Giant fans have been blessed with shitty draft position for the better part of the last 3 decades.
I'm actually happy with the general success of the first round in the modern era. Some lemons, like Cedric Jones, but then you get the incredible Beckham pick, the JPP pick... they've done OK.

I loved me some Rodney Hampton/Jarod Bunch era, but Their track record for RB's is atrocious. WR was hit and miss too. DB's have always finished below expectations.
Not a great record. Busting on a first round pick so often often sets the team back as a whole right?

are you sure you aren't high? Evidence Base Practice is key Â
I'll start at 1990 and give my non-homer view.
Jarod Bunch: injury bust
Derek Brown: super bust
Thomas Lewis: bust
Ty Wheatley: bust
Cedric Jones: bust
Ike Hillard: complimentary piece, = 1st round bust
Shaun Williams: injury bust
Ron Dayne: bust
William Joseph: bust
Mathias Kiwinuka: complimentary piece = 1st round bust
Aaron Ross: complimentary piece = 1st round bust
Kenny Phillips: injury bust
Hakeem Nicks: injury bust
Prince Amukamura: maybe a complimentary piece but mostly bust & injury bust
David Wilson bust & injury bust for sure
Erek Flowers: maybe complimentary piece but mostly bust
Eli Apple: bust (TBA maybe he finds jesus this year but he looked lost even before the drama)
You actually called our 1st round draft rate as depressing, despite the fact the giants have hit on more first rounders than most teams. Not by my metrics, but by most analysts.
I only know of grades for players since 2000 (not 1990), but the Giants were ranked 7th for the 1st rounders. They actually were graded 29th for rounds 3-7 butr that wasn't your point.
That's depressing.
By the way, what fucking facts have you presented??
type of subjective facts you are presenting. Grades? really. the most subjective form of opinion in the modern sports world. what is this a video game?

Someone is butt hurting.
I guess that is what happens when you put your head up your ass.
Can't really count them as a bust unless there was injury history we ignored. I am not FMIC biggest fan but he is spot on here. We actually have done well in first rounds.
But I don’t think many (normal) people would call a person with an injury a bust. I mean I wouldn’t. I consider a bust to be someone who didn’t perform either per their draft pick or even as an nfl player. It, that’s based on performance. If a guy gets injured and his career derailed, I wouldn’t say that’s a bust. It’s unfortunate, yeah but bust isn’t right.
And, if you’re using injury as a debate point to prove that the team cannot draft well, then I think that’s pretty asinine.
...although I am wondering how Justin Pugh (who I always liked) escaped being labeled a "complimentary piece = 1st round injury bust" (such a great phrase)
Why does Ike get an upgraded "complimentary piece = 1st round injury bust" designation but Nicks and Phillips only get tagged as "injury busts"? On behalf of two of our Super Bowl heroes can't you re-consider? Can't we demand a re-count?
Good thing you didn't reach back to the 70's. Phil Simms definitely had a "complimentary piece = 1st round injury bust" coming his way.
What would we say about Troy Archer? "Dead = bust"?
Past performance is not indicative of future results. Â

I got lazy. Pugh is still playing for now. I think i just labeled Hillard as complimentary. didn't mean to put injury. He played well, but not a game changer like Amani Toomer...who was drafted lower.
Phil Simms would easily classify to me that....as for injuries he managed to come back after the injuries and have a career...then get hurt again...and then back. Longevity I guess is key for that.
If Nicks, for example, returned a year or two later and played some good seasons he would not be in this discussion IMO.
So a cutoff rule maybe 5 years of top league-level performance as a 1st round pick?
I would say Nicks still sits on the limit of that. Kenny Phillips and others do not.
Can we please adopt the term, “complementary piece”? Â
This was a perception of the the first round draft pick list and how startling the revelation is every time I look at it as to how many didn't pan out. I can't see any Giants fan arguing that many 1st rounders didn't perform like the ideal first rounder is hoped for.
Not sure why Gunta in Charlotte decided to lube himself up so bad with insults over it.
Outside of a handful of teams I’d say our first round picks have been at worst average. When you land a franchise QB and probably the most talented WR since Randy Moss, you can’t say that it’s depressing.
Nicks and Wilson getting injured was depressing. Many of the rest of the picks were starters and contributed to one of our two Super Bowls.
I would think mental illness and substance abuse should definitely be in this discussion
And on cue the ignorant fuckstick had it go right over his head!

this is their 3rd Top 10 pick in 4 years.
2001 - Will Allen (22nd pick)
2002 - Jeremy Shockey(14th)
2003 - William Joseph(25th)
2004 - Rivers/Eli(4th)
2005 - Corey Webster(43rd) - 2nd rounder

2014 - Beckham (12th)
2015 - Flowers (9th)
2016 - Apple (10th)
2017 - Engram (23rd)
Probably can't call anyone on that list a complete bust - especially with Flowers and Apple still having time to turn things around.
All Pro's in Shockey, Eli, JPP and Beckham
Solid starters in Nicks, Phillips, Ross, and Allen.
Calling it "depressing" is one of the more moronic things to say, and on BBI, especially in the offseason - that's fucking hard.

I could care less about other teams. I just know the giants have picked some head scratching doozies when there were plenty of other options.

no i agree about that. trust me when i know about injuries and it's not anyone's fault but luck and genetics.
but it's still a bust for a 1st round pick. they didn't reach the level of franchise worth that that pick is valued at.
you can then also argue that many guys weren't busts because they dealt with mental illness and substance abuse issues.
