If Reese were still GM

CMicks3110 : 3/22/2018 9:52 pm
how do you think this off-season would have played out? What do you think we would do in the top of the draft?
I think David Gettleman's first day of work

would have been very awkward.

Josh Allen, the JPP of quarterbacks would be a lock for #2.
We would have re upped Harris
bradshaw44 : 3/22/2018 10:07 pm : link
JPP no doubt would still be here. And all OL would be the exact same.

I disagree, we all know how patient Reese is with his draft picks. Reese would pass on all the QB's at 2 saying that they had a higher grade on Webb than any of the QB's in the draft. He would take Chubb at 2 despite numerous massive trade offers to move down because we all know Reese doesn't trade down.
Reese also
Jay on the Island : 3/22/2018 10:24 pm : link
wouldn't have traded JPP.
We would be drafting the top back flipper
giantsFC : 3/22/2018 10:24 pm : link
With the first round pick.

Dwayne Harris, Shane Vereen and JPP would all be here w extensions

The coach would be Jen McAgoof, Ben’s Alter ego (a wig )
hed draft

fitzpatrick for sure
Reese would have lost out on Solder
Jay on the Island : 3/22/2018 10:30 pm : link
not because of money but because he told Solder that if he signed here he would be playing RT.
Thank goodness .......

that worthless load of s**t is gone! DG is already a more productive GM that Reese. DG is trying to fix the mountain of mistakes made by Reese.

Gettleman's never traded down either. Just saying. Accorsi only did it once in his Giants tenure. It seems to be an organisational bias more than anything, take the highest graded player on your board (with a nod to need) when you're on the clock without any real consideration of the admittedly overblown concept of value

Worthless load of shit? Speak for yourself.
Hard to say ...
Beer Man : 3/23/2018 7:05 am : link
But I'm sure he would not have dumped JPP after being responsible for his ugly contract
If the Giants stayed at #2, Reese would figure out a way to “reach”
Ivan15 : 3/23/2018 7:36 am : link
for a player.

That may have been his biggest flaw. And Reese could “reach” for a player in Rounds 4-7.
He's not
NYBEN1963 : 3/23/2018 8:14 am : link
Why do you guys feel the need to constantly bash the guy ...it's really petty as hell. They guy spent 23 years with this organization and deserves alot more respect for his contributions.
Reese wouldn't have fired McAdoo
Bramton1 : 3/23/2018 8:26 am : link
Eli would be gone, and the Giants would have resigned Geno Smith as our starting quarterback. Erick Flowers would still be the starting left tackle, and we would have gotten stories about how hard he's been working so far this offseason.
Fickle fuckers you all are.
barens : 3/23/2018 8:48 am : link
Remember when Reese let Petitgout go, and everyone was in such an uproar. Or what about that terrible move trading up for Landon Collins?

Yeah, he made some questionable calls as do all GM's, but 2 Super Bowl rings, short fucking memories.

I think most BBIers would remember those events very differently. As I remember, most on BBI felt the same about Petitgout leaving as they do now about Pugh leaving. IMO, Pugh is a better player, but both had injury issues that kept them off the field, and consequently most felt it was better to let them walk than to overpay them. As for Collins, the majority on BBI was elated that the team traded up to get the best SS in the draft (particularly, when at the time the team had a bunch of spare parts playing the safety position)

Yeah. Everyone hated the Collins trade.
Amazing
T-Bone : 3/23/2018 11:53 am : link
that both of you guys (and you even have the word 'Sarcastic' in your handle!) missed his sarcasm regarding the Collins pick.

And he's absolutely right. Everyone on this site LOVED Reese after he took over for Accorsi because of the moves he was making... just as everyone is doing for Gettleman now.

Like he said... fickle.

Now that I go back and reread, I can see the not so obvious sarcasm
Not about whether people liked it or not at the time,
barens : 3/23/2018 12:19 pm : link
it's more that people here are painting the picture like Reese couldn't get out of his own way which is total bullshit. He was a very good GM, who had a bad run, like most do when you've been with an organization for too long, unless you've got a top tier quarterback.

It's both if you ask me.
i wanted them to keep pugh
msh : 3/23/2018 12:42 pm : link
but i totally understand why DG let him go he never played a full season or wasnt carrying some injury the FA market at OL is expensive as the giants found out with solder he was the best player on a bad OL and was flexible could have been used anywhere along the line if needed they replaced him with a good OG and LT that will free up flowers to move to the right side where i see a fluker type move to RG with probably wheeler or a draft pick starting at RT

pugh wasnt his pick and had no ties to him,on a pure evaluation level DG thinks he can get a more durable guy for a lower price then set about drafting his guys instead and norwell proves he can find better OL than reese did

DG had already decided he was going to resign jones and let richburg walk regardless of how the market was and 49ers overpaid him,if he returns to his rookie form he wouldnt be bad but if he plays like he did last 2 years then they vastly overpaid for him and he will end up cut next offseason

Reese was a hard head that fell in love with certain positions, while devaluing/neglecting other (until it was too late). It was the ones that he neglected that came back to bite him in the ass, and which put this team into a downward spiral.
The only positional group
T-Bone : 3/23/2018 2:41 pm : link
that can be reasonably stated as one that Reese 'neglected' would LB. That's it. He's used high draft picks on every other positional group (well, except QB of course).

RB - Wilson

OL - Pugh, Flowers and Richburg

TE - Evans

WR - OBJ and Shepherd

DL - JPP and numerous DTs in the second

CB - Apple and even Ross

S - Collins and Kenny Phillips

There's a pretty big difference between 'neglect' and just not picking the right players.
If Reese was still GM,
Keith : 3/23/2018 2:47 pm : link
we'd probably make the mistake of going Barkley. He was a sucker for measurables+character.
it was also when he drafted them
msh : 3/23/2018 2:54 pm : link
he reacted to losses too often and he waited too long to replace the OL snee and diehl where on the slide and he didnt draft until after they left in every case he played catchup he also had too many busts robinson, austin, wilson, ross, prince etc and relied on 4 and 5th round players to start far too often he waited till 6th round to draft bisnowaty on a team whos clear gapping need was OL and even then wheeler looked the better play as an UDFA then he did neglect isnt the right word for it maybe but its still the correct sentiment he reached to fill holes to often

waiting till the 6th round to draft an OL on a team whos OL was that bad is neglect, never replacing tuck, osi or pierce was also neglect as is throwing huge FA money after your draft selections bomb

I'm sorry but I can't reply to this because I can't read it. I don't know where one sentence stops and the other begins.
