think the longer DG holds out the more other teams get antsy and it makes the Giants pick even more valuable. I'd love for them to wait as long as possible but if the Jets came calling with next year's #1, I'd pull the trigger because if assures QB's go 1-2, and still leaves the Giants in control of who they want.
If DG doesn't want a QB or Cleveland takes him at 1, I'd love to see him trade back one spot at a time to 4 or 5 but no farther. DG could potentially play this draft like a fine Violin.

Exactly and we wait to see what the Browns do. If Darnold is available he is ours, if not drop 1 spot take from the Jets and pick Chubb or Barkley or Nelson
Bears had to give the 49ers the No. 3 overall pick, a third-round pick (67th overall) and a fourth-round pick (111th overall) in the 2017 draft plus a third-round pick in the 2018 draft.
Jets have a 3rd rd, 4th rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th. I think they still have next years 3rd round.
They could give up the same thing. The amount of picks was set last year for this exact situation.
but declined because the Giants are taking a QB and the jets traded with Indy.
How do you know who they're going to take?
It's entirely possible the Giants didn't like the Jets offer or feel they can get a much better one, or just wanted to stay at 2 for Barkley, Chubb or Nelson or at worst stay in the top 5.
Not trading with the Jets doesn't make them taking a QB at 2 a definite. If we've learned anything so far about DG it's he's pretty damn good at keeping his plans to himself and doesn't tip his hand.
Has been the most solid “in the know” guy and he has said numerous times no mention of QB. I hope to hell he is wrong this time. Gettleman staying put and taking Chubb/Barkley is a Browns move. Cowherd said it on his show much better than I could but the answer is at QB to start the needle pointing up. Love Eli but he has been bad.
I think 1992?
Tight end, tight end.

I would make them give us their 1st rounder next year. Say offer it or we are taking Rosen (if Browns take Darnold).

They rejected the offer cuz they’re taking Barkley if Darnold is t there. It’s a two man draft. They aren’t taking sloppy seconds at QB
But I guess I'll leave that nugget of info here.
