Chris Canty on Golic & Wingo

Bold Ruler : Mod : 3/23/2018 8:36 am
Was on around 7:35 talking trade of JPP, #2 pick etc... In short, said that he has contacts inside the org. and that the only QB the Giants want is Sam Darnold.

Also said he feels that the Giants will likely trade out of the #2 spot, most likely down, but don't rule out trading up. lol.

Here is a conspiracy theory for you

Giants want Darnold. Giants believe Cleveland likes Darnold but also Allen. Cleveland also wants their guy (whether it be Barkley or Chubb) at 4 and knows Giants are the only thing in the way of their missing out on that guy.

If Giants let it out that they like Darnold or <the player Cleveland covets at 4> Cleveland can ensure this by 1) taking Allen or 2) dealing back from 1 to 2.

Giants are hoping for 1 (Cleveland takes Allen) and are trying to help that one by letting on who they like. But do not rule out Giants at least considering trading up (offering their 2nd round, and the extra 3 from JPP trade will help to ease this) to make certain. I know this is unpopular, but if your QB is there and you have enough conviction in him, a 2nd round is not really that much.

third round picks won't be nearly enough. Cleveland already has a ton of picks, Darnold is the consensus #1 QB, and the Browns have been in "QB hell" for decades. My guess is they wouldn't even listen to any offer that didn't include #2, our second round pick this year, and our first round pick next year.

Disagree. Last year the Bears swapped #1's, plus 2017 #2 & #4 plus 2018 #3 to move from 3 to 2. Perhaps the Giants would have to offer a 2019 #2 and one of the 2018 #3's, but certainly not 2019 #1.
'If you love Darnold or Rosen or anyone...fucking do it'...
Torrag : 3/23/2018 11:09 am : link
Yep. QB is the whole deal and despite the 'Eli is our starter this season' mantra he's near the end of the road.
If the Giants have that much conviction about Darnold, ...
Boy Cord : 3/23/2018 11:15 am : link
... they need to pursue a trade up. No difference from when they moved up for Eli. If the Browns want Darnold, oh well, nothing we can do about it. If they don't, the deal should get done. The Browns will be in a position to get their guy and more picks. They would be fk'n idiots to pass that up. Easy story to tell their fans. We wanted QB X and not Darnold. The Giants assured us they were selecting Darnold. And looks at all of these great picks!

Other teams are willing to trade a lot more to have the opportunity to draft one of a few guys. I'm not saying they have the type of conviction, but if they did they should pull the trigger. Once of my biggest issues with Reese was that he always sat back and waited and selected a guy from whoever the draft handed him. And it has cost them. This is not a shot they expect to get a second chance at any time soon. So if you are that close to a guy you really like, you pull the trigger and don't look back.
If Darnold goes #1, and he is their top guy on Draft Value Board....
SGMen : 3/23/2018 11:34 am : link
....I believe the Giants will try and trade down.

It would be a "risk" not to take QB Rosen as he is polished and could learn under Eli. If the Giants were "out of playoff contention" with say 3 games to go, and you felt Rosen was ready, you let him START the last few games so you know what you have and he's better prepared to handle the STARTING job in 2019.

If the Jets are high on Rosen, they could try and trade with the Giants but my feeling is they don't have much ammunition to trade right now. ???
I really want to know how anyone connected with the Giants would

spill anything about who they like to Schefter, Mortensen, Canty, ....(please take no offense) JonC/Hitdog...etc?

This is way too important for this franchise, and sharing thoughts on prospects with media folks or former players seems like it should be a fireable offense. What's to gain by it...unless it is intentionally misleading.

Darnold, Chubb, Barkley, Rosen have been names floated for weeks now. Why?
CLE Lock for Darnold at #1
MojoEd : 3/23/2018 11:41 am : link
There is plenty of evidence that he is the type of talent to justify the #1 pick. We should not discount the nonfootball factors: Sashi Brown was hammered by everyone for playing it too cute with the QB position; the owner sat with Darnolds parents at his pro day; CLE fans and the franchise need a perception/attitude boost in the worst way; if they wait to #4 for QB no one will buy it if they say they got their #1. Fully expect them to either stay at #4 or swap with DEN and take the best non-QB not named Barkley. Darnold to NYG aint happening.
This makes a ton of sense
JoeyBigBlue : 3/23/2018 11:45 am : link
They probably know that Darnold is going 1, and are looking at Barkley, Nelson, or Chubb as possible guys at No. 2.
I think they're going to trade up
moespree : 3/23/2018 11:53 am : link
But maybe they'll trade down too. I got contacts you know.
If that's reality(possible, but doubtful)
Keith : 3/23/2018 11:58 am : link
Im fine with Darnold or trade back. As long as we don't take Barkley at 2. QB that we love or trade back.
One more thing
Marty866b : 3/23/2018 12:06 pm : link
Don't discount that Hue Jackson used to be an asst. coach at USC and still has many contacts at the school. Probably has more info on Darnold then most.
Sorry, not buying anything Raanan is selling
ZogZerg : 3/23/2018 12:10 pm : link
He guessed at 10 players for our 1st round pick last year and didn't get any of them right.

He has no idea what the scouting folks like.

Chris is onto something. Been saying for months Darnold is the only QB theyd take unless Gettleman disregards his scouts (which I guess is possible).

He clearly no understanding how this process works..

Darnold or Barkley.

I'm not a professional scout but I've watched as much "tape" as I can on barkley.

Simply typing in Saquon Barkley Vs in youtube brings up a lot of videos showing every carry/touch in an individual game. I see a running back who despite having the size and measurable strength to do it go down easy when met at the line of scrimmage. Just not seeing the push the pile plays.

Now, perhaps because of his superior talent this was something he didnt have to do but I see a bigger Reggie Bush when watching these videos. Am I wrong?

No, you are not wrong.
